March 4, 2007: Heartbreak HoteL

It's been pretty light and fun for most of this season's L Word, so it seems natural that with only four episodes left, it would be time for some heartbreak.

The biggest heartbreak of the night fell on Shane, and I felt so devastated for her, especially as the camera revealed her face literally falling to the floor as she hugged Shay goodbye. She kept it together for Shay, which was the right thing to do for him, and she was the epitome of grace in the situation. I just hope that Shane learned it is worth it to be responsible and devoted to somebody. One thing for certain is that while she took care of her brother, we got to see Shane's true colors, and they were very different than the person we witnessed leaving her bride at the altar last season. She's really grown as a person. She made a damn good big sister, and she's a wonderful friend. I hope that even though Shay wound up leaving, that Shane remembers who she really is... and that she truly is not like her father... not anymore.

(Oh, and every time Eric Roberts is on the show, I marvel at what a good casting choice he is for that role; those two even look alike.)

OK, back to heartbreak. So then on the cute side of heartbreak, we've got, "Arnold is in my bed." I loved that scene: wonderful comedic timing and chemistry with all of the ladies and with Arnold. I'm really happy that Phyllis isn't a clingy character anymore, and that she and Alice agreed to be friends. Maybe now we'll get some more fun scenes with Leisha Hailey and Cybill Shepherd. It was so sweet when Phyllis told Arnold that if she ever wanted to be with a man again, it would be with him.

The first-place prize for Most Adorable of the Evening is one Papi smitten with a Kit(ten). Do you think she and Kit will hook up, or do you think Kit will take Angus back? I've always really been a huge fan of Angus, but I love, love, love Papi and Kit... especially the side of Papi that we see with Kit. And I hope that the girls help Kit soon, because that spiral down into the bottle is not pretty. Besides, she's too good for that. C'mon, Kit, dust yourself off, girl!

I would give Jodi and Bette second place for Most Adorable of the Evening, but instead, I'm giving them first place for Hottest L Word Couple. Wow! I love them together. See, didn't I say in one of the first blogs this season that Bette would fall hard for Jodi? Jodi's really good for her... Bette seems softer since she's been with Jodi. She smiles more often, she's less bitter, she's even nice to Tina lately. Jodi's good for Bette, I think.

I hate seeing Max getting persecuted at work. I guess it was too presumptuous to give the benefit of the doubt to his boss (Brooke's dad). I felt so bad when that woman text-messaged the other guy in the boardroom: "He... she... it?" That was horrible. And then his family asks him not to come home to attend his own mother's funeral? Talk about heartbreak. I love Grace, she is really good for Max. It's just nice to see Max with somebody who seems to care for him, because it's been one helluva lonely road since he made the decision to leave Moira behind.

Jenny and Tina: oh my gosh, what an entertaining disaster! If I were Tina, I'd be ready to poke Jenny's eyes out by now, or at least do something creative with her tongue to get her to shut the L up at those director's meetings. I did love Mia Kirshner's Julia Roberts impersonation, though. Too funny! Oh, and I loved the opening "Lez Girls" scene. The idea of making the story into a musical turned out to be a bit cheesy, but the opening scene was a great pace-setter for the rest of the episode. I'm really curious about how the Lez Girls movie will continue to evolve through the rest of the season.

The award for Most in Need of a Lobotomy goes to Helena Peabody. So let me get this straight: She's Catherine's girl toy, administrative assistant and cash cow, yet she gets no money for any of the above? Hello?! Helena's smarter than that, isn't she? Isn't she?

not to be nit picky, but Leonard, not Arnold!

As much as I love Shane's character, I'm glad things didn't work out with her brother because of the cr_p she pulled with Carmen. Karma is a ... well, you know the rest.

Not that I don't like Angus, but I was never sold on his relationship with Kit. I would only want Kit with Papi if the writers plan to make it a lasting relationship.

Jodi and Bette make a sexy couple. Did I miss something? What happened to Bette's assistant? I know Bette decided to end the sexual relationship, but I thought the assistant would still be around.

Finally, regarding Helena, it's interesting how the writers are portraying her now. You would think she would wise up and make sure she's getting paid. I think she likes the attention from Catherine, being around "money," and just doing something in her life. I wish she (Helena) had a successful job like she once had. I can understand what her mother did, but it's too bad she lost her career as a result.

