April 2, 2007: Sona

What kind of hell on earth did Michael just walk into? Why are the next 20 feet going to be the most dangerous? How come Mahone didn’t have to do that walk? How many times did Bellick get, um, loved by that big dude? Why did Sara leave the police station without waiting for Lincoln? What happened to Sucre? Are Kim and Kellerman really dead?

I have to be honest — and the above paragraph proves this — I’m still not sure what to say about this episode. When the hour was up, my first instinct was a large amount of confusion followed by slight disappointment. I even went onto Fox’s PB message boards to get an idea of what other fans thought — which I usually never do, but I just really didn’t know how to react to what I’d just seen. Some of them loved the episode and called it the best of this season; others swore off watching Prison Break’s third year. So I’m really curious as to how you all feel, especially since some of you even predicted a few of the parts to the cliff-hanger.

Don’t get me wrong, there were some pretty fantastic moments tonight, but I just thought overall as a season finale it was lacking something that I can’t quite pinpoint. Maybe I was expecting more answers, but with so many questions raised it definitely got me hooked into watching next season. Because I still have no freakin’ clue what Sona is. Yes, it’s a prison in Panama — a very dirty prison in Panama. But why did Pad Man want to capture Michael just to have him break out? A couple of episodes ago the Company people didn’t even know Michael and Lincoln’s plan was to end up in Panama. Out of all the countries in the world, it was the same one with this prison. Why did Pad Man tell Kim (well, he wrote it on a pad of paper) that only one was needed? And does he run some sort of human experiment facility? Is he going to use Michael for scientific testing?

OK, I’ll try to ease up on the questions and move on to more important things, like the moment Sara and Michael fans have been waiting for since the train kiss. Actually there were two moments tonight: The first was hearing Chaco tell Michael, “She’s very pretty,” and then the shot of Sara standing there on the boat. Anyone notice a little bit of Sarah Wayne Callies' cute baby bump? And then, of course, when they told each other “I love you” and had a very emotional kiss, before Michael held her at gunpoint and confessed to her crime to the police. On a sidenote, much of this episode with the foreign prisons totally reminded me of Brokedown Palace.

The shootout with Kim and his agents, Mahone, and Lincoln and Michael made for some heaving heart-beating, not knowing who was at the receiving end of each bullet fired. But the moment that really put a smile on my face was hearing the reporter announce that Lincoln had been exonerated and then seeing his reaction to Sara’s news. “I need a drink.” Well put, Lincoln.

Now about Kellerman: I want to say it’s safe to assume his “Nazi firing squad” reference and then “took you long enough” meant that he had the whole thing set up to be killed rather than face trial and prison. But we never saw his body or anyone else’s in that van, for that matter. Maybe this is the writers' way of letting Paul Adelstein know that if the Grey’s spin-off doesn’t happen he can still come back to PB. Or maybe he really is dead. Kim has to be dead, right? He was shot in the chest and probably sank to the bottom of the water (cheers all around) with the backpack filled with $5 million. So, dare we say R.I.P. to him?

A few last thoughts: it’s actually quite funny that T-Bag is stuck in jail after the Company guy broke their deal; I loved when Mahone called the police and told them, “a well dressed Asian man has just been shot by two Americans”; but even more, I loved the shot of Michael and Mahone staring at each other in the rain outside Sona. Chills. And to the writers: I love PB, and I love Wentworth and Dominic, so please keep this show as wonderful as it’s been the last two years.

Finally, I wanted to say it’s been an absolute blast writing about this show and sharing it with all of you, and it was so fun checking in every Tuesday morning to see what you all had to say. It sounds like I’m signing a yearbook here, but really I just want to say thank you!

I have to say that I was not feeling this episode. The season was great until the finale. I will watch next season b/c I know what the show can do and it can be great, but the finale was just a big let down in my opinion.

Well, the season is over... With a ton of questions, like Maya mentioned above... Well I was totally wrong with what SONA stood for... But heck, how were we to know... So it is a prison of sorts... More like a testing and research facility... What in the world did they give Bellick... Poor, pale guy in the fetile(sp) position on the floor shaking even... Scary...

T-Bag stuck in jail (for time being) is priceless... Thinking he was gonna get out... Telling Bellick to rest up... For what, to be told that "you got caught"... HAHA!

I myself didn't notice Sara's belly... Kinda focused on other things at that time... But will re-watch it... Ever the man that Michael is, taking the blame... Sara feeling bad about taking a life... Gotcha there, but the guy would have killed Linc, Michael and herself... So I wouldn't feel THAT bad.... Still wish the Linc would have crushed Kim's throat or something...

The pad guy... I just don't know... I guess they had planned to use T-Bag in the end to get the boys down to SONA to begin with...

Sucre... Don't know what I think of how that story line ended... I mean... He is now bleeding to death laying in the street crying out for Maricruz... You know what would be sick... Bellick actually hiding Maricruz with Hector... Wouldn't that be a twist to knock your socks off...

It looks like now Linc has to save Michael and break him out for season 3... When Michael first got into SONA and walking down the hall looking around, it looked like his mind was working to figure out where he was and how to get out of it.

All I know is that I am sad that I have to wait till fall to get to see what will happen... So for now, I will close... If I think of something else I will be back... If not, till next season!

Maya-

I was frantic for your post today because I needed someone to explain what the frak happened! Can I assume that the following characters are gone for good: C-Note (Witness Protection), Sucre (dead on the streets of Panama), Kellerman (shot by his own plan or the Company's), and T-Bag (rotting in the non-SONA prison)? There were so many great scenes last night (I loved the Kellerman and Sara moment-"I have no idea what to say to you right now"), but there needed to be a few more actual answers.

