October 5, 2006: The Ghost of Billy

You know, there really may be something to this whole karma thing. It’s almost too delicious to see J.P. and Ozzy knocked down a peg. Ozzy, mastermind of the Billy ouster, has done his best to keep himself in the game ever since the merge. He has been running around in the challenges like nobody's business, diving, swimming, doing whatever it takes to keep his group from going to tribal council. Back at camp he's hauling in fish left and right and making sure everyone knows it. Don't worry, Poseidon, they noticed.

J.P., on the other hand, cluelessly set himself up for the fall. It's never a smart move in Survivor to let the tribe see you proudly doing nothing (wasn't that Billy's crime?). But to proudly do nothing and command the others from your perch? Uh-uh. Emperor J.P. surely wore no clothes. I'm so proud of the ladies (and Brad) for their sneak attack.

With J.P. voted out, the women of Raro have wrested the power from their big, strong men, but Parvati may soon have her membership card rescinded. Parvati, when the ladies say, "Let's work together," you don't respond with, "Uh, well, let me think about it." You say, "Yes," even if you have a secret alliance with the boys. Or, in this case, a boy. Frankly, I did not expect Nate to actually fall for Parvati's amateurish and off-putting flirting. Shows what I know. Nor did I expect him to turn on Stephannie so quickly. I am disappointed in Nate for that. Where did all that "Hiki hood love" go? And Stephannie, what were you thinking trying to light the fire? Listen to me. That is not your strength. Next time, don't practice your fire making during a fire-making immunity challenge. That's a no-no.

Speaking of, I was horrified watching Cao Boi knock that booby's nest out of the tree. OK, I exaggerate, but still, it was a bad move. I've been on the fence with Jonathan these past four weeks, but his concern for the baby booby scored some points with me. And it warmed my heart to see that Cao Boi regretted his actions. As to the logistics of the whole incident, do the trees on the Cook Islands have built-in steps? I have never seen people scamper up trees the way Cao Boi and Ozzy do.

Overall, Week 4 continued in this season's vein of predictable outcomes. Next week, let's hope they shake things up a bit.

PS. Am I the only one who heard the Pirates of the Caribbean theme music playing during the show?

Is anyone else having trouble getting to the comment sections for the Watercooler? Not sure why they even had to change that name...

It keeps taking me to an ad for Battlestar Galactica or it just freezes TRYING to open the ad. I really still hate this new website! I hated the blog format originally but within a week I decided it wasn't too bad. But this time...gah!

But I realize this is not the venue to complain about it...so, on we continue...

I'm glad I'm not the only one hearing the Pirates' music. The year the first PotC movie came out the Survivor opening music was very, very similar to PotC's theme (which I love).

And now it seems they have brought it back. Parts of it sound identical but then it changes--probably just enough to not be considered plagiarism. Maybe CBS has rights to the music or realized how popular PotC was and created similar music to build on that popularity?

About the voting--It's been interesting seeing more people be blindsided but I just wish we the viewers weren't in on it before hand. This probably sounds better written down than in action, but it might add more suspense if they had the voting earlier in the show then showed us how and why they voted that way. At least then the outcome would be an absolute mystery.

Annnnd apparently I just stole the theme of Justice's show.

I'm having the same problems with the site. It keeps wanting to open an ad.

I loved J.P.'s reaction to being ousted. Has he never seen the show before?

Love the blog title this week Rhoda. That was funny. It truly is karma biting them back. This season so far hasn't wowed me. It just seems like everything is a bit too easy for the survivors. I like seeing them suffer a little out there. J.P. failed Survivor 101. You just can't strut around like a leader and think that isn't going to bite you back. He really got smoked in the vote. It wasn't just 1 guy who voted against him, it was 2 guys. I guess they convinced the other guy off camera to vote against J.P.

The baby bird thing could have been disastrous for Cao Boi. He saved himself with his regrets.

