November 8, 2006: Don't Trust the Alarm Company!
Wow, The Nine really knows how to throw a curveball. Who are those men in the van outside Malcolm’s house? Presumably they bugged the house, but why? I could understand Nick’s house being bugged, or even Franny’s, but Malcolm’s? Were these guys hired by the bank — maybe because of Malcolm’s attempt to blackmail them into offering the security guard’s widow more money? And on the subject of the security guard, I was surprised to see him sit up during the flashback. It appeared he only had a bad cut on his head, so how did it progress that he ended up dead? I guess we will have to wait for the answer to that question, along with the ever-present question of what happened between Jeremy and Lizzie.
And what is going on with Lizzie and Lucas? I felt some sympathy for Lucas when Lizzie shut him out during her first visit in the hospital. And I was shocked when we saw that Lizzie had sat up with Lucas all night talking. I almost like the two of them together. Is that sick? And did anyone else notice the love song playing in the background when Lizzie first sat down? And finally, why is Lucas the only person who knows what happened between Lizzie and Jeremy?
How perfect was it that Egan innocently scheduled a poker game at a gambling addict’s (Nick’s) house? The potential for trouble was so great; I was a bit surprised something more dramatic didn’t happen during the game. Although, the look of concentration on Nick’s face while he was challenging Egan was staggering. Tim Daly did an excellent job of making us feel the awkward intensity of watching an addict at work. Throughout the game, he would glance at Kathryn. But as soon as he and Egan were in their face-off, he couldn’t take his eyes away from the cards. I think my favorite part of the episode came about as an extension of the card game. Kathryn’s therapy sessions were a terrific way to learn more about her inner thoughts. It was a no-brainer that she has feelings for Nick, but I admired how she was able to connect her feelings while watching Nick’s fanatic betting to the reality that whatever they shared inside the bank might not be able to survive in the outside world. And apparently while Lucas was telling Lizzie a similar truth — the spiel about not being yourself when having a gun pointed at you — Jeremy and Franny were attempting to prove it all wrong. The whole notion of what happened inside the bank and how it affects the relationships the hostages now share is an interesting concept, and I hope it continues to be explored.
An excellent and very satisfying episode. The next episode not only looks good, but it also appears we may finally have answers to some of the more compelling questions.

There is no episode next week; it comes back the week after since next week is the 2-hour premiere of "Day Break." Anth

Two great episodes in a row. I just hope the ratings stabilize. The show is much stronger when the flashbacks are integrated into the main storyline (geez, I feel like I'm talking about Lost). And the underlying conspiracies (the possible Eva connection, bugging Malcolm's house) certainly add to the show.
The whole Lucas/Lizzie thing is twisted and I'm getting a little tired of the loving glances she keeps throwing at him. At least we know her glances started almost immediately after the hostage began. But I hope her commitment to him comes from more than just taking her to the restroom and keeping her pregnancy from Randall.
Egan continues to be my favorite character. I'm fascinated by his attempts to keep everyone connected. They've become his only family and he's desperate to keep them in his life. I love the little awkward moments that he continues to have with almost everyone.
I'm bored with Kathryn and continue hope that she'll eat a cookie and gain some weight. Her elongated face is bothering me.

Hating to see Nick regress, I was hoping that he was setting Egan up to win the big pot — you know, to help with his finances/finding a new place, maybe. But nope.
I all so curious to see where the Malcolm's bugged house thing is going!

I am loving this show more and more. I really want to know what happened between Lizzie and Jeremy.
I also have a question about something that happened a couple of weeks ago. When they showed a bank flashback, didn't Frannie say something about how she should send away seom customer trying to get in because her sister, Eva, had only worked there three days or she was new or something? If that's true, then how could she have had that flirtation with Nick and why would she move around plane tickets for a guy that she saw in teh bank just a couple of times? If anyone can tell me if I have my facts wrong, I would appreciate it! Thanks. And sorry if this posts twice. I always have problems with posting.

Again, a great epi. I love this show, next to Ugly Betty it's one of my favorites this season. Where can I find info on the poor ratings?

Great episode!
Nick's behavior during the poker game was so appalling, I am so happy that Kathryn feels she can move on. She should stay far away from a relationship with Nick! I have liked him, but that look in his eyes during the game was scary! From the previews, it looks like we may finally find out about Lizzie & Jeremy in the next episode. But it creeps me out how lovey-dovey Lucas & Lizzie looked this week. I am actually warming up to Lucas for some reason, but he's a bank robber! What he said about not being yourself when a gun is pointed at you is not what you'd think you'd hear from a bank robber. I thought it was strange that Lizzie would tell Lucas she was pregnant, just out of the blue like that. It was still early on.
Someone had posted a few weeks back that Nick was responsible for getting out Kathryn's Mom instead of the security guard, but we saw that Nick first suggested the security guard and Randall said no right away. So it wasn't Nick's fault.
Clrk03, I think Eva was working there for a few months and Frannie had been there a few years.
Creepy that Malcolm's house is now bugged! What is up with that?

In my opinion this was the best episode yet! I loved getting to see more about Kathryn while she tried to figure out her feelings for both Nick and Ed! I really started to like Ed last night-that proposal (even though she left in the middle) was so romantic. Loved the conclusion to that with them being as Ed said "in his underwear"; there was something perfect about that. I'm dying to know what happened between Jeremy and Lizzie that broke up a two year relationship. She is getting really friendly with Lucas. I'm all confused on why Malcolm's house is being bugged! Can't wait for that explanation. Wish we didn't have to wait for 2 weeks for the next new episode!

Glad we saw more of what happened in the bank last night. I was getting a little bored of the slow pace of revealing things. Maybe now I'll give this show another chance.
Did anyone else notice that Kathryn's hair was several inches longer last night than it was in last week's episode? Wish my hair grew that fast!

I love this show! It is getting better every week. I really hope ABC gives it every chance like it gave Invasion last season.
I like the Lizze/Lucas storyline, and I am really curious what happened between them and Jeremy. I also like the Nick/Katherine saga. That will be interesting as it unfolds too! Plus, we are able to see some real conspiracy now that the bank manager's house has been bugged.

I think that Malcolm's house is being bugged because his daughter went to visit Lucas. I think that they are trying to find out if there was an inside assist to the robbery.
Great episode.

I was very cautious watching this show because I feared a quick cancellation. I mean come on, it has a compelling narrative structure, great cast that keeps growing on me more each week and it is different from anything else on. Those are all sure fire ways to get cancelled nowadays.
I hope this show survives because it would be a shame to see something this good be lost. Especially when a show that is so conceited in its structure and its narrative, "Studio 60" (I mean come on, they are "actors" and "writers" of a sketch comedy show yet what they say and do is presented to us as having a pristine purpose and the characters created are to be viewed as "better than us" or at the absolute least, "smarter than us") gets rewarded with a back end pick up.
Please ABC at least give this show a full run this year. This cast is "Battlestar Galactica" ensemble good and it would really be a shame to see bad ratings curb it.

Hey, Kathleen, I'm with you about the Lucas-Lizzie hook up - not sick because I saw it, too. I think that would be okay, actually, though Jeremy may have a problem with a felon being involved with his kid.
Matt - any theories on why folks are tuning out halfway through the show? That's so wierd, unless it's just past bedtime for some ...
This is a really compelling show. Glad it's still going. And especially now that they're showing more of what happened in the bank.
