« Survivor: Cook Islands
November 30, 2006: King Rat
This show is so good I am almost moved to write poetry, and yet there are no words to express how much I'm enjoying Survivor: Cook Islands. Alas, I will attempt to recap the happenings at the Aitutonga tribe.
In the aftermath of Nate's departure, Parvati was outspoken about her disappointment in Jonathan. She was so upset with him that she could vomit on his face. Now, she's billed as a boxer. Would a right cross not suffice? Parvati did make me laugh — when Jonathan flat-out told her that "Yul does have the idol," and she still did not believe him. Hilarious. Perhaps, Nate should have left his glasses behind. Like I should talk. For weeks now I've watched the rat footage and mused as to why the show always cut to Jonathan afterward. Perhaps Burnett is trying to tell us something? Um, yeah. If you come away with anything from this episode, it's that everyone thinks Jonathan is a rat. He may very well be, but I'm thinking this rat's going to come out on top — at the end of Day 30, Probst was snuffing out Candice's torch and not Jonathan's.
It was close. After that auction — where Jonathan ate, drank and made merry in a most obnoxious manner — things were looking bad for the man who bought almost all of the food as well as forced bidding prices up on items he did not want. The Survivor auction is always interesting. People blindly vie for food rewards with their $500 purses in hopes of getting a meal from the mainland. To my recollection, this was the first time a bath was put on the block, making me wonder how pleasant things really are at the camp.
Overall, the auction was strange. Out of nowhere, Becky gets all determined to keep Candice from winning the mysterious "power" item that Jeff was selling. Immediately, Yul and Adam stake their women and drive the bids up. Becky won, gaining Candice's cash and the power to send someone immediately to Exile Island. Like we didn't see Candice's fourth visit coming. It's almost getting sad seeing her go. Almost.
Before Candice exited, Yul got all cocky and pulled out his idol for all to see (and Parvati to authenticate). There is no place for that in this game. Now I'm all worried that Yul's going to screw up and get played. Follow that up with his new passion for wooing potential jury members. Yul may be assuming too much in this game where fortunes keep changing. Just look at how Adam won immunity, and the Aitu four were all out of the running by the end of the first round. With Jonathan's record, Aitu could have been at risk. The tribal councils this season have truly been the cherry atop my sundae. Coming off of a tension-filled dinner where the hard workers shunned the cool kids and Candice and Jonathan exchanged many a word, tribal council was heated. Nate enjoyed watching the fireworks. I surmise from his gesticulating that it was hard for him to merely observe all of the calling on the carpet. In the end, there was no group hug. But Adam and Candice shared what Nate might describe as a "dirty, stanky, whack" goodbye kiss. And like Parvati, it almost made me want to vomit.

Now this was the best episode of the season. Very entertaining. I loved all the bickering. I loved seeing Parvati taking a bath. I did feel a little sorry for Candice. She mutiny out of her affection for Adam. Jonathan switched sides for who knows what reasons. But the venom has always been directed toward Candice. Odd. I can't believe how hated Jonathan is. The guy is a lot more hated than Rich ever got.
I do think it was the right move for the dominant team to keep Jonathan. You can't just cut the guy loose after he just helped out your team the previous week.
Yul does think too much in the game. He should just keep it as simple as possible and he will be fine.
Wonderful tribal council. Jonathan just got buried. Even the people who have his back aren't all that fond of him. Nate was having a good time on the jury. I have a feeling Nate wants Parvati to get eliminated soon. I have read a lot of reports that there is quite a bit of sex that happens at the loser hotel with ousted contestants. Nate is definitely thinking about that.
Great episode. I am eagerly looking forward to next week. Maybe Yul will break out his Marlon Brando impersonation. We can only hope.

Yes great show.
Can't stomach Jonathon and didn't care if Candice went.
BUT, that pompous ass Jeff did NOT need to say what he did to Candice. She's already been voted out, she's been to Exile Island 4 times, she's leaving her new boyfriend, and Jeff has the gall to tell her it's a nice kiss, but if Adam really loved her he would have given her the immunity necklace. Can anyone say "Kick a dog when it's down" ?? I don't like Candice, but I thought that was very uncalled for.
I think Jeff has outlived the host role.

Remember the good old days when the survivor auction items included one-half a snickers bar, a single slice of pizza, 3 doritos, a can of mountain dew, a peanut butter sandwich, etc....

Four great shows in a row... this season started slow, but now it has everything... good guys, bad guys, obnoxious rats, lovers, hard-workers, lazy-arses, betrayal... love it.
I didn't see anything wrong with Jeff's comment regarding the Candice-Adam relationship. In fact, I thought it was a pretty witty comment and I chuckled when he said it.
I think Yul wanted to make it to the end being Mr. Niceguy, but with all the caca now flying around it will be increasingly difficult for him to keep his spotless image. He started taking heat tonight and it will only get worse as the remaining seven players smell the money.

i also loved this episode. i think yul made a big mistake by telling everybody that he has the idol. he should of let pavaritti, and adam believed that he didnt have. this is going to bite him back in the butt.
i also didnt care if candice left. she was also getting on my nerves. but the person i want gone next week is pavaritti. im really starting to hate her. did anybody hear her ask becky why she wanted that one thing she was bidding on during the auction?? what business of hers why becky wanted it. plus what was the deal with pavaritti and nate winking at each other??

