Episode Recap 11
Love 'em. Hate 'em. It’s a fine line and one especially hard to toe on this pirate reality show. On the one hand, the players are supposed to be pirates who commit dastardly deeds in the pursuit of their own desires. On the other hand, they’re contestants on a game show, and as a viewer you want the best one to win. But "best" in this scenario doesn’t always translate to the nice guy, the honorable player, the person you could see yourself hanging out with if you knew him or her in real life. What makes a pirate good is their ability to put themselves first at all costs in order to stay on top and take home the most booty. These are not necessarily the traits you look for in a best friend. But in Pirate, now you’re talking. And on Pirate Master you’re specifically talking about Jay.
Jay puts the "smarm" in smarmy. He solidifies the stereotype of used-car salesman. He has slithered through this game like that serpent from a certain garden. Watching him on this show makes you wonder if he gets spat upon as he walks down the street and yet, as a pirate, you gotta give this man his props. He’s dastardly. He’s conniving. In a word, he’s good. You gotta love that.
Now that we’re down to the final six, Jay is orchestrating his final triumph. Captain Christa is in his pocket (or so he thinks). Ben, after a gentle reassurance, is by his side and Louie trusts him implicitly. So much so that he offers himself up as a pawn for the black spot. Duh! This brings me to the IQ-level issue. Far be it from me to imply that there’s a lack of wits aboard this ship, but for anybody to trust Jay at all would imply just that. Especially after the challenge that Jay, as a member of the red crew along with Laurel and Kendra, threw to the best of his ability. Since when has longboat carrying Jay lagged at sea? When has Jay ever held back and let somebody figure out the clues during a challenge? The signs were there, flashing in neon, yet Laurel and Kendra never suspected that Jay was working for the other side. So much so that he pointed the location of the treasure out to Ben. Fantastic pirate move!
"Karma is a boomerang," as Will Wilke from Big Brother 5 a few seasons back said as he walked out the door to meet Julie Chen. After all that work, the black crew found there was no treasure in their chest. Ha! Cheating never pays... if you’re Ben and can’t tell that Jay is dealing from the bottom of the deck when playing cards — yet another pirate move.
Come black spot time, Kendra got her sixth (and final) black spot while Louie volunteered for his fifth, secure in the fact that he was safe. That security faltered though. All his pirate buddies explained why he’d be the better pirate to vote out. I’ve not been Louie’s biggest supporter throughout the run of this show, but my heart broke a little for him when he stood there listing his inadequacies to show why he wasn’t a threat. No one should have to publicly admit their personal failings. The crew voted unanimously against Kendra, sparing Louie that final humiliation of being cut loose and releasing the viewers from another week of Kendra’s plea to stay on board.
Love 'em? Yeah. Hate 'em? Uh-huh. I’m torn.

Rhoda - thank yo so much for blogging above and beyond the call of duty. I do not have enough personal computer time to get through these episodes but you have made it very enjoyable!
I too have no trust in Jay and very little respect for Louie. Joe Don was my man and at least the show lasted long enough for me to see him depart!
Did Captain Christa in bikini and captain's attire still look stunning? I REALLY miss her!

The funniest scene was Jay pulling that chain up from the sand and not one of the other pirates noticed. He had to hit Ben over the head with it. Then Ben falling for the card scam put the nail in the coffin on him having any smarts at all. Three queen of hearts in a row, c'mon!
If the winner is based on being the best pirate then Jay is the man.
I think we've come to another turning point as far as voting and the black spots are concerned. There are only 5 pirates left so would they have 2 black spots and 2 voters?

Thank you so much for keeping us updated on the show! If you judge the winner on the basis of being a good pirate, then Jay should win, in spite of his character.
Gee, CBS, I hope 48 Hours Mystery is bringing in the viewers! Oh, wait...wasn't it NCIS last night?

I know we keep saying this every week Rhoda, but thank you so much for continuing these blogs, and not giving up on this show.....not like CBS.
Well I dont love Jay. Yeah he will make a great pirate for his sneakiness but so what he is still a weasel. And as for the previews for next it looks like he is going to get his in the head. And
Im hoping one of the women Laurel or Chrita wins pirate master. Im also happy that Kendra is finally gone. I was getting tired of seeing that thing hang down from her head.

Hi Rhoda:
Thanks again for the blog. CBS still sucks big time for yanking this show too soon. I think if they tweak it a bit, Pirate Master could be a nice summer show for them. They needed to explain the rules of the show more clearer for the viewers and have more twists and turns at the beginning of the series. I'd rather watch Pirate Master than watch 48 Hours Mystery or NCIS repeats, which by the way, I don't.
As for who I'm rooting for, I'd say either Louie or Christa. As for who's the best pirate, undeniably, it's Jay.

It really sucks that this show got pulled as every online episode has been better than the ones that aired on tv. The challenge this week again was long, tough, and somewhat complicated. Next week looks like Jay may finally get his come-uppance. Personally, I hope Christa wins. The more I can see of her in a pirate coat and bikini, the better. I also now believe that any tribute to Cheryl will be part of the final episode, as I'm betting that they reunite all the pirates for the finale. So, it wouldn't make sense to dedicate a show to her, and then have her show up. It will probably be tagged onto the end of the finale...that is if CBS has ANY class.

Add my vote of thanks for these blogs, though the longer I get away from having seen the show, the less interested in it I'm becoming, so that I've discover, today, after waiting to read this blog, that I no longer care.
Wonder about Lawler. No posts at all. Is it since the show left the airwaves for the internet (that many of us can't see) OR is it the loss of Asmyth? Miss your posts.

Thanks so much for the Recap. I can't watch the online shows so I really appreciate it.
One thing though- although I am very mad that CBS yanked this show, let's not diss on 48 Hours. I love watching that Although Saturday nights is just fine instead of getting rid of Pirate Master. Just a note.
I wondered about Lawler as well. I find it strange that since Azmath left there have been no posts.

I still can't believe CBS cancelled this show just as it was really getting good.
Jay might technically be the best pirate, but I can't stand him and really hope he gets his comeuppance next week and doesn't end up winning. His sliminess reminds me so much of Boston Rob (from, you know, that other show). I can't believe nobody figured out that he threw that challenge. It was so painfully obvious. And what was Ben drinking that he couldn't tell that Jay was cheating at the cards? I'm glad that Kendra outed Jay to Christa at least a little bit.
I want Laurel to win. I love her.

Thank God! I was wondering what happened to the show. I figured I would get some answers on line. My 5 year old son and I became addicted. How could CBS take the show off the air in the middle of the series?...just as it was getting good! Mind you, it's not the best show on TV, but we looked forward to it every week. We are big time American Idol fans, so we just love rooting for our favorites and dread the eliminations! I will tune in for the updates. I fear Jay may win...he's such a snake! Thanks again!
