Law & Order: SVU
Returns: Tuesday, April 15, at 10 pm/Et (NBC)
Number of new episodes: 5
Where we left off: Oliva Bensonıs (Mariska Hargitay) biological clock is ticking and she just canıt escape babies. If helping to deliver Elliot Stablerıs (Christopher Meloni) latest kid wasnıt enough, the last pre-strike episode found the detectives investigating missing frozen embryos. That led proud papa Stabler to tell his partner sheıd make a great mom and Olivia to finally admit her desire for a child and how her attempt to adopt failed. It seems the obsessive single cop was deemed unsuitable for rug rat duty.
What's next: "Olivia goes undercover in a state prison posing as a junkie," shares Mariska Hargitay. "And it turns out a guard is raping women prisoners." Even though Fin and Stabler are also undercover as a guard and a lawyer, Benson isn't safe. "She gets knocked around a lot, and it's really scary," Hargitay says. "I realized with this episode just how obsessive Olivia is, and how far she will go for justice."

First, I want to say Diane you will be missed. Thanks for the great run. Now. What an intense way to bring a show back, this episode will do nothing but boost the ratings for SVU. After nine seasons who would of thought, the show could come up with such a shocking episode. I must admit I had the DVR set to record the episode and was ready to call it a night. I thought for sure this was going to be similar to the Law & Order CI episode, which was shocking in its self but I was not up for a repeat. Before the writers strike it really looked like the show was on a downhill side, it is amazing how one episode could change an opinion. The Writing Team for SVU really knows how to raise the bar for a Drama series. After watching the show the writers have me right where they want their viewers, excited about the return and wanting more. This episode had to be one of the most horrific things I have ever seen on TV. To be able to make it so real a ton of credit must be given to Mariska Hargitay her performance was outstanding. I know NBC is the master at hype in the promo department, but the clips they airing for the next couple of weeks have me excited about the return. I cant wait see Stabler get his buttons pushed again this time by both the perp and his partner. Does anyone know who many episodes are left before the season finale?

Agreed, Ann--last night's ep was one of the best in a long time! I wound up rewatching the last few minutes several times because Mariska Hargitay's performance was so stellar--and the closing scene with her and ME Warner was awesome as well (I wish they'd give Tamarie Tunie more screen time).
I have a feeling, and hope, this isn't the last we hear of Benson's "ordeal in the basement." She may not have been raped, but I believe she was at least "violated" a bit more than just being beaten up (i.e., I think she was forced into more than simply seeing the tell-tale mole that wound up being the clincher)...and I have a feeling there'll be ramifications which should give Mariska some great dramatic moments forthcoming! At least I hope the writers will give more screen-time to this storyline (after being greatly disappointed by the ep about Stabler's temporary blindness--that had so much potential, but I think they kind of blew it with that one). Since it seems they're going to give Benson a boyfriend here suddenly, perhaps that's all just part of a set-up to allow the emotional ramifications of her ordeal to show up as difficulties in their relationship?! I don't know, but I agree with you--last night's ep has me greatly looking forward to the remaining episodes!
(By the way, according to the original article, it appears there are only 4 more new episodes for this season.)

Whenever I find myself wondering why Mariska Hargitay wins Emmy's when the rest of this supremely talented ensemble doesn't, the writers showcase her in an episode like this one and I smack my forhead and say, "Oh, yeah! THAT'S why! She is magnificent!"
I didn't tape it, but thank goodness for reruns, because I can't WAIT to see this one again after I've got my new glasses so I can actually make out peoples' faces and expressions. I too think that she was forced to do more than just SEE the big, bad mole, but time will tell. Very clever way of helping the child to ID the son-of-a-B****!! He was really good too: I HATED him and was thrilled when they took him down - both times!
I missed that Diane Neal is leaving: can anyone either give me the deets or refer me to when and where I can read about it? I didn't think I would EVER like her when she started because she was just so obnoxious and I just loved Alex SO MUCH, but I have really grown to like and to respect her and they will have a hard time replacing her. She really fit well, eventually, once she realized that Sex Crimes weren't the same as the things she'd been prosecuting before.
But I STILL WANT MORE Munch and Finn, sorry folks! It was great to see Finn actually doing something after a long, long time, but I want my Munch back too!

Just when you think you know Mariska Hargiaty's play book she goes and hits it out of the park!! She was powerful and so believable it was an EMMY WINNER if there ever was one. It's one thing to see guest stars be victims but to watch Benson's fear was so intense and so well done! Heres to SVU and Hargitay for doing a fantastic job!! Go get that EMMY Girl!!!
