« The Women
Roll Models
"Acceptable for children." ??? Joan Crawford's last lines sum it up perfectly. "Women like you (these) aren't talked about in public, outside of a kennel that is". And after seeing this movie for the first time, 68 years after it's making, I'm very surprised it's taken this long for someone like Brittany Spears to become a roll model. But now I understand how and why she became one.

role model: a person whose behavior in a particular role is imitated by others. brittany spears a role model? i don't think so...joan crawford was in her time, but "mommy dearest" tainted that, or maybe not the "b"(female dog)image is alive and well in our culture. greed and materialism continue to create a fascination with the likes of paris hilton. i prefer the character played by norma shearer in "the women". watch it again (and again) because the theme is still with us in 2007...not sure what to expect of the current remake (starring meg ryan, eva mendes and annette bening) ,starting filming now and out in 2008.

I wasn't passing judgement on Joan. I was commenting on the movie, useing Joans' line to sum it up. You use the words greed and materialism. What about conniving, manipulative, back stabbing, gossipy, completely untrustworthy, etc? The behavior of most of the women in this movie demonstrates why many women say they don't have female friends. Lord, you can't even trust your "best friend" in this movie. I will admit to laughing. A Lot! But if this is how women are/can be. Joans' line is correct. Only use the word around a kennel....
