Prison Break fans PLEASE respond
why do Michael and Lincoln have different last names? I must know-

I believe that Linc was born during the marriage and got his dad's last name. Michael was born either at the end of the marriage, or after the dad HAD to leave to protect his family's lives (since he was in "The Company"). Michael, I believe, got the mom's maiden name. I think this was done so when Michael got sent to prison at Fox River it didn't occur to them that his brother was there, on death row. Another coincidence that doesn't really make sence if you think too much about it. If you are new to PB you missed sooooo much!!! Every episode is an edge of you seat episode.

Lincoln has his fathers last name (Alan Burrows) and Michael has his mothers maiden name...I am not sure why...I think they were married at the time Link was born but eventually got a divorce by the time Mike came along. I hope this answers ur question.

Ok,what I read a while ago was that Linc and Michael's parents were married when they were both born.But when Michael was born,their parents were heading for divorce because "The Company"was driving a wedge between them.So that's why Michael has his mom's maiden name.

i think i remember that once michael got th insurance money and planned on going to college he changed his last name, so he would not be reminded of Lincoln and his dad...i am pretty sure it had to do with a new begining or whatever...at least i am pretty sure that is what happened...

I agree with the explanation that Michael's last name is his mother's maiden name while Linc's is his father's. It wouldn't really make sense in real life, but it was obviously necessary in order for the brothers' relationship to be kept secret at the beginning of the series. Works for me!

Why are Michael's and Lincoln's last names different?
When the Lincoln was little and before Michael had even been born, their father left them. Lincoln kept his last name (Burrows), while Michael kept his mother's maiden name, "Scofield".

Its really simple!
In season 1, we all remember that Kellerman and Danny Hale were on a mission to assassinate Mike and Linc. During that mission, they were briefed on the background of both the brothers and it was revealed, like many others have said earlier, that Michael took up his mother's maiden name because their mom told them that their dad was associated with some druggies and that's why he walked out on the family (when in fact he was involved with "The Company"). So when the mum died and they got the insurance money (which infact was not any insurance money, but money which Linc had borrowed to finance Mike's education because he felt that Mike had a better chance than himself of succeding in life), he wanted a new start and didn't want the surname of a "druggie" and so he took up his mum's maiden name.

First their dad split on them and then their mom died when they were young. They were placed in foster care. Michael decided to take his mother's maiden name (because their dad bailed on them). That's why his last name is Scofield. Linc kept their father's last name - Burrows (from Aldo Burrows).
