February 25, 2007: And the "O" Goes To...
Steamy, steamy night tonight! We haven't had an episode like that in quite a while. *fanning myself off*
Now then.
"Oh, Sounder, am I going to burn in hell?"
Uh... yes, Jenny, you are.
Jenny's even more obnoxious as a hot Hollywood commodity now. I love how Bette was able to impress Jenny's agents on behalf of Tina, and I also enjoyed seeing Tina's humanity return to the story. I really felt for her, and found the opening scene between she and Bette to be particularly sensitive and beautiful. That's the Tina I always liked, and I hope that they'll continue moving her into a softer, more sympathetic direction throughout the remainder of the season.
It seems that our new "dragon lady" is Cathryn. It feels like she's the person that Helena used to be, and I fear that her influence on Helena is dangerous. I couldn't believe it that Cathryn was able to talk Helena into canceling her "date" with the kids. Even back when Helena was "the" official ice queen of the L Word, she loved her kids more than life and would stop at nothing to spend time with them. Seeing the way Cathryn has influenced Helena is making me a bit uncomfortable.... I also wonder what Cathryn's real plans with Helena are? There's something about her that doesn't feel right, and I mean that beyond the B-word. It feels like she's trying to do something to Helena, but I can't figure out what....
I really love the dynamic between Tasha and Alice concerning their views on the war, and that they've been talking it through and discussing valid points for both perspectives. I also think it's great that even with their differences, they are continuing to take their relationship to the next level. I loved Alice's response when Tasha said, "Well, then what the eff am I doing here?" Classic.
I was also way into Papi and Kit's dance tonight, and smiled when Papi took care of Kit, treating her like a real lady, after she'd done a bit too much to get her mind off Angus. And Kit's reaction the next morning, “You mean I didn't make the effin chart?!” Hilarious. I do wish that Kit hadn't gone off on Angus on stage, though. Why would she let him sabotage her moment, her big CD release? That sucked. I wish she'd confronted him either before or after the performance.
Jodi and Bette... do you think they'll try to work it out? Or do you think Bette and Tina will get back together because of Bette's loyalty and predisposition to monogamy?
I was devastated to see Shane's dad show up (even though I think Eric Roberts is mad hot)! If he takes Shay away, I don't know that Shane will recover from that. And it'll only teach her that it's not worth it to commit yourself to somebody... not even family.
I missed Phyllis.

I agree: I was surprised that Kit went off on Angus during the CD party.
Helena will find herself in a huge mess if she doesn't break away from Cathryn.
Like in previous seasons, Jenny is getting on my nerves. I have a religious question: I didn't think Jews believed in an afterlife. In the beginning of the episode, why would she say she's going to hell for her actions?
No, no, no... Bette and Tina shouldn't get back together.
Papi.... she's so sexy. I would have loved to see her hook up with Carmen.
That would suck if Shane loses "custody" of Shay.
Nah, I'm glad Phyllis didn't show up. She's become to clingy to Alice. Next week should be interesting with her (ex) husband showing up at Alice's door.

Hi! I agree with both of you! And yes, Eric Roberts is so yummy! It truly would have been way cooler for Kit to complete her "bareback" song and then rip Angus a new one right after - in private - and then we could watch him hang his head and walk away. At first when Bette got up, I thought she was going to go to the microphone and make people think that was part of the act or something - anything to smooth it over. The coming attractions next week showed Jodi talking to a blonde - it looked like Tina to me.
Catherine/Helena - maybe the "hint" they are giving is us that Catherine had lunch with Helena's mom a few weeks back? Maybe the mom is behind this to test integrity from her daughter or honesty, or who knows what?
Great blogs! Diana

All I could think of when Shane saw her father was "No, no, no...". I keep hoping for some small smidgen of happiness for Shane and the writers keep dangling it then taking it away. From the previews for next week, it appears that she is going to lose Shay and it is going to devastate her. She finally finds some purpose to her life and then bam - it's gone. I guess this is just the nature of drama - a happy Shane is less interesting than a Shane in distress but it is really heart breaking to see.

