November 23, 2006: "If I Flip Again..."

I hate to say I told you so…but Nate perhaps you should have worn your glasses to tribal because you should have seen your ouster coming. Though it is clear from your parting words – Jonathan you can kiss my ass. You're a dirty, stanky, whack, fruitcake who sold me out, who sold out our tribe when we brought you in. You trading bastard. So kiss my ass Jonathan – that you were somewhat surprised and upset. On the other hand I don't know if anything could have saved Nate. His strategizing has been off for the whole season and he never saw how out there he was so it really was just a matter of time.

Tonight's show was nowhere near as exciting as last week's but it does rate up there as one of the season's best episodes. For the most part it was all about strategizing and deciding on the best move. They teased us a lot about the personal immunity idol. I expected that the idol would finally be used this week but, alas, Yul managed to stage a coup with only the mere threat of a weapon of mass destruction. Sound familiar?

Kudos to Yul – not Yuehl, nor Yule or whatever other combination of letters these people can come up with to spell his name – for managing to break the Raro contingency and get Jonathan back on his side! As Sundra said, the Aitu Four are strong. Raro continues to underestimate them and as such, their numbers also continue to dwindle.

So yeah, Aitu won immunity. Again. This was a tough one and I was on edge watching it, hoping and praying for anyone from Aitu to win. That Candice showed some strength on the pole but she's no Ozzy. He deservedly won the first individual immunity because he is amazing. I don't even think he got a blister. Oh, yes, I forgot to mention there was a merge and the new tribe is called Aitutonga. I wonder though if Aitu's sequence off the pole gave us a look into their future should they all make final four. First down was Sundra, followed by Becky, Yul and Ozzy. I'm just musing here so let's be clear that I have no idea who is going to win Survivor. No idea. I do not know. Okay?

Jonathan, who I have been on the fence about all season, has put himself into quite the position. I don’t think I've ever seen any Survivor player betray everyone on the island as blatantly as he has and still live to tell the story. I kind of like it. He may not be outwitting or outplaying the others but he is certainly outlasting them. He's got to know that he will be the first man out at Aitu but then again he was next to go at Raro so, what the hell, why not make a play? Jonathan could really stab Yul in the back now if he tells Raro who has the idol though I wonder if they'll take anything he says to heart. However, with the canoodling going on between Adam and Candice, I could see Parvati waffling since she's clearly the next person on the chopping block.

No bones about it, Aitutonga is a tribe in name only. The lines are clearly drawn and Jonathan is the swing vote that doesn't really matter any more. I can't wait for next week. Though given that it was Thanksgiving, I could have waited a week for this episode. Again, I’m just saying. Anyway, I hope you all had a great holiday and in case you were wondering, yes that was me you saw at the store at five a.m. this morning!

How stupid is the old Raro tribe? Jonathon tried the "What if...?" scenario with them about the idol and not one person took him seriously. So even if Jonathon hadn't swithed sides, Nate would have been gone.

I don't necessarily agree that Parvati is the next one on the chopping block. If the old Aitu tribe has a choice, I think Adam or Candace will go next. Candace for her betrayal or Adam to break that two person alliance up.

BTW, ARE YOU NUTS??? Shopping at 5 am on the day after Thanksgiving is insane in my book. I won't even think about getting my car out of the garage and driving in the shopping mess of after Thanksgiving sales traffic until at least Sunday.

How stupid was Jonathan? Why not vote for Yul and force the idol out? Nate would still have been gone and Jonathan would still have 4 votes next time.

Yul's most telling comment was that Jonathan is the best to take to the final 2 because of all the enemies he has made. May be it is just good editing but don't be surprised to see Jonathan carried there by someone. I would be happy with the 2nd place prize given how much he has messed up so far.

I thought that Yul was a bit naive, but he may be the best judge of character on the show. He really played Jonathan.

Nate may have been one of the stupidest players in Survivor history. He never figured out anything. He was always out of the loop. Even if Jonathan didn't betray the tribe, Nate would have been out. His parting words were amusing though. Jenny's bird last week and now Nate this week. It will be a fun final tribal council.

The previous poster makes a great point. Why didn't Jonathan just stay with his old tribe and vote for Yul? Nate would have then been voted out and the idol would have been eliminated. But then it would be 4-4 next week. Aitu is definitely stronger than Raro in their commitment to each other. So I guess it would have been easy to get one of the other to Aitu. Maybe then Jonathan made the right move. It's a tough call.

