Is D'Onofrio Leaving Criminal Intent?

According to the schedule, the next 3 episodes are "Noth" episodes. With Goren's last words (Nov. 14th episode) being "go ahead and fire me" - and the character's accompanying frayed mental state, it appears they may be working on a way to phase him out. I would be interested in anyone posting thoughts or information along these lines. Has anyone heard or read anything recently? The cast of the "Noth" episodes is less than riveting. The acting last night (Nov. 21) was abysmal. Julianne Nicholson is comparable to a ventriloquist's dummy - no spark (or acting) there. But the writer's aren't giving her (or anyone else) much either. Some of the lines are eye rollers. The plot last night was a joke. Captain (Bogosian) hasn't grown into his role either. Completely boring. If Goren is gone, I'm gone.

I competely agree with you. Vincent D'Onofrio is what makes that show worth watching. It is how he plays his role that makes it interesting.....sorta reminds me of Colombo sometimes.....the way he says "one more thing" or "just a question".

I hope that he is not leaving as well. As another member said I like him because he is so much like a modern day Columbo.

I truly hope that Goren and Eames stay on L&O:CI. The way they work together is brilliant. I really enjoy the way they tag-team their suspects into submission. Goren psychologically circles like a hawk, while Eames snaps at them with her biting wit. I get a right kick of how Eames is much like a kid-sister to Goren when she says some amusing things to or about her partner. Such as: 'He got that off his box of Wheaties this morning.'; 'I didn't know that you had an older, geekier brother.'. I very much want BOTH to stay. Not to say, however, that Logan should split (I like him, too). Sad to say, Logan's partners (in CI) have been dull. But there it is.

I forgot to make mention of the following. Goren, or perhaps Vincent D'Onofrio himself, has lost his edge in the past year or two. He's not quite as avid as he was since the beginning. D'Onofrio has appeared in two movies in 2005 and 2006 since his collapse, and currently working on another. Hard to say if he is taking on too many projects at once and/or is just plain fed-up with L&O:CI and/or exhausted. Whatever the case may be, many folk would like for him to stay on board.

Vincent D'Onofrio IS Criminal Intent as the series was written with him specifically in mind. While I'm well aware of the popularity of all the Law and Order shows the only one I watch is Criminal Intent and I do so because it features Vincent. Oh, love the rest of the cast as well, especially K. Erbe, but really miss Jamey and Courtney. When Vincent decides that its time to leave, that is when this viewer will also exit. I don't think he's leaving though, but rather his character is just developing in a different direction. So I guess we'll all just wait and see. Incidently, his movie roles are also awesome to say the least so I'm glad he pursues both.

Wow guys, all great posts, thanks so much for entering into this forum! I think the fact that Vincent is taking on other projects is good - I like to see him exercise his Character Actor chops in other places - but I agree that it would be a shame for him to spread himself too thin. It appears he is prone to "Exhaustion" (which is sometimes code for "Other Health Issues" that people in the limelight would prefer to keep quiet) - his initial collapse was the reason Noth was brought back in to begin with. I am sorry to hear that it happened again recently. I do wonder why his recent/ongoing movie projects aren't listed on his IMDb page - even projects that aren't yet complete are usually listed as being in "Pre-production", "Filming" or "Post-production". Curious. I am happy to hear that others are liking K. Erbe too. She just cracks me up. They are a perfect pairing. I also agree that Vincent's Goren has lost some of his intensity over the past year or two. Having most CI's on tape, there is a marked difference between the Goren of say, 2002/03 and the Goren of today. True that his character is developing in a somewhat different direction, but we are not sure if that is by design, because he is tired....or because this is the beginning of his demise. Guess we'll have to wait it out.

I agree with all of you and I'm hoping V. D'Onofrio and K. Erbe aren't gone for good. They ARE the show. But lately, it seems like NBC has no problems leaving fans hanging after getting them hooked on characters and a story. While not a fan of Noth's, I have to admit, he is growing on me on CI although I'm not thrilled with any of his partners as yet. I'm hoping that V&K will just be out for a season or so and then come back. The one person I can see as a possible replacement for Goren is Eric Bogosian but he's the captain so I don't think that will happen.

I have been wondering about something for quite sometime. I know that Goren and Eames are Detectives; but the particular rank of each is unknown. There is Det-Con, Det-Sgt, Det-Lt. Which one is each? I remember Columbo was a Det-Lt.

Good question Inspector...does anyone know the answer to this bit of trivia? On another frustrating note, I just checked the CI scheduling and we have Reruns again for the next 3 weeks (12/5 - 12/19), perhaps longer, but this is as far in advance as they have listed. Sigh. I am really not liking this. Hopefully, when the new year hits, we'll be back on schedule with new episodes. If I want Reruns, I can just watch USA and Bravo every friggin' night. New material PLEASE~!

I noticed that the reruns are slated up here in Canada, too. A number of telly series have reruns in mid-season. I suppose it gives them time to shoot new episodes. Is everyone having fun yet, what with our nail-biting situation over our beloved Goren and Eames (Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe)? Footnote: I also miss Jamey Sheridan (Deakins) and Courtney B Vance (Carver).

Boy, I hear that! The show seems empty somehow with Sheridan (Deakins) and Vance (Carver) gone. I really miss their input. Especially on the Noth episodes when I am having problems with Logan and Wheeler keeping my interest!

There are a couple of Aussie websites where Vincent said that he was glad that Chris Noth is filling in for half of the seasons, because he cannot handle the full 22 episodes. It was agreed amongst Vincent, Chris, Rene Balcer, and Dick Wolf. I have always liked Noth's Logan from the beginning in the original Law & Order. It's good to see a familiar face to fill in. Logan's partners were good in the original L&O, but his new ones in CI, particularly Wheeler, yawn. They need someone who has his/her wits about him/her. Samantha Buck (Bishop), who filled in for Kathryn on maternity leave, may be a good choice for Logan. Bishop is intellegent and has some sense of wit. However, I didn't like her competitive nature against Eames. Kathryn's Eames is the quintessential partner to Vincent's Goren.
