Seen and Heard at the Upfronts

Daly's Primetime Practice
While Tim Daly is excited about his new show Private Practice, he can't help but be a little skeptical. Can you blame him? The last three series he's been on — The Fugitive, Eyes, The Nine — all got nixed during their first seasons. "I approach everything with a healthy amount of optimism," he said while hanging out at the Lucky Suite, where he picked up some Cosabella lingerie and True Religion jeans for his wife and daughter. "I just don't want to get my heart broken again. You just never know." Still, Private Practice is one of the most buzzed about shows this season. "We all figured it would do great since the pilot was embedded in a Grey's Anatomy episode," said Daly. "But it's really exciting." His costar Merrin Dungey is a little more enthusiastic about being cast on the Grey's spin-off. "I actually screamed when I saw myself on next week's clips," Dungey said at ABC's Upfront party. "It's like being cast on your favorite show. I feel like I'm Mike TV from Willy Wonka."

ABC Party Patrol
The stars were generally seen and not heard at the ABC Upfront party held at Lincoln Center. For the most part the famous folk stayed behind the velvet ropes where partygoers lined up to get their photos snapped with their favorite players. Few left their stations to mingle with the commoners. The exceptions: Ugly Betty's Rebecca Romijn and Michael Urie, who bolted into the crowd to catch up with Alias' Victor Garber, who embraced them with big hugs. Lost's Terry O'Quinn also headed into the main area, snaking through the crowd, to catch Grey's Anatomy's Chandra Wilson and Sandra Oh on their way out. When Oh saw O'Quinn, she flashed a huge smile, perhaps her first genuine one of the night. For the most part the Grey's cast seemed less than enthused to be there. Even the Desperate Housewives girls smiled and chatted with fans, though they were the first stars to exit. Among new shows, Private Practice garnered most of the attention. The recently engaged Kate Walsh, who coincidentally was wearing a white dress, snuck out a back door as soon as her photo session was over. — Reporting by Ali Gazan

As for the Grey's Anatomy crowd not being in a party mood, can you blame them? Seems like every time this cast gets out in public, they develop foot in mouth disease...Guess the good docs at Grey's haven't found a cure for that yet.
