« Michael Dorn

Michael Dorn ... a super guy.

Michael Dorn is one of my favorite people. He was born in Luling, Texas but raised in Pasadena California where he went to the Pasadena City College. His early interest were in music and his early professional career was as a performer in several rock bands. I think he is a handsome man and can easily do “leading romantic men” actor. His first small part was on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. He co-starred for three seasons as Officer Jed Turner on the popular NBC series CHiPS and guest starred in many primetime series including Knots Landing and Falcon Crest. And of course he played Lt. Worf, the Klingon Security Chief of the U.S.S. Enterprise. After completing the Star Trek's Deep Space Nine series and Star Trek films, Dorn hung up his trademark Worf forehead and moved on to Timemaster. He also starred in a Showtime tele-film Amanda and the Alien. He did a star turn in the Showtime series The Outer Limits, and acted as host of the Discovery Channel's The World of Wonder. Michael wrote, directed, and starred in the short film Through the Fire. Plus, I’m sure you have heard his voice on many games and animation films.

I understand his love is flying and flies to air shows around the country. He has flown with some famous flying groups, The Blue Angels, USA Precision Flight Team and the Thunderbirds. He also serves as a member of the Air Force Aviation Heritage Foundation. Quite the man you would say, yes. Well, as I said he is one of my favorite people. He gained a lot of respect from me due to an incident at a Star Trek Convention, which my son and I attended. My son, being a budding artist had done a really great painting (even if I do say so) of his character of Worf. Anyway, my son wanted to present this to Michael but it was announced Mr. Dorn didn't have time for autographs and had to leave as soon as his stage time was over. I told my son to go give his painting to one of his “assistants” standing at the far end of the room. I just prayed the assistant would take it graciously and then my son would be happy. My son was halfway across the room when Michael saw him, stopped his dialogue to call my... awe-struck..wide-eyed...son up to him on stage. Michael took the painting and held it up for all to see …and said something like …”This looks like me??” The crowd had roared, clapped and to top it off Michael shook my son’s hand and thanked him for the painting. Michael then went on with his dialogue, answered questions and was just very personable. But he won my heart when he ended his time on stage was almost completely off stage…..when he stopped... came back for the painting he had placed on a chair. He pointed a finger where my son and I were sitting and did a wink. A class act. I mean many actors I’m sure get a “gift” from many fans and just toss them to an assistant to do whatever with. And if that happened ok, but he didn’t do in front of his “number 1 fan”. He will always have a warm spot in my heart for that.
Thank you Michael. Dinner is on me anytime.