And I'm so sad: only a few more episodes :(

The kitchen scene between Shane and her father was powerful.

Yes, that was Marina in the Lez Girls musical scenes... It will be interesting to see how that all plays out, because she has obviously read the story and knows that Jenny has written it about her.

I hope Helena wises up and FAST! I would hate to see her get taken advantage of and wind up back in the poor house by season's end....

As much as I love Jodi and Bette together, they have a lot to struggle with. I don't see Jodi completely changing her stance on monogamy just for Bette. I see her making Bette fall in love with her and then a few months down the road needing to date other people again, leaving Bette devestated and bitter.... again.

p.s. Does anyone else absolutely LOVE Alice and Tasha together?!?! I hope they end up being the long-lasting, stable, monogamous couple that this show really needs!

It doesn't look to me as if Jenny takes the bait for the musical because of the previews next week.

I can't believe Marina was there!!

I have a feeling that Marina being in the dance troupe is the turn off. She didn't seem all too pleased to me. LOVED that they had the lesbian duo the Ditty Bops singing the song too! I love them whenever I see them on LOGO's music show.

Tina needs to kick Jenny to the curb. Ugh. I sense impending doom on this case.

I sure as hell hope that Kit DOES NOT go to Papi. Papi will eventually tire and then go on to break Kit's heart by cheating too. She's a playa. She can't totally change her game.

I am also sick of the men on the show all being *beeeeeeps*. Since Angus has been the nicest that we've seen so far, I hope they have him redeem himself to Kit somehow. Angus was a damn fool to do this to her not only because Kit loved him so much but because of her musical connections.

So I take it if Bette and Jodi get together that Marlee Matlin will need to join the cast for good too?

I don't see Alice and Tasha lasting because the "dont ask don't tell" thing will get in the way, IMHO.

I do love how Alice, the bi gal, seems to be the glue of the clique though.

Her scene with Shane at the end was simultaniously hilarious and heartwarming. I feel so bad for Shane. I hope this doesn't twist her even further away from being close to someone for the fear of them going away. I hope that this makes her realize that she is able to be devoted to another person.

It looks to me that Helena has become a Girl Toy like the ones she used to have around when she was rich. It seems to me that this gal is a money addict more than anything.

I knew the Max stuff would begin to turn ugly at work. *sigh* It is so sad that people can't just let people be who they are and not be so hateful about things. I have a feeling that going home as Max will cause more drama and trauma with his family than not going to the funeral ever could. It sucks because he obviously needs it for his own closure about his mothers death. I just wish for him that he'd just go quietly after the big family funeral and just see his mom that way but then I suppose that would be a cop out since it's not HIS problem but his family's closed mindedness which will likely be the issue. That new assistant seems so sweet and good for him. I hope he finds love with her.

LOVED the use of real life directors in this ep as well!

I really like Tasha & Alice together, I hope that it will continue on good terms for the rest of the season. I loved how Tasha was able to point out that Papi was smitten over someone just by the look on her face.

Bette & Jodi: It's gonna be a disaster

Tina & Jenny: It was quite fun to watch their various meetings because as long as Jenny is around, nothing is normal

Helena: Is she whipped? At first I thought it was for the money, then I thought it was for the attention, but if she's doing errands and being acceptant of not getting a cut then maybe she really is sprung.

Shane: She says she's nothing like her father but I hope that she knows she's nothing like him. She was great to Shay and I hope she has changed for the better for good.

Best Scene: Alice & Shane spray painting Shane's billboard

Another really good episode.
I agree with the person who mentioned about the weak portrayal of men on the show, which is why I loved that scene with Leonard (yes Leonard blog person!! :D) on the bed, with them all giving him advice. He wasn't an idiot or a pig, just a confused man. Bruce Davidson is a good actor too. They manage to get great guest stars. Gary Marshall and Lawrence Bender in this ep too.
Bette/Jodi are kind of cute, but I'm not rooting for them long term. Not after last week's Bette/Tina tease!

Thought they had done the Shane as a parent story long enough, although I was sad for her.
I really really hated Max last year, but they've done a great job with the character this year. Poor Max, losing his mother, but them not wanting him home for the funeral.

Nice to see Marina back, but a bit of a waste. I bet she filmed her scenes for ep 1 and this all in one visit.