A much better episode than last week. Yes, nice to see Tina more like her old human self rather than the horrible caricature she's become lately. I like Tina/Bette, but there would be a looooong way to go if they consider putting them back together. Not sure if Bette has a long term future with Jodi.
Agree totally on Catherine - she is not good for Helena at all, and I think she will drop her in trouble big time. Helena needs to stand up to her about her kids!
Tasha and Alice are a cute couple, but The L Word shouldn't try to explore the politics of the Iraq war IMO. This is a sexy soap, not The West Wing!

This was indeed a steamy episode.
-A Bette/Tina reunion? I'm on the fence about that. I liked them 2gether but their fall-out was pretty ugly.
-The dance between Papi & Kit was so sexy, and I really appreciated Papi showing Kit a good time, though I noticed Kit drinking a little too much; that can't be good.
-I wonder how long til Max and his assistant hook up. I think it'll be good for him.
-I absolutely agree with every one else, Cathryn has some sort of devious plan, you can see it in her eyes. Nice to see Helena's kids though.
-And I know I'm all alone when I say this but I so love Jenny, I do understand why everyone hates her but not me. I love how she has an excuse for everything, like putting Bette in her place last night, no way Bette hires Jenny as a teacher. Jenny thinks about herself first and always wants it her way. She's just like ME!!

No one seems to recall that Kit is a recovering ALCOHOLIC! Papi is the only one of the group (besides Tasha) who wouldn't know this fact, hence Kit's decision to leave with her and not one of her longtime pals. That and she wanted to make the chart of course!
Overall a GREAT episode!

Just curious: has a male on this show ever been cast in a decent light? Like EVER??

Oh no, don't get me wrong. The b**** is gonna burn in hell, but I LOVE her. I love that character as much as I hate her! All because I just really enjoy watching Mia Kirshner and what she brings to this fascinatingly complicated character.
Yeah, I AM a little afraid of Kit picking up the booze again... I hope that it was just a one-off thing to help her initially cope, but I also know how alcoholism works, so... eesh. I'm a little afraid to see how this Angus thing will continue to affect Kit.
I feel the same way about wishing the writers would let Shane be happy.

Hmmm.... now that you mention it, um.......... I personally can't remember any positive male characters.
Let's see...if you think about it, Max's boss could be considered a good male character. He treats Max well and there wasn't any fallout after Max went to him about being discriminated against when he applied for a job as Moira.
There was also that cool guy at Max's job who told Max that his brother's gay and he's "cool with it." But that was just a one-off character. As far as major roles, I can't recall any.
All of Carmen's brothers were cool, though. But they were only minor characters.

I 1st noticed last week when the first thing Kit did after she called Angus was take a drink in her office and the first thing Kit does after cussing at Angus was.. grab the bottle from her office.

The lack of ordinary decent men and of heterosexuals for that matter has always been a failing. OK, it doesn't balance the cliched gay characters in just about every other show! I actually liked Tim in S1(Daniel in Ugly Betty). He was the last decent straight male on the show I think. (Shane's dad - bastard, Henry - stole Tina, Angus - cheating on Kit.) Of course there is always Bette's long suffering assistant James. Hope she pays well cos that's an awful job, dealing with her moods.

At least the show rebound from last week. As for missing Phyliss, I'm hoping that was sarcasm. She's such a characture, which this show for "breaking stereotypes" or whatever does very well.
My biggest beef with Tina is that Laurel Holloman can't act. Jenny is still crazy, but no carnival scenes is no carnival scenes (I was almost scared at the begginning).
So they finally made Kit drink. Was it question as to if she would fall off the wagon sometime in the show? Can't they just show a strong woman who doesn't fall off the wagon?
As for Eric Roberts being hot, there is a reason I watch the L word in the first place.

I agree with you on the Shane thing. She already tries to not get attached and this would just make things worse.

Manda, I guess I didn't realize it until you mentioned it: Laurel Holloman's acting. Sometimes it does seem as if it takes a lot of effort to do her role. I still like her character, though.
