September 21, 2006: Awkward Hole in My Pajamas

There was a comment left on last week's blog that it should be a requirement to be married to review this show. Well hey, I'm engaged so that will have to count for now. I can certainly relate to a diamond ring in the middle of a cantaloupe, though. I mean, I shoved it deep inside a watermelon when I proposed and that worked out well. OK, I'm just kidding about that ? it was actually a pineapple.

Seriously though, most of you seem to think this show is crap. For some reason I think it's getting funnier. Maybe I'm demented (and maybe so are the four of you who said you liked it last week, too), but I think the five of us are right. This is really a quality comedy if you like lowbrow put-downs for 30 minutes.

How about Eddie throwing the engagement ring at Joy? When she complains about the ring hitting her in the boob he compares it to "pitching softball to a slow kid." Ha. The way he proposed the first time around was better, though ? straight out of Top Gun when he asked her to "ride into the danger zone with me." Brilliant. We saw a new one, too: He actually asked the Woodcocks for advice! What a novel thing to do for Eddie. So he takes their advice and lights candles and tries bringing the sexy back, but the only thing that really turns Joy on is the fact that he fixed the toilet. Now that's love. There was one line that I'm going to have to learn to use on occasion in my own house. When I buy something expensive I'm going to have to quote Eddie, "It wasn't cheap, so feel free to take off my pants." That's of course provided I have pants on.

I have to agree with you, David. I find myself really enjoying this show. Sure, it may not be a high-class intellectual comedy like Arrested Development (which I also enjoyed), but it is funny in its own way. Sometimes low brow put-downs can be fun, too. Keep up the great posts!

i like this show. granted, it's not the funniest thing on tv, but it's still better than most crap they have on. anyway, i still find it kind of creepy to have a couple eddie and joy- i'm joy and my father's ed...kinda gets in the way for me...other than that, it's still good.

I cannot believe that a crappy show like 'Til Death gets written about and covered by blogs and commentary when a much better show comes on right after it and you hear nothing about it.

Happy hour is just plain funny. I've laughed more in the last three episodes then I have at a new sitcom in quite a while. I've already stopped watching 'Til Death and am only watching Happy Hour. Ain't that a kick in the head?

This show really is funny. I like the simplicity to the comedy. Timing is everything, and they cast seems to have it down. I can't say I'm a loyal devotee because I channel surf, but it is a funny show. I've said this before, but it's about time a sitcom with some life to is on the air!

Again this week I empathize with this show. The first scene about the lotion is directly a scene out of my house. My husband is constantly complaining about my "lotiony fingerprints." But I just can't quit my cream. I think the 'Til Death/Happy Hour combination is a nice change from all the dramas I usually watch. Happy Hour is a little more edgy and sharply written and I just love Beth Lacke (Amanda). But 'Til Death tells a lot about a long marriage - the comfort to be who you are, stability and deep, enduring love.

Does anyone know if Happy Hour was cancelled? It is no longer on the schedule and it appears as Til Death will show two episodes. This is ridiculous if true. How can a show be cancelled after two episodes?

I am a little worried. TV Guide doesnt show any new episodes after the first four, and it seems to go away after Oct. 1st. Has it been cancelled already? I'm really hoping not, it seemed that the show was just taking shape. I'm a big fan of the show, I have seen all of the first three, and was hoping for more. What happened?

It's not cancelled...October is the Baseball playoffs so it will be preempted for at least three weeks probably. AND I'm sorry to say - but this blog was my final one for 'Til Death. If you wish to continue discussing 'Til Death someone can start their own personal blog about it.

Thanks to those who continued to write and enjoy the show.

This show is definitely one of my favorites of the new season. I laughed so much when I watched the episode I DVR'd last week. I keep wanting to know more of the before story, do they have grown children? Having been married only 11 yrs I guess I'm not all the way there to bitterness, but it's funny still the same.
