General Hospital Goodies: Night Shift, Star Memoir and More!

I've got lots of fresh General Hospital stuff to serve up, kids. So if you can't get enough of the residents of Port Charles, this is your lucky day:

• Read my new Soaps Q&A with Kimberly McCullough (Dr. Robin Scorpio) about her primetime turn on General Hospital: Night Shift, which premieres Thursday, July 12 at 11 pm/ET on SOAPnet. McCullough also dishes TV mum Finola Hughes' return to GH as superspy Anna Devane on Friday, July 13.

• Need a good summer beach read? A juicy memoir by the late, beloved Anna Lee — who played GH's Lila Quartermaine for 25 years — just came out. Get all the details in my Daniel's Dish blog.

• Our own TV Guide Network will air InFANity: General Hospital on Monday, July 23 at 9 pm/ET. Should be a treat for suds fans, so don't miss it!

This is my favorite show, she's one of my favorite characters and I love those promo pictures that keep showing up on this site (they're less annoying than Amy Applebee). Thanx 4 the Q&A, I enjoyed it.

I just watched Night Shift from my TiVo. Apparently it aired sometime early in the am on SoapNet. Wow is it awful. There seems to be no rhyme or reason for the actions of the characters and no connection to the history or traditions of GH. As a huge GH fan, it was more of a let down than the last two years of Port Charles.

Will you be doing daily updates for Nightshift? As far as I know we are not getting it in Canada, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

No, unfortunately you are right, acc, Canada is losing out here (although if cappittsboro is right, maybe we're lucky). ;)

So do you think this can succeed where Port Charles failed? I actually liked Port Charles before it went all Passions with vampires etc.

I like the idea of focusing on the hospital and giving more airtime to some of the characters who get short shrift during the regular GH episodes. There are a couple of characters though who are already getting a lot of airtime on the regualr GH that I wish were not part of this but I guess you have to take the good with the bad.

I also watched Night Shift very early this morning. For those of you that are interested, it was on from 5am to 6 am. It was TERRIBLE. It has very little to do with what is going on at General Hospital - like Jason bring Spinelli in for shooting himself in the foot - Hello, Jason is in JAIL!! Maxie and Coop are caught having sex in the supply closet by Max - bet that doesn't show up on the show - oh well, maybe it will get better

I LOVED the first episode of GH: Night Shift! Love the fast pace of the story compared to the drawn out dialouge on GH which repeats daily. Of course being a huge Robin and Patrick fan doesn't hurt, but I enjoyed every character on the show. Oh wait, besides the new nurses. They all got under my skin a bit and all for different reasons. It's nice to watch great actors from GH who don't get airtime during the daytime becuase of the heavy mob storylines. Looking forward to the next episode and great acting by Kimberly McCullough and Jason Thompson...they deserve this and are wonderful!

Almost forgot, what about the whole patient with the last name "Barrett" angle...who's thinking Brenda?!?! I am, but only if it's Vanessa Marcil at some point, not a recast!

The whole point of GH: Night Shift--if you read any of the promo material--is that it doesn't follow current GH storylines but does use some of the present cast and a bunch of newbies. I thought this was very confusing (especially the Jason thing) but I guess SoapNet wanted to try original programming without completely starting from scratch. Supposedly the Night Shift stories will be compelte within their 13 episodes although I'd read that the HIV-positive preganant woman plot could come back to GH in October because Robin decides she really wants to have a baby and is convinced it's possible because of her recent experience--and Patrick doesn't want to be a daddy. I wasn't impressed either but at least somebody is trying something different.

I saw NS this morning. I enjoyed it! There are some cheesy parts but I like the idea of it. The fast pace was good and the way they tied it up in the end was nice.

I thought Kimberly stole the show. She was fantastic! I'm glad she is able to show her lead actress ability.

I have issue with the outside shots. I feel those could be a little better. It reads cheesy right now. I do think they could go into the patients/stories more but hopefully that will happen in further episodes.

BTW, thanks for the Kimberly article. I've been waiting for one with her. She really shined on NS and I'm happy she is getting all of this. She deserves it.

Thanks for the great Kimberly Mccullough article.

I just watched GH Nightshift. It is very fast paced and the stories are separate from GH but it was good. Kimberly Mccullough gives a phenomenal performance. She's a great leading lady. I loved Robin's scenes with Jason and Stacy, the hiv+pregnant patient. Maxie and Cooper were hilarious. Billy Dee was underused but mysterious. The only downside was the horrible representative of nurses. They came across as shallow, gossipy and all about landing doctors. Also don't like the Barrett patient. The only way Brenda should return is played by Vanessa Marcil.

Glad y'all enjoyed my Kimberly Q&A!

To answer someone's question: No, we will not be doing daily recaps because Night Shift is a weekly series. ;)

Starting today, it's on Thursday nights for 13 weeks.

KMC was brilliant and sexy on the Nightshift. Also have to add that I was so wrong about Steve Burton on the Nightshift. When I first heard he was going to be on it, I thought he take over like Jason does on GH but I was so wrong. He didn't take over and he really worked well into the show. I loved his scenes with Robin and the old lady and actually look forward to him interacting with Robin&Patrick and others on NS.

I don't have cable, so I guess the two percent of us who don't (and those whose systems don't get SoapNet) are out of luck too.

I don't care, as long as GH does not export any of its story lines or plot points to NS.

I felt bad for those persons who watched GH, but not AMC, and because of that may have missed out on the Anna/Robin reunion several years back. Maybe some might say it wasn't a big deal, as it was all on broadcast television, but still.