Ozzy has turned into one of the best Survivor players I've seen. The guy will be tough in any swimming or climbing or endurance contests. If I had a million dollars, I would have bet all of that on Ozzy winning that challenge. And he did. He will be tough.

Nate cracks me up. From his constant posturing of how it was "his house" to his backstabbing of multiple players, he was just asking to get voted off. Even Adam was starting to see through him.

While I knew it was smart to keep Jon around, I never figured he'd regain so much power. He and Yul are definitely strategizing the most out of anyone. And Jon's thinking out loud moments are quickly becoming my favorite part of the show. He's clearly aware of his standing within the tribe and is trying to find every opportunity to extend his stay.

Raro is dead-team walking. They could win the next 2 immunity challenges and still be picked off. It might even make sense for Aitu to throw the challenges so that they could reserve their energy for future challenges.

Considering how many times Candice has gone to Exile Island, I'm surprised she had the stamina to survive on the pole for so long. Aitu would be smart to vote her out next and break up the barbie couple.

Hmmm, maybe it was the editing that makes me think this, but I got the idea that Jonathan flipped partially because of strategy (if he hadn't flipped, then the remaining Aitu members would have voted for him, not Nate), but also because he was tired of his alliance with the youngsters who never helped out around camp, nor were very good at strategizing. (I mean, c'mon, like the previous poster said, didn't Candice and Adam ever consider the reason they never found the idol was because Yul slipped it quietly out from under them?)

Jonathan has never really bothered me as a player - he's funny and rational. If I were him, I would align myself with the guy that had the immunity idol and has proven himself to be honest and trustworthy. Maybe Jonathan sensed what we have the privilege of seeing - that Candice never really supported Jonathan (she bad mouthed him to Raro), that Adam is stuck on Candice (and Parvati?), and that Parvati...well, she hasn't been getting much face time, so I don't really know what she's thinking. He's always been a kind of outsider with that tribe, given his age and lack of frat-sorority status.

I think next week promises to be interesting. I can't remember any season where an alliance strategically kept food from other people. Food has always come into play when a person is trying to prove they're helpful and can provide for others, never as a means of blocking people out, right? Methinks Adam, Candice, and Parvati are going to have to learn how to fish...

Jonathan is playing Richard Hatch; provide food and backstab.

Has anyone notice the last few survivor seasons, no one is getting real skinny and emaciated? Are the players getting better at catching food? Are the camps being selected based on abundance of food? Just seems kind of odd that some of these people have so much meat still on them after this long....

If they were all so sure that Yul didn't have the idol, who did they think had it? They are stupid for not hearing Jonathan out and deserve what they get. (Though Jonathan should have voted Yul and made him play the idol.)

Ozzy and Yul for final two -- for once it would be nice to see two people who deserve to go to the final two to actually do it. Ozzy is the brawn and Yul, the brains. Sadly, if John is in the final three both of them would choose him. He's pissed off the whole camp -- anyone could beat him.

Wow... Where are all the posts?? I guess being on Thanksgiving no one watched??

Made perfect sense to me why Jonathan flipped (again). He knows that by aligning himself with the person with the idol and a team that is as commited as Aitu that he can go a lot further. Aitu won't dump him until they pick off Raro at the earliest, if not bring him to the final 2. They should have it locked up now...

Aitu is a lot stronger of a team than Raro for sure!

Aitu through Yul, made it clear that if Jonathan didn't make the jump they would vote him out. Aitu voted for Nate only because Jonathan asked them to as a mia culpa.

I've said it from day one, I LOVE Jonathan! I'm so hoping he makes it to the final 2. I can't wait to see the drama next week when Adam, Candace and Parvati throw hissy fits. I really dislike the 3 of them ( up until 2 weeks ago I liked Adam, Candace has ruined him for me) I have to say, I'm really enjoying this season, every week they have kicked off the players I want gone, it's great!

Excellent points, Skeptic1129! What happened to the "good ol' days" when everyone was skeletal by day 10? Jonathan is channeling Richard Hatch...everyone seems to be giving him the power. I wouldn't be surprised if he flips back to the Raro group again though...remember he said he wanted to see the "4 caucasians" in the end.

I see Parvati in the final 4...she is getting so little airtime that I think she will be around 'til the end.

Bye Bye SexyNate :_| See you on the jury...
