african american characters

I suppose I must be the unmpteenth person to ask, but what happened to ALL the black characters in LOST. Michael and his son just disappeared, Mr Eko had to die by black smoke, even the darker one out of the rescuers was killed off first. What is it, just instinct or something? Just like it nice and cosy and inbred eh? i know there are indian and oriental characters, but they seem to get the superflouos treatment. Its the Jack-Sawyer-Freckles show at the moment.

I feel your pain. But don't be discouraged, Michael and Walt will be back. And we still have the lovely Rose.

On another note, I think it's more PC to say Asian, not oriental. Oriental is used more to refer to an object such as a rug or a painting. Just FYI:-x

There's one Sister still in the show. She's married to the white man that stayed back to help "hold off" the Others. Who knows... she could be one of the "six".

I really don't think that you could call Sayid's charector getting superflouos treatment.

LOST has one of the most diverse ethnic casts on TV today. They should be applauded!

Not to change the subject BUT...has any one notice how time sequence is geting really wacked. Desmond think he cause the crash by not pushing the 108 botton and it seems like ever since that hacth was blown up when Desmond used the failsafe key - time has been completely disjointed & weird.

1. explains Walt being a "giant" now
2. last night the drop that Daniel did arrived 31 minutes late.
3. Did anyone notice that when syaid and Kate got to the Others village - it looked run down. Just 2 weeks ago when Jack was held captive there is was perstine...white picket fenses that last night looked like they had no paint.

Weird - right? and seeing the wreckage under water on TV..... that's got to have taken more than 100 days to find

What about the Hispanic/Latino shout outs? Hugo, based on flashbacks is Hispanic, but he could pass for white. Ana-Lucia was killed off, and that Other actor went on to star in Cane. Why could not one of the new rescuers be Hispanic/Latino? The character who went to talk to Hugo in the mental hospital is black, and he was also responsible for sending out the rescuers to the island. The Other black woman was also killed off last season. So it would seem like there are enough African-American characters moving through the storyline, but not enough Latino/Hispanic characters.

The reason this is the Jack/Sawyer/Kate show is like every other program on television, ratings and fans help to determine the direction of much of the storylines. Many shows on television only have one core black character: CSI, CSI: Miami, CSI:NY, Without a Trace, House, Bones, Numbers, Las Vegas, Law and Order (has two), Law and Order: SVU (Two), and Law and Order: CI (Zero), Shark (two), NCIS (zero) Chuck (one); Jericho has a single black family living out in Kansas, and Desperate Housewives wrote off their one black family. Smallville wrote off their sole black character, as did Ghost Whisperer.

Cold Case is based in Philadelphia where 40 percent of the population is African-American, and most of the murder victims in recent years have been black, but from what I have seen, most of the episodes revolve around white dead people. I stopped watching the show because it was not based on what is really going on in Philadelphia. For me there is a lack of reality on this program.

Cane may not have survived the season, but hopeful we will start seeing more prime time programs featuring Latino/Hispanic core families; at least Desperate Housewives have that one covered.

On top of that almost all african american characters on lost are "killers". EKO was a drug runner/mercenary/priest. Michael was "tricked" into killing Anna lucia and Libby. It doesn't seem fair that these people are portrayed to be in "desparate" situations to be changed into killers.

I don't really think the decisions are based on skin pigmentation! Black, white, orange or blue...the actor plays a character and if the character is written out of the show...that's what happens.

Maybe I'm a bit nieve...which I don't think i am. But I really don't think there's any corrolation between the deaths & the skin color. Its all about the story line. :)

Why do people always have to make every little thing into a race related issue. I will never understand.
