Episode Recap: LGB Tease

WeLcome back, everyone!

I thought this was a very strong season premiere, how about you? In particular, I loved the humor... it feels like with every season, as the cast chemistry and characters continue to evolve, the sense of humor gets more and more wicked-delicious.

The biggest surprise for me tonight was how much I now love Jenny. I think it's great that the writers have decided to embrace her bitchiness to the fullest and make her into a "Hollywood Diva," rather than a self-loathing masochistic whiner. I would much rather enjoy despising Jenny, and this new version of her feels like that guilty pleasure, "love to hate" soap opera vixen. I think I can roll with this... and it looks like Mia Kirshner is having a blast with this new take on her character, too. So many of the scenes between her and the other girls, in particular, Tina, were just fantastic, because they were so over-the-top. May as well make her operatically bitchy, because at least we can have fun with that! I was always fascinated by her character, but... she was becoming exhausting... now her maniacal self-absorption is just hilarious and fun to watch.

Helena! Oh my Goddess. Did you think she'd wind up in prison? I don't really know what I'd expected to happen, but definitely not to see her in the LA jail system. Yeesh. "Don't drop the soap," indeed. Loved the scene in which Alice, Tina and Shane were giving her "prison survival" advice. I giggled when Shane was hitting on some of the inmates, too. Heh. How do you think Helena is going to do in prison? Will it bring out the shark, or will she wind up getting eaten alive? We know she's got a very vicious survivalist inside of her... will it reemerge and save her, or will she just keep waiting for mum's money to save her?

Hot, hot scene between Jodi and Bette. At first, I got a little bit peeved at Jodi for accusing Bette of trying to control her, just because Bette set a nice table for her in the loft... I thought she was looking too far into it... or was she? The way that she decided to "take control" of the situation was... a uh... welcome digression. ;) So... will this relationship turn into a constant battle for control between the two? Can Bette handle a constant power-exchange type of dynamic, or will she wind up going back to the family and comfort of Tina?

Speaking of family, that little Angelica is looking so adorable. Also, I loved Kit's hair!

Looks like Phyllis is enjoying her new life out of the closet, but may not be ready for monogamy... I like her and Joyce together, but the writers will have so much more fun with Cybill Shepherd by putting Phyllis back out into the dating scene.

The ending scene with Tasha and Alice was such a relief, and so romantic! Also a very hot way to keep us hanging... do you think that Tasha has now gone A.W.O.L.?

And of course, the burning question of the night: do you think that Page committed the arson at Shane's business?

I have to disagree with you on Jenny. I hate her so much, I cringe through every scene she's in hoping it'll end soon. They've made her character so unlikable that I don't know if she can ever be saved.

I do have to agree about Jodi being too hard on Bette. I get that you don't like her being controlling, but give the girl a break, she's trying so hard. I actually don't like the two of them together, I'm hoping for a reconciliation between Bette and Tina, but I hope that they make Jodi a little more likable if they're going to keep her around for the long run.

As for the fire, I bet her brother did it. Not sure why I think that, but I do.

I thought tonights premiere was pretty good but I still hate Jenny as much as I did last year - and the year before and the year before. I at least want someone to tell her to her face what a crazy b*tch she is. Didn't the show end last year with her floating out in the middle of the ocean? Too bad she didn't just get eaten by sharks. And based on that I think I wanted more story of what happened to everyone between the last show and tonights. I am sure some of it will get explained during the course of this season.

I have always wanted Bette and Tina to get back together. I think they make a good couple and it is obvious they both still have feelings for each other. If they don't get them back together I am not sure I want to see Bette stay with Jodi. I mean was it that big of a deal Bette fixed the table? It seems like the whole relationship has been a chore. If you have to work this hard when the relationship is just starting out it might not be the best thing. Surely Bette is smart enough to see that.

I am also loving Tasha and Alison together. At first I wasn't sure they "matched" but they are so good together. I really like the person playing Tasha so I hope she is on regular again this season. (I know she is in the credits so that means she probably is)

And onto the fire. I think is is going to be Paiges son that started the fire. Kristanna Loken isn't back this season from what I understand so I can't imagine they would create a story line including her. I don't think the fire story will go anywhere - it will just cause (or force) Shane to get into something new or start a new business.

It is Alice not Alison and I do like her and Tasha together. I really hate Jenny. I wish she would fall off a cliff. And her assistant took way too long to quit. I also want Tina and Bette to get back together. Helena is too funny in prison. I wonder how long she will be there. I guess they couldn't figure out what to do with Papi. I am glad the L Word is back.

UGH I couldn't disagree with you more on Jenny. I can see your point, but she's so far beyond soap opera vixen as far as I'm concerned. No redeeming qualities, and from what I could tell in previous seasons (and based on what they showed tonight) she's not even a good writer. I wish she was still out at sea.