I am very glad that the "Come on in guys" line was back for Jeff. It was sorely missed last week.

I have been having trouble also trying to leave posts,it's driving me crazy.anyways i was thrilled to see the girls come together and vote off jp.i was very annoyed at him telling everyone what to do and how to do it.how many survivors have there been?maybe he's been under a rock somewhere, not to know that would send him packing.

Hopefully, this will post as I am also having trouble since the switch.

I loved that J.P. got voted off. It seems to happen every season that there is an arrogant jack___ that thinks he's safe and gets voted out and doesn't see it coming. Did anyone else notice the surprise look on one of the guy's face on his tribe (can't remember the guy's name) when he got voted off? I think it was a wake up call for that survivor also. I just hope this doesn't back fire for the girls since they will need the guys for their strength for at least a few more weeks.

I was surprised at Cao Boi going after the Boobies nest. What was he thinking? If there had been eggs in there they would have broken when they hit the ground. I appreciated that they showed Jonathon upset and Cao Boi showing remorse though.

It was Nate who had the shocked look on his face when JP got voted off. He's so busy falling for Pavarti's pitiful flirting attempts, that he didn't see that one coming. I've never been one for using my feminine wiles on men, but if it's that easy, maybe I can get out of a speeding ticket or something.

Oh, the poor Boobies!

Have to agree with Speedy1383 - this season has not wowed at all; as a matter of fact, it is getting a little stale. Perhaps 2 nights a week so that we could see a little more interaction. Also, the casting seems way off.....seems they are only casting morons or pretty people - may work on BB, but not here.

They really do seem to have an easier time this go around, with the abundance of fish, etc....Remember when a bag of rice was a sorley sought after prize? On that note, anyone notice that the last few survivors, no one has really gotten super skinny as they have in the past, are they secretly being given food by the crew??

Lets have a shake up - How about "survivor: Antarctica"

I agree with those of you who said you weren't wowed this season. After the Boobie thing, where I covered my EYES and EARS....I would have stopped watching if they didn't put the baby back. That made me really mad that they would do that to mama and her baby...oh well. Parvati is SO annoying...is her name supposed to be similar to "poverty" because that is what it sounds like. I think she is a disgrace to women....I'll keep watching but I would prefer if they were starving too :)

I also have had alot of problems accessing the TV Commentary site. I liked the old website a whole lot better. I'm not posting as much because it's too difficult to get into it sometimes. It gives me a blank page or directs me to an ad.

JP set himself up and he fell. Remember the old saying about digging a hole for someone else, you may fall in it, too.

Nate had better use his big head when dealing with "poverty" or he'll be gone soon.

If this tribe loses the next immunity challenge, I predict Stephanie may be going. The ladies would still outnumber the men and they need to keep the remaining men for strenght reasons.

The other tribe may have the weaker men strenght-wise, but Ozzy is a great swimmer, Candice and Jonathan are very smart and Cao Boi is resourceful.

Regarding the Boobie issue. I was led to believe from my childhood that if a human came in any contact with a newborn bird, the mother would toss it out of the nest (due to the human smell). I wonder how baby Boobie made out.

I also have to agree with the others. Thus far this season is just so-so. There's far too much food readily available for the players. Bring back the early years Survivor themes.

Also, when they repeated the water challenge last week from two seasons ago was pretty lame. Guess the writers, etc. are running out of original ideas.

I have had lots of problems since the switch. The screen freezes a LOT and goes places other than where I am trying to go. I don't understand people fixing things that aren't broken! I hope they get the kinks worked out soon or I am just going to give up on tvguide.com. It's too frustrating!

About "Survivor", I was also happy that J.P. got voted off. It never fails that the ones who really think they are safe are the ones to go. That's what happens when you get cocky. Unlike some of my fellow posters, I have enjoyed the game so far. My favorites are Ozzy (I have forgiven him for Billy) and Cao Boi (he cracks me up!)
