Medium (Season 4: Episode 1) And Then

Glad to see all of the regulars back on Medium. Also, it's surprising that Angelica Huston is being added for at least 6 episodes.

However, this episode was rather disappointing. It seemed odd that Angelica's character Cynthia Keener had enough intuition to find Allison in the mall, but immediately dismissed Allison for having ESP.

Also, Allison's daughter Ariel brings and introduces a girl friend to her music teacher, but her friend looks about five to ten years older than her.

Furthermore, when Scanlon shoots the suspect, how does he intend to find the dead boy's body (assuming Allison is right that the boy is dead)? Isn't the boy whereabouts important at the end, as it was throughout the entire story? There is absolutely no closure in regards to the boy.

Lastly, there weren't many interesting scenes in this episode. Besides the rat doll clue scene, the most interesting scene was probably Joe trying to find a job.

I thought he had already found the little boys body. Wasn't it in one of those doll boxes on the second level of the warehouse? I even thought the body had been taken to the coroner and they said they didn't know what kind of poison had been used and would find out after the autopsy. Then when the exterminator turned out to be the killer he said the rat poison caused the rats to suffer a nasty death. I agree about Huston's character not having the snap to know who Allison was. She could pick her out of a crowd but had no idea who she really was inspite of the news about her being everywhere. I loved the episode and I am so glad it is back.

That is exactly right. That's why Scanlon immediately pinged on the guy when he found out he was an exterminator & had been putting down poison.

FWIW, I almost turned the show off about halfway through. I completely skipped the last two episodes of last season because I was so fed up with the whole "publicity hysteria" thing. Anjelica Houston was the only thing that convinced me to try it again this year, anyway, and when the bad psychic jokes started up again & she didn't show up until halfway through the show, I started getting fed up again. However, I stuck it out and now I'm glad I did.

Last season it seemed really eerie that Joe, being an aerospace engineer, got held hostage at work with some of his co-workers, some of whom were killed. Then, what, about 2 or 3 weeks later that really happened at NASA and some of the employees were killed by a co-worker. I mean, the show is about a Medium who knows things and then this happened. For such a tragedy to have actually happened after it happened on the tv show about a physic was eerie.
This is one of my favorite shows and I hope to see it continue for a while.

I too am a fan of this show. Last night’s episode was rather intriguing considering their attempts to sway it in a different direction (with the DA on hiatus and Joe and Allison being jobless). The scene in which Scanlon finds the boys’ body in a box was very intensifying. Scanlon reveals the reasoning for this gruesome doll figure in his conversation with the interim DA. Lt. Scanlon was quick to question the exterminator (from obvious reasons of him having a key) because he came in dancing. (Remember the rather disturbing scene in which is was undressing himself while the kid was laughing? As if he was doing some sort of puppet show?)
This show has been great over the years for plot development. It makes you feel for the victims (and their families) while shaking a clinched fist at the villains. Not this time though. There was little room for it considering their ill-fated choice of going with Ariel and (what I hope will not be a trend) her teenage bitterness (or is whining a better word for it).
I believe that Angelica Huston’s “intuitive” abilities lies in regards to her being a private investigator. This makes her “human” and liable for making mistakes (such as not knowing who Allison is).
This is a good time for Medium to kick back on the air. There’s a huge gap in quality shows on at the moment.

Oops! I obviously missed a few minutes. I was flipping back a few times to the Ohio State vs. LSU national title game, which I was watching before Medium started. That fills in the gaps for me.

So, sorry. I retract my statements about Scanlon and the boy and obviously, this was a good episode as others have indicated.

P.S. - Wait a minute. Aren't police supposed to do a thorough search of the premises where a kid is kidnapped? (Certainly, after this story, they should.)

I'm glad this show is back, I really love it, BUT, I have notices in the last 2 seasons, how brutally graphic it's become. Last season with the decapitation and now actually showing a little boys dead body. That completely turned me off. He's a little boy for pete's sake, I didn't want to see that, they could have just shown us parts of his body without being so graphic. I neary turned it off.

Also, when is Allison going to stop jumping when she has a nightmare?? I have bad dreams, sometimes really bad, but I don't jump, it just seems unreal, almost as unreal as the empty coffee cups people carry around. But I am a die hard fan, I just hope this season is not too graphic.

OK, now I am confused. I did not see the little boys body, only when Scanlin was searching through the doll boxes and you could see he found the boy but you really could not see much more than that. I didn't see any graphic details. I may be like the fan that was switching back & forth to the LSU game. I might have missed a part. Also, I had the impression that the boy had been taken off the premises and put in a cage while the pervert danced and stripped. I'm not sure if that was a different place or just in the warehouse area. I guess I am watching it for enjoyment and not to scrutinize all the details. If it is not a blatent error to me then I don't catch the mistakes made. Plus, I am hoping that these are fictional stories, not fact. I know they are supposed to be based on the real Allison's experiences but I don't know if they are using real events she has dealt with.
