Episode 13 Recap
I'm a bit surprised to still be writing about Louie at this stage of the game. Here is a player that I thought surely would not last very long in the game. Yet week after week there he is, raspy voice and all. I've had my ups and downs with Louie from mild annoyance to commiseration, and to that now I can add a dose of pity. Poor guy. He truly didn’t deserve to be used like he was. Of course, this takes me to Ben, that player who has ridden every available coattail throughout this game. Ben, who, following in Jay's expedition-throwing footsteps, ensured that Louie, his partner on the red crew, would not win, therefore guaranteeing that Christa remain captain and that the Triad II remain in power.
Even after last week's blowup, this trio of numskulls managed to stay a team and double-cross earnest, honest Louie. It does astound me, though, that Louie didn't recognize the sabotage. Let's see, Ben couldn't row the boat ashore so Louie had to take over and whiz by the black crew by sheer force of will and some amazing rowing power. How did I miss the one skill Louie actually possessed all this time? Then at Dead Man's Pool, Louie didn't recognize that Ben was pretending not to find the sunken clue to give his true teammates the upper hand. What upsets me most is that not only was Ben just screwing with the game, he was really messing with Louie's pocket. The man lost out on a $40K treasure just because Ben had to prove his loyalty to Sweetbeard.
Yes, I'm aware that I'd been crowing for just this sort of activity for weeks now, but when it comes down to it, I'm just a nice girl at heart looking for the puppies and rainbows in the situation. Louie started his day out with a spectacular full rainbow on the horizon. Now that's the way to wake up. Too bad it bore no pot of gold for him in the end.
On to Christa and her BFF Jay. Again, I'm stunned by her commitment to the dastardly salesman. In nearly every confessional, Jay basically remarks to the audience that he'd sell those same kids that Christa's so concerned about and yet Christa trusts him more than anyone else. So much so that at this stage of the game, when all the power at Pirates Court lies in the hands of the sole crewman — a crewman who can oust the captain with a vote for mutiny or decide with a single vote which black-spotted mate makes it into the final three — she chose Jay as her most trusted ally and issued black spots to Ben and Louie.
Again, I'm feeling for Louie. He was so grateful to receive $5K from Christa and Jay. He trusted that these sweet, kind people were his friends. Even at Pirates Court he argued to stay, with a good-natured "You don't want to be known as the dog who crushed Lou-Dog's dreams" plea to Jay. That's why it was so hard to watch when Ben cleared his own conscience by owning up to throwing the challenge. Poor Louie. All he could say was, "I feel like I was played."
Well, duh! You were, Louie! And while I’m so sick of Ben's guilt (and Christa and Jay's, too, for that matter), I have to say that my pity for Louie is rife with annoyance again. How he lasted this long in the game being just a mess of a clueless player is amazing. But as he said with all the flair of a B-movie actor while climbing down to the raft: "No tears, Baby. Don't make me cry."
Don't worry Louie, I won't.

At least Louie found out about Ben throwing the challenge right after it happened and with an apology. I bet Laurel and Kendra had quite the surprise when they saw Jay had done the same to them. It looks like the Ghost Pirates will make the decide the winner. How can they make an informed decision? I've enjoyed this show but I'm disappointed with the "one vote" this ep and (what appears to be) the jury in the next.

Hi Rhoda:
Thanks again for continuing this blog.
I felt very sorry for Louie. He gave 100%, no matter what was asked of him. When he was captain, he offered to be given a black spot when he lost his captainship, in order to prove whether or not he deserved to stay on the ship. He lied to no one and was very loyal to Laurel. He lost out on his fair share of $40 grand treasure. The Triad II should've given him at least $20 grand, instead of the measly $5 grand they gave him. Seeing Louie falling all over himself in gratitude made me that much more angry. I'm actually glad that Christa allowed Jay to stay in the competition. When Jay finally wins, Christa will have no one to blame but herself. I wonder if Jay will give Christa a few bucks of his winnings in order to help Christa out with her kid? I think not!

Is anyone else having trouble watching this show the last two weeks? I have high-speed DSL, but it constantly stops ("Buffering...") and is unbearable to watch due to the delays. I can go back to, say, Episode 10 and it works fine. Just these last two are problems. Naturally, CBS doesn't give any help in the FAQs and doesn't give easy help contacts.
Just wondering...

Hawkman--I only had trouble with the buffering 2-3 times. But my sister complained to me about it being constant. Sounds like you share the same problem.
At first I had trouble even watching the episodes using Mozilla (Firefox.) For the first one online after it was dumped from TV, I could watch all but the final segment of the episode (it just refused to load--turns out I wasn't alone). When I tried watching it in Internet Explorer it worked fine.
So, I don't know what browser you're using but try another one. I've had problems and success with both Mozilla and IE. Depends on the day, apparently. Sounds simple, but trying another browser might be just enough to keep it from buffering so often.
Hope it helps.

I am so glad I stopped watching this show. The concept was something I was looking forward to but the execuiton of it totaly stank. Very sorry to hear Louie was set adrift. Nothinig to say about Jay or Ben that wouldn't be censored.

Sorry to see Louie go out that way, but at least Ben manned up and admitted his guilt. I want to see Christa win, but Jay probably deserves it more. Ben can just sing a lament to the winner.

Thank you so much for keeping up with the show and blogging for us. I can't watch the show online. I have tried and all I get is the sound and a slide show of still pictures. Very annoying.
I wish I could watch it though.
Sad to see Louie treated like that. Poor guy.

Hawkman, I had the same problem with Firefox as Cruciatus this week, but like him I switched to Internet Explorer and then I didn't have any trouble. So like he said, you might try changing browsers. I noticed Firefox uses RealPlayer, which I've never really liked. Windows Media Player is better, I think.
On to the show.
I think Christa's getting dumber as time goes by. That's the only reason I can think of that she's still trusting Jay after all he's said and done. Maybe she's gettin' a little too much sun or something? I did feel really sorry for Louie. I hate to see any of the three that's left win. As far as I'm concerned, they're all jerks who don't really deserve it. Now that Louie and Laurel, my two favorite people, are out of the running, I no longer care who wins. But if the rest of the already ousted crew know even half of what he's done, I'd be willing to bet it won't be Jay. Should be interesting.

Prplrose5--Not that it actually matters in the grand scheme of things...but I'm a woman. I take no offense yet still feel I must correct people anyway. I have flashbacks to being called "him" as an 9 year old girl with a short hair cut...
I don't know who to root for. I hate when that happens come finale time. I think I'd have to say Christa. But she made the stupidest moves (yet...she's still there despite them).
Jay was probably the best actual pirate... using people at the right time in the right way (and they tended to know it yet trust him anyway...doi!)
But I still don't like him...and I don't remember Ben doing anything but throwing the latest challenge...
I guess Christa, for me, is the lesser evil (which isn't high praise).

Sorry about that, Cruciatus. I didn't know so I just assumed. My bad. I'll know not to do that again.