I forgot...

Kellerman... He ended up being a stand up guy... Documenting everything and taking full responsibility for what happened... Now, do agents REALLY do things like that? Expose their own conspiracies (sp) and such? I'd be...

Oh, also Mahone... HAHA! You tried to set Michael up... What were you thinking... You knew Michael would get you one way or another... I kinda felt bad for Pam because at first he was all excited and telling her to come down and such and then he was like forget I ever existed... You could see the pain and let down in her face... Maybe I will feel sad for Mahone later, but right now, nah... Let him rot!

And Katewf98: I just don't think Sucre is gone yet... Hector and Maricruz is still unresolved... But we will see...

Ok, first of all I want to say that the first 40 minutes or so were AWESOME! But the ending just has me completely dumbfounded. I have a lot of faith in the writers, but I’m just hoping against hope that they didn’t jump the shark on this one. Is the show turning sci-fi? What’s with the lab coats? And did anyone get a Thunderdome feel when hearing the chanting coming from what I can only assume is some sort of arena or something? I’ve never actually seen the movie, but the first thought I had was “Two men enter, one man leaves”. My theory? They’re creating a superhuman army to take over the world. Dun dun dun.

Seriously though, what the hell? It should have ended with Sara telling Linc that he’s exonerated…

That being said, I am so totally there next season. As long as there is Wentworth, there will be me watching ;)

Oh and on a side note, I don’t think Kellerman had it set up to be killed. I just think he knew that this is just was the Company does. He talked and therefore he is now a dead man (he has to be, he already escaped his own suicide – living through this would just be unbelievable – even for PB). Of course killing Kellerman won’t look suspicious at all, especially now that he’s been all over the news telling the whole world that this is exactly what the Company does. Hmm…

I am totally stumped!

Are we to assume that SONA has locations in other places as well as Panama? What is the scientific part to it? When will that dude start talking?

So confused...lol

I will definitely be watching next season so that I know what the heck is going on! This seemed more like a season premeire to me then a finale with the setting up of so many questions and everything.

Can't we get any hints from the powers that be??

C-Note will most likely not be back. The actor who plays him (I forget his name) will be on Treat Williams' show Heartland in the fall, playing a renowned surgeon!

I wanted to cheer when Sara shot Kim. The b*****d deserved it. I just wish it could have been a more painful death.

Of course Kellerman expected to be killed. And, as someone said, he was already a dead man. He just got a chance to do the right thing--to atone for his sins as it were.

I'm hoping for Sucre & Maricruz to make it. They deserve some happiness.

I'd like to see Michael & Mahone working together to escape next year, with Sara & Linc doing their part on the outside. We won't see Sara for a while, though, until she gives birth. It's truly hard to disguise a pregnancy.

I'm wondering what will happen to former President Reynolds? If she's smart, she'd have left the country.

Yes, of course Kellerman did not set up his own execution. He merely knew that once he sang on the stand, he was a dead man. He even said so on the stand!

Oh, and I don't they "gave" Bellick anything to make him cringe and quiver like that--unless you mean what that big bruiser standing over him "gave" him.

I might be in the minority here, but I think this new prison has some good potential. When Michael and Mahone were standing in the rain looking at each other, I thought that was perfect. Then when we see Bellock laying on the floor, priceless. Maybe he should have been nicer to his prisoners instead of putting people together like he did and he wouldn't be that man's woman. I also loved the men dressed as women. It kind of reminded me of that football movie where prisoners played for some reason.

I don't think Sucre is dead. I think I saw someone's shoe get into the frame at the very last second, so they will probably take him to a hospital then throw him in jail with Michael.

I did see Sarah's baby bump when she hugged Wentworth, very cute. I wonder when she is due.

tdean: You really think that was all that happened to Bellick. I mean, yeah I have heard what happens to guys in prison and such, but to be laying on the floor so ill looking... There was just too many junkies dead on the floor and doing drugs around that I figured Bellick had to have been given something...

Oh, totally off subject here... What does Jumping the Shark mean??? (for us sometimes slow people)

Also, I'd think that the company would have already made the Ex-Prez disappear by now... Sent her to a retreat like Steadman (pre-death)...

Okay, seeing naked Bellick on the floor under the watchful eye of his um....friend was a little bit disturbing. Even if he is a jerk. That prison just looked scary, not to mention the shared looked between Alex & Michael. American prisons are one thing, but foreign ones are a whole different ball game. "This is as far as I go," the transport officer told Michael. Does that tell you anything?

Now, I know it's a little frustrating because this looks like it's going in circles. But, the show is called Prison Break, so somebody's going to have to keep breaking out of prison, no? Exactly how far could the President Patricia story go?

It will be interesting to see Michael, T-Bag (if he isn't killed first), Bellick, and Mahone team up to break out of this one. Although, T-Bag might like it. Looked like there were plenty of inmates who would want to hold on to the lining of his pockets in this facility.

Next season should be a very interesting one, I think. I'll be watching.

Mannie... The football movie... "The Longest Yard"? That the one? With the guys dressed up as cheerleaders... LoL! What a movie..

I totally didn't recognize Bellick! Dang - that puts a whole new twist on things. But seriously, WTF?! Michael just walks out that door into the rain and we're supposed to think ... what? What are we supposed to think?

Roush's "Dispatch" today explains his total annoyance at the finale and I have to say that I share some of that, too. The last 15-20 minutes of the finale sucked out loud.

And yet, I will anxiously await PB's return next season. I owe it to myself to see how it all turns out.
