Ex-Y&R Star Shemar Moore Faces Paris Hilton's Judge in DUI Case
Shemar Moore in Criminal Minds by Monty Brinton/CBS
Former Y&R star Shemar Moore — who was arrested June 1 on suspicion of DUI — is officially in trouble.
TMZ.com tattles that L.A. City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo has charged Moore with two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence. If he's convicted, the Criminal Minds castmember faces up to six months in jail and a $1000 fine. Moore's next court hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, June 26.
UPDATE: Whoa! Moore's attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, is fast. He just entered a no-contest plea to the charge of Exhibition of Speed, per TMZ. The two DUI charges against Moore have been dismissed.
Since he copped a plea, Moore ends up better off than jailbird Paris Hilton. He was sentenced to probation, community service and fined about $1400.
FYI, Judge Michael T. Sauer — the same badass judge who has presided over Paris' case — was the one who decided Moore's fate.
As we head into another weekend, suds fans, I want to remind you not to be like Shemar, Paris, Nicole, Lindsay, Lane Garrison, et. al. If you're out boozin', don't go cruisin' without a designated driver!

I would have guessed that Shemar had a bit more going for him than Paris. My question is how do you get two counts of driving while under the influence at the same time?

Celebrities are stupid these days, plain and simple. I just wish that they all have some common sense. Do they honestly think that nothing is going to happen when they get into their car knowing well enough they can injure somebody. This doesn't sit well with me at all. Shemar should learn the same thing that Lil Ms. Princess is learning than basically getting slapped on the wrist. This looks a little sexist since Hilton and Moore had the same judge.

I don't think it was sexist at all. Most of Paris's problems came from repeated driving with a suspended license and her attitute toward the whole process. Being late etc. Moore dealt with the issue, didn't try playing the diva, and as long as he doesn't do it again should be fine. SHE would have been the same except for the whole stupid way she handled it.

Yeah you're right. What was I thinking? They just need to get it together before they all end up facing the same situation that Lane Garrison is facing.

Exactly LuvGems!
Folks, let's recap: Paris not only got a DUI, but she then violated the terms of her probation twice after that.
The police pulled her over both times for driving a car when her driving privileges had been suspended by the judge.
Then she tried to play dumb and act like she didn't know she wasn't allowed to drive during that time period. Please. Girlfriend needed to go to jail. She was practically begging the court system to crack the whip on her.
The judge's ruling in Shemar Moore's case seems reasonable to me, under the circumstances. We can only hope he's learned his lesson and will be more responsible in future.

Ranger it could be that California has the same rule as Minnesota does when it comes to charging two dui's. In Minnesota if you register over a certain point (used to be .10), they could charge you with an additional dui for registering over .10. Generally they do dismiss one when you go to court. I have never heard of them convicting someone on two dui's for the same incident.

It's a good thing neither one of them is in New York because they would face stiffer penalties. Sitting on Governor Spitzer's desk, waiting for his signature, is "Katie's Law" [named for Katie Flynn who was killed 2 years ago by drunk driver Martin Hedigen ... he got Murder One] which gives New York State the distinction of having the toughest drunk driving laws in the nation. Check it out via Google and cheer along with me. Let's hope other states follow our lead and get the drunks and law-breakers [no matter who they are] off the road.
It's so simple and unfortunately people don't get it ... IF YOU DRIVE DO NOT DRINK; IF YOU DRINK DO NOT DRIVE!!

I think the general tone of this thread (so far) is right. There's no question Shemar did a boneheaded thing. He would probably agree. Paris, on the other hand, has a history of driving under the influence of...whatever...(alcohol...drugs...self-importance?). Shemar doesn't have a history of doing stupid things (that I'm aware of).
I hope I don't have to eat my words, but it seems to me this is a wake-up call for him, and he won't EVER be this stupid again. I don't think he should be unreasonably penalized JUST because his DUI comes in close proximity to Paris Hilton's.
Don't underestimate the value of a wake-up call. I'm saying that to both the folks who want the hammer brought down on Moore...and to Moore himself. Most of us won't be so forgiving NEXT time!!! Especially if someone is killed.
Truly.

I have one quick question: is every legal issue over now, or does Shemar have to return to court on Tuesday still?
I agree with what everyone has been saying about how this differs from Paris Hilton. She did way more bad things than Shemar has. And I'm going to guess that this is all he has done recently because most news sites would just love to report it if he's been a bad boy. All in all, I just hope Shemar has learned his lesson and doesn't do it again.

Oh and remember when Paris was sentence to jail, photographers took pictures of her...you guessed it...DRIVING. She should have served her full time.
Shemar on the other hand was different because he admitted to what he did. I just hope and pray that he will not do this again.
You can still go out and drink but please do not drive. I hope both of them get a chauffeur...or at least Shemar. We don't want that man in any jail.

They're offering this due to all the e-mails I've gotten from folks who really, really want signed copies of the book, even if they can't get to one of my book-signing events.
By the way, I'm not the type of author who just carelessly scrawls an illegible autograph inside a book jacket. Not only do I give good cursive handwriting, I do pretty doodles! (I'm a bit of a frustrated visual artist.)