I think Paige's son set the fire. He's pissed.

Shane and Alice are hysterical, and I love it when their characters are playing off of each other. The two of them, along with Tina, visiting Helena in prison was hilarious. It will be interesting to see how long Helena stays in prison, and how she handles being there.

I hope Tasha isn't AWOL. She doesn't strike me as someone who would do that though. There has to be a legit reason. Whatever it is, loved her reunion with Alice!

Should be an interesting season. Looking forward to it!

For those Jenny-haters, like me, hold on to your hats, it's going to be a wild ride for her this season.

I think the psycho-dyke is going to get a healthy dose of her own obsessive medicine in the form of her new assistant, introduced in episode 2.

Don't give up on the Planet patrons just yet.

um, it's Alice, not Alison...how long have you been watching this show? *GULP* Since Season Two! :( I've been fighting a horrible flu all weekend... I was very, very out of it last night. Consider that error fixed, and thanks for the save, Nikkles. ;)

Going to have to side with the anti-Jenny camp. I too enjoy a snarky character and I was amused by the Jenny - Tina joust but her treatment of her assistant just really irritated me to no end. Talking back to power (or to equals) is one thing, degrading a subordinate is just not cool (although from all I have heard of Hollywood it is dead on). And she really isn't cleverly snarky, just mean spirited.
I have really liked Shane since the season started (her and Alice are my favorites) but her behavior is just getting old. How about a little self knowledge there Shane - you know you are incapable of a committed relationship so don't keep getting involved only to leave a string of good women (I am stilled pissed about what she did to Carmen). Looks like she paid a high price for the last dump job.

I'm an opera singer, so it's in my nature to love really over-the-top bad people in my entertainment... I'll enjoy Jenny for a while, then lament with you all when it starts getting old. If it's true that her assistant is going to dish it back this season, I'm looking forward to the juicy twists and turns in Jenny's twisted story arc.

Also, sorry you guys, about calling Alice ALISON. She's my FAVORITE CHARACTER! I've been very down-and-out with a bad, bad, [stomach] flu all weekend, so I was all hopped up on saltines last night when I wrote this entry... I almost waited to write it, but I didn't wanna let my L-Community down.

Oops - I called her Alison too. It stuck in my head after reading the post. We all make mistakes so its no biggie really Jeannine. Take it easy - get plenty of rest so you are ready for next week :)

Can someone refresh my memory on Jenny? Didn't she try to kill herself one season?

Great season opener, and I'm with the recapper - love bitchy Jenny! She's totally insane, but it makes her a lot of fun to watch. Just wouldn't want to know anyone remotely like her! How long before Tina or Bette slaps her? Soon I hope!

I think they are going to play with the Bette/Tina/Jodi thing this year. Bette is looking quite smitten, but she seemed awfully interested in Tina's lovelife still. Just her controlling nature? Yes, Jodi was quite hard on Bette, but I like that they have made her quite prickly and difficult. And Bette IS a control freak! However, Jennifer Beals gets more gorgeous every day! She's much more attractive now than in Flashdance IMO.
Helena is prison is hilarious! Rachel Shelley is great at the comedy.

I'm not a fan of Shane/Paige, but I like Kristanna Lokken. However, she never seemed a great fit for the show, and apparently didn't get on too great with the girls.
Love Tasha - Rose Rollins is beautiful, but the military dramas have never been great on the show, although I hear than have Kelly McGillis coming in as a high ranking army official. Such great cast this show attracts - great roles for mature actresses, so I guess they love it.
Looking forward to the rest of the season.

Hate Hate Hate Jenny, but will Love Love Love it when someone finally takes her down.

I am so not into Jodi and Bette together. It just seems like this relationship is so very difficult and unfulfilling (well except for the sex). It just dosn't seem worth it. I want Tina and Bette to be together. They represented the "core" lesbian family to me, and I was heartbroken when Tina decided to "go straight" and leave Bette. Hopefully if/when they do get back together they will have learned from their past mistakes; unlike Shane, my goodness, can't she "keep it in her pants?" - for crying out loud! At least I'm glad it happened before they signed the lease on the apartment! As to who set the fire? Good question, I hadn't even thought of Paige's son. Question: how could a boy that young have access to gas to start the fire, with no transportation to and from....I myself would guess Paige herself did the dirty deed.

Phyllis is a hoot! I can see why she doesn't want to "U-haul" with Joyce, things are really going way to fast and Joyce is quite the Alpha lesbian. Phyllis does not want to jump right into another 27 year relationship with an Alpha male or female.

Helena in prison - oh the comic possibilities. I hope she gets herself a daddy to take care of her as I don't see her as the physical type and I suppose in prison you have to literally fight to stay alive.

I'm so glad we're back for a new season. So much fun!!!
