February 11, 2007: For Your Consideration
I am absolutely floored by tonight's L Word. How floored? Well... let's just say that if I were one of the show's "Powers That Be," this would be the episode I'd send out to the Hollywood Foreign Press (Golden Globes)and ATAS (Emmy Awards) members.
From the opening "real time" sequence with all of the different phone calls and the editing with the various split screens, to the amazing music, to the juxtaposition between Papi's poker lessons and Jenny's mind games. Brilliant, subtle and absolutely brilliant... a stunning episode that I could easily watch over and over again.
I'm really pleased that Bette wound up talking to Angus about Hazel and Kit... just like I said I would do if I were in her shoes, eh? And see? It did get him shaking in his boots and got him to decide what to do pretty damn quick. Go, Bette!
One thing I'm not so sure about is Bette's insistence that Angelica attend an Ivy League pre-school. Pre-school? Ivy League pre-school? Do you think she's being overly selective at this point in Angelica's life, or do you think she's right? I'm not sure what I think....
It was sad to see Jodi's confession of not liking kids sort of shatter Bette's hopes of a relationship with her, but at least she was honest. It looks like Bette's giving her another chance, but the previews for next week indicate that Jodi may be a bit too much of a wild child for Bette. We shall see. I do like them together. A lot.
I really like Tosha. There's just something so cool and sexy about her; I can see why Alice would be drawn to her, even though they seem like such polar opposites. Alice (once again) got the biggest laugh out of me from the obscenities that ensued when she got hit in the eye! (I would recap it, but as open and free as TV Guide allows me to be, we still have to keep it a "general audiences" kind of blog.)
Max! Max dropped the biggest, coolest bomb tonight, didn't he? And then they promptly left us hanging! So does this mean that Max just "came out" to the boss, or what's going on, here? If he did come out, what a brave and cool way to do it! That was amazing. I'm so curious to see what happens next with Max's ever-evolving character arc.
But the biggest bomb of the night for me was Helena Peabody's bad hand. Bloody "L," is Helena about to pretty much become a prostitute to pay off the $50K? And did she basically get set up? Talk about a wild card! I'm really, really intrigued and scared for her right now.
Another big question mark is Jenny. Do you think she'll try to continue pursuing the vet? I guess that not all of it was a total game to her, and that she really was starting to fall for her... which makes me think that Jenny won't give up on her, because that's just so Jenny. Your thoughts?
What an episode. My head is still spinning after this one.

This was a great episode, Angela Robinson is a God. There were so many great moments just in the first 12 min with all the phone calls. Leisha Hailey pulls every episode together, the show could never survive without her

I completely agree one of my (hands down) favorite episodes to date! Alice is such a great comic relief and always has the best lines~ My g/f and I were shocked with the whole Max soon to be "confession" will he or won't he come out to his boss? I do like that we were left hanging
..Its so typical of the L word writers and why I love this show. Nothing and I mean nothing shocks me anymore BTW OMG how HOT did Helena look in that black suit?? Amazing she can be my English muffin anytime!! LOL

Wow I agree, great episode. I watched the beginning part a few times since I had it on DVR. It was fantastic. Alice has been at her best this week and last, she has had the best lines. And I used to hate the Max storyline, but I really like it this season. I even like the Jenny storyline this season, even tho she is being evil

I am really pleased to see how Max is evolving into such a great character. How great of him to go to his boss and of course, he will have to "Out" himself now to explain what he meant by the allegations. I just hope that Max doesn't lose his sweet job in the long run. I wonder what California laws are like regarding that sort of firing.
Alice is my favorite...hands down! I wonder if "Don't ask, Don't tell" will come up with the new gal.
I was surprised that the Jenny writing about them article blew over so fast.
I'm glad that Jenny got busted and as a result she felt like a fool and felt guilty. Hopefully, this will make her realize how off the wall she is and try to get her self together.
I loved how Shane left her "old life" to go sit in the safety of a "normal life" and hang out with Sheay's friend's mom. I wonder if she'll really cut her hair. I hope so. heh
I don't even care about the Bette thing but I am glad she confronted Angus and I agree that she shouldn't tell Kit. I did laugh when her date admitted to not liking kids. I know a lot of people like her so it amused me.

Great episode, and a lovely recap too! Quite right, this was a real quality ep in writing, directing (Angela Robinson is brilliant) and also the acting.
After pretty much hating Max last year, I find his storyline really interesting this year. Not sure if Bette and Jodi have a great future after Jodi's revelation. Did they leap into bed too soon?? Pity poor Tina - great ep for everyone else but her. One screaming scene and that's it! I love Helena, but she sure is an idiot! Couldn't we ALL see that sting coming. S4 is turning out to be a great season.

No kidding, fabiana! She is SO gorgeous. That's why I'm enjoying it that she's now funny and cute in personality, rather than SUCH a "b word." Her humor makes her even more gorgeous now!

This was brilliant in the way season one was. The phone tree was hilarious and had the best lines:
- I really think we should all be there to, like, support your underwear. - Some lesbians, you know what, you have to break up with them more than once. - I can't go, because I'll be dead, because I will have killed myself.
I'm so glad that the nanny-bot has left our screens. However, I get the feeling that Kit will find out accidentally from Tina (who might ask Kit how they're working things out), which will cause a rift between Kit and Bette. Plus, it'll drag up Tina and Bette's past again, and anything could happen there.
I really like the vet but I don't think she'll want anything to do with Jenny. Considering her past, she probably doesn't open up to people that easily, so Jenny's abuse of her trust would have hurt her deeply.
I think that Jodi is what Bette needs at the moment, but if someone doesn't like kids, they can't suddenly flick a switch and change their mind. I think it'll become more of a problem later, because at the end of the day, Angelica is so important to Bette.