Yul didn't make a mistake telling everyone he had the idol. He'd already told Jonathan, and he's not so stupid as to think that Jonathan hadn't already told the rest of Raru. If anything, it may actually give us some interesting developments... for instance, say the next obvious target is Jonathan, and someone thinks up a plot (without Yul) to cast 2 votes for Jonathan (need 2 to trump Jonathan's vote), and everyone else votes for Yul. Yul is forced to use the idol, Jonathan goes in his place, mission accomplished, and the idol is gone. They better act soon, though... they're down to 7, and it won't work with less than six.

I too thought it was a great episode. I've been a fan of Jonathan's, but I have to admit that his behavior at the reward challenge was arrogant (he did NOT intentionally spill the beer, however; that was just clumsiness). In fairness, he didn't know that he was bidding on food.
I don't quite understand why everyone is so down on Candice. As the mother of three daughters, I tend to favor the young girls--particularly Candice & Becky. My all-time favorite Survivors are Elisabeth & Amber. I can't stand Parvati any more. She's just a lazy flirtatious witch. The fish-gutting scene was funny!!!
I did think Jeff's comment was uncalled for. Candice has suffered more than anyone else--4 trips to Exile Island. And then he implies that Adam doesn't care for her all that much--what a jerk! While I don't think they'll end up married like Rob & Amber or even together like Ethan & Jenna, they might have had something. Now I'm sure what they both have is doubts.
I just had a brilliant idea (at least I think it's brilliant). For the next Survivor, why not have a previous winner or near-winner as an observer & commentator on the show, giving his or her thoughts on how the players are doing, their mistakes & coups, etc. I think Rob Mariano would be perfect, as he was on two Survivors and came in second on All-Stars. Colby Donaldson also springs to mind, as does Elisabeth Hasselbeck (who has a lot of broadcasting experience but may be just too sweet to critize the castaways). I'd be very interested to hear what Rob or Colby has to say about Jonathan, for instance. I'd love to hear their thoughts about Yul revealing he has the idol. Think about it, Jeff.

I understand why everyone was upset with jonathan last night for being so cocky, but I'm not so sure what he's done wrong,he had to switch sides last week,or he was gone,I mean I don't want him to win,but that's what you have to do out there. And can I just say Parvati needs to get off her high horse, isn't she the same person who said she would just flirt her way through the game.So glad Candice is gone, hopefully Parvati will be next.

I can tell you why I don't like Candace - she's lazy, and she betrayed her tribemates. She knew, with all the talking her & Jonathan did before the switch, that he probably would switch if she did. And she did it for the worst possible reason - to hook up with a guy. A skeevy guy who has also flirted shamelessly with Parvati. And I thought Jeff's comment was absolutely appropriate & hysterically funny. After that tonsil hockey session (which, can I just say, YUCK!) and her hypocritical stance with Jonathan, I wanted to smack her myself. Don't get on a high horse when you've already been in the muck yourself.
And please, for all that is Holy, do NOT wish another round of Romber on us! I think I would stop watching forever if they brought those two insipid, limelight hounds back.

Although I don't particularly care for Jonathan, he is one of the few that are actually playing the game. Adam, Candace and Parvati are not playing the game AT ALL. They lay around flirting, kissing, etc. and then get pissed when no one "comes to get them" when the food is ready. Gimme a break! No wonder Parvati and Adam got so far in the immunity challenge -- they were well rested! It was wise choice to vote out Candace this round. If Adam & Parvati were playing the game based on strategy and not emotions, they would have voted out Jonathan earlier when they had the chance (instead of Jenny - I never quite understood why she all of a sudden was on the block).
Thank goodness that we don't have to see Adam/Candace sucking on each other anymore. Gross and stupid.
PS -- I liked Jeff's comment to Candace. That is what he is supposed to do! Also, my other "laugh-out-loud" moment was when Parvati claimed that she is more mature than Jonathan. Whatever.

The whole episode I kept screaming at the tv "these people are gonna decide the million bucks, so treating them like crap isn't gonna help y'all!!!" Yul is doing himself no favors in the game by pissing off Candice, Adam, and Parvati. Even if they got rid of Jonathon they would still have numbers, so throw the gang a bone. As for Jonathan, he has just passed Richard Hatch as my most annoying survivor ever, inching closer to Johnny Fairplay. I can't wait to find the final 2 and listen to them get ripped apart by the jury!!

Yeah, I almost felt sorry for Candice too, when she was sent packing to Exile again. I will give her this: Candice's mutiny is what made this season interesting.
Okay, I can see how Jonathan could get on people's nerves. He was arrogant when he got back to camp after the auction. But hey, he was good at bidding on stuff. He was the only one who spent all of his money, and I loved that he bid Parvati up so high. I agree with the previous poster who pointed out that Yul was NOT stupid to reveal the idol. The idol has already worked once for him and his tribemates and besides, almost everyone already knew he had it. Jonathan had already planted the seed in Adam's mind. Did you see HIS reactions when Jonathan said Yul had the idol?
I'm beginning to really like Becky. Yul has gotten lots of cred for his smarts, but who is back there working the numbers with him? I liked seeing them do what seemed like a well-practiced hand game in figuring out what their strategy was. I also like Sundra. These women are not coasters, nor are they flying under the radar. They are part of a well-oiled team.
And by the way, totally justified that Aitu didn't share their food with the threesome. I'd be sick of 'sharing' my work with people who didn't contribute too.

Oh, and Imzadi, you can see what previous players think of this season. At cbs.com, people like Bruce and Terry, among others, have blogs where they write in after every episode. Such a good idea, they already thought of it!

chica112684,
I wouldn't necessarily be too worried about Candace, Parvati, and Adam's vote just yet. There are 3 other people on the jury who got voted out because of those 3, so I doubt highly they'd be interested in siding with them against any former Aitu member who may make it to final 2.
