CBS Sneak Peek: Swingers, Geeks and Vampires, Oh My!
CBS on Monday began tipping its hand, ordering several new shows.
On the drama front, there is Cane, starring NYPD Blue alum Jimmy Smits as the head of a Latin-American family in the rum biz; Moonlight (FKA Twilight), starring Alex O'Loughlin as a P.I. who is, by the way, a vampire; Viva Laughlin, a Hugh Jackman-produced import of a BBC series, concerning a family man who dreams of opening a casino in Laughlin, Nevada; and Swingtown, an Ice Storm-esque look at couples swapping partners in the '70s.
The laffer bound for the Eye is The Big Bang Theory, starring Roseanne's Johnny Galecki and Jim Parsons as science geeks who befriend a party girl, (8 Simple Rules' Kaley Cuoco).
CBS presents its full schedule on Wednesday. — Matt Webb Mitovich

Didn't we already have a vampire detective in Forever Knight? Do we really need another?
The only show that sounds a bit interesting is the Jimmy Smits rum-producing family. I guess the title Cane refers to the sugar cane needed to produce the rum?

Second that!

Haha, that was so long ago that I almost forgot about it. Looks like CBS (along w/ NBC) are starting to run out of ideas.
On the drama front, there is Cane,
Didn't CBS have a drama called Citizen Cane a few years ago starring Jack Bauer's dad?

Coold care less about these shows and want to hear The Unit is coming back ? None of these new shows sound interesting while The Unit is still the best show on CBS so unless The Unit is set to come back I'm not interested ,,

Hi all..
Rod, all I know is that on May 11, the Hollywood Reporter said it looked like HIMYM and Christine were coming back as reported by zapzit.com. I love 'em both too!!
http://www.zap2it.com/tv/news/zap-cbschristineengagementreports,0,25950.story.
I too hope Jericho returns (love love scene-stealer Alicia Coppola as Mimi, she is an alum of Another World!).
The Unit, think that is a sure thing, the one that was looking iffy was Close to Home (and Jericho I guess).
Cheers.
PS Rod, this is for you too, a variety article that also projects renewals for HIMYM and New Christine.

ALSO: CBS really did screw JERICHO by giving it that long hiatus. I wish all the networks would learn how audiences are watching TV now ..... The smartest move Fox made for 24 was waiting until January and running it consecutively ....... now Lost is gonna do it (VERY SMART) ....... they are trying to "fool us" with this "fall finale" concept, but it's just not the same. When a show is on each and every week, and we as viewers know this, we are NOT likely gonna miss it.

There was another vampire detective show besides Forever Knight, it was called Angel. As far as I am concerned, if Moonlight has the same production values as most CBS shows, and even decent writing, it should be a pretty tight show. Besides, why complain about the fact that there is another vampire detective show... I mean honestly, half of CBS's show are pretty much the same thing. It is exciting to see them branch out in more creative directions than cops and lawyers.

Pretty lackluster crop of new shows, though part of that is so many new projects star people I've never heard of and know nothing about. They may actually be good shows. I think a vampire show is about the last thing TV needs right now. The really stupid thing about vampire shows is that they always want to make the vampire the lead character, so the whole show ends up being about a vampire WHO HAS TO AVOID DOING VAMPIRE THINGS.

Vampire cop! Terrible idea!! What would be the vampire cop do, trying to suck out the blood during interrrogation?! Sound like the ill-fated Blade on Spike!
I would pick Dresden File over Moonlight.
The drama produced by Hugh Jackman sounds somewhat interesting, I'll give it a try.
Swingtown?!--Sound like Desperate housewives in the 70's. Yikes!!

Now if the vampire cop was Spike from the Buffy/Angel universe, I'd watch. Otherwise, naaah.
The Viva Blackpool... er, Laughlin might be interesting, but would it translate at all to the States?
