June 4, 2007: Endgame

Before the second season of Kyle XY premieres next Monday, June 11, here's a refresher of where we left off. I spent last weekend watching Season 1 on DVD (available at Amazon), and the special extended-cut version of the DVD has some differences, but I think it works better.

At the start of the last episode, Kyle's in the hospital recovering from his seizure on the merry-go-round, which befell him while straining to hear Declan and Charlie’s conversation. While he is in the hospital, we find out that Kyle supposedly disappeared five years earlier on his way to school. He was living in Hong Kong at that time. We also find out that the supposed reason that Kyle has no belly button is because as a child he had several operations to reposition his organs, and as a result, he was left without a belly button.

Does anyone else find this hard to believe? First, if they really did that type of surgery, there would be visible scars on his skin that a trained eye, like a doctor, would be able to detect. Second, the MRI they gave Kyle should have detected internal scarring as his organs were repositioned. I don’t know why this information from the Petersons (Kyle’s supposed parents) did not raise a red flag in Nicole's and Stephen’s minds — it did for me.

Once Kyle is home, the kids want to get to the church so they can attend the service for Amanda’s confirmation. Now, I am not Catholic, so correct me if I am wrong, but isn’t a child’s confirmation usually in their early teens, around 13 or 14. I take these kids to all be in their mid-teens, between 15 and 17. This just seemed out of place.

I did find it interesting that Kyle always seems to notice the contradictions of the other people around him. In this case, he notices Charlie sitting with Amanda’s mom but flirting with his eyes/body language with Hilary.

Later Kyle is in need of some advice and guidance, so he heads back to the church, and while he is sitting there, someone just comes over and sits down next to him to give him some. They never really show this person except in profile. But he is definitely not a priest. I am wondering if this person is Adam Bailyn. As Kyle leaves the church, he is kidnapped by Foss and taken back to the woods to jar his memory. He does start to remember during his ride to the woods. It looks like Kyle is lying across the back seat of a car. While in the woods, someone tries to kill both Kyle and Foss. They make a run for it, and then Kyle gets Foss to tell him how he ended up in the woods. At this point Foss reveals that Kyle came from some sort of pod and was in fact only born two months earlier. This just raises more questions in Kyle’s mind. Foss also tells Kyle that as long as Kyle stays with the Tragers, he is putting them all in danger.

If Foss had Kyle, even though he was shot in the arm, why did he send/take Kyle back to the Tragers? He could have just as easily taken him to the safe house.

When Kyle gets back to the Tragers', he announces his decision to go with the Petersons. We see Steven and Nicole packing Kyle’s things, Josh running away because he can’t cope, and Declan and Lori looking depressed. (While we are on the subject of Lori, doesn’t she look like Stockard Channing?) It is interesting that Kyle is actually telling a lie, after stating in an earlier episode that lying is bad and that he should not do it.

Everyone gathers outside to say goodbye to Kyle. Once they come back in the house, Stephen finds that Kyle left him a message on his computer. When he follows the instructions, the whole house is filled with music, and all the computer screens/TVs display the pictures that Kyle has drawn of the Tragers. This pretty much pushes all the Tragers over the edge and you start to see their brave facades start to crumble.

Meanwhile the Petersons are driving Kyle somewhere. While in the car, Kyle compliments them on their ability to lie. He also sheds a tear as he remembers more about his conversation with Foss in the woods.

Finally, the Petersons drop Kyle in front of some gated house. The gate opens and Kyle enters. He approaches a man that is sitting by a pond. The man introduces himself as Adam Bailyn and mentions that it is nice to see Kyle again. (So, Adam was the man in the church!) Kyle has lots of questions for Adam and asks him to start at the beginning.

And this is where Season 1 ended.

So, is everyone all set for the start of Season 2? I can tell you I already watched the season premiere about three weeks ago. The new season is shaping up to be fantastic with one major new character: Jessi XX. The premiere answers a lot of lingering questions and gives us a whole bunch of new ones to ponder.

Use our Online Video Guide to catch, this past Monday's episode or other Kyle XY videos.

Cheers.

Regarding the confirmation, I know the girl mentioned somewhere along the line that due to her father's death, she never finished the process to get confirmed with the other kids her age, so she was doing it a year (or so) late.

Nice recap, Marc! I so can't wait for season 2. What a fun little gem this show is.

My question about Jessie, how the heck does the "company" lose yet ANOTHER one of thier creations? Do they purposely let her out of the compound for some reason? I guess we'll find out.

Hey gang, I'm just now starting to watch Season 1 of Kyle XY and I was lucky enough to have ABC Family send me a prize pack to give away so I'm trying to find some Kyle XY fans to enter. I promise I'm not scamming you or trying to spam you or anything. I'm just a TV Blogger who's running a contest.

Can't wait to see how Season 1 ends (hope to finish before Sunday nights premiere)!!!

You didn't mention the scary resemblance between Adam and Kyle. I'm sure that is important to the answers of who Kyle is. I'm guess Adam is number one and Kyle is number 12 clone something or other.

Re: confirmation. Back in the day, I was confirmed in the 8th grade just before graduation from junior high. I guess now-a-days, the tendency is for kids to be confirmed at an older age so there is more preparation and they are more mature to make the decision. I remember we had over 2 years preparation for confirmation and I attended a catholic school. So, it makes sense that the earliest a child gets confirmed is the 10th grade.

BTW, I just love this show!!

Thanks for the update blueree and Marc. Oh and please come enter the contest, even commenting about the show will enter you. I just got the posters in the mail and they are full size movie posters. 3 designs in all. One of the white background/half face Matt Dallas and all it says is "He is Not Alone", one with Kyle and that chick, and one of the creepy bellybutton-less torso with no words. Great shot!

I don't think I'll make it through the season before Monday night but believe me, I'm doing my best!

Thanks for the recap Marc. I had forgotten a good deal of the final episode last season!

I believe Foss did not bring Kyle directly to the safe house for a couple of reasons. One, he is trying to operate under the radar and not create unnecessary waves. It seemed more seamless and natural for him to decide to go with his "parents." Also, it seemed to me that Foss was just letting him make his own decision about his (and possibly the Trager family's) fate. Just my random thoughts. :)

I hope the Foss character lives through all of this. I absolutely love Nicholas Lea.

Thanks for providing the start date of the new episodes. It seems like it has been a VERY long time since the last one!

Marc,

Thanks for blogging, and the great recap. Love this show. Any chance ABC is running a few episodes from the first season since I don't get ABC Family?

CountryQueen, I don't think ABC is planning on airing any of the 1st seasons episodes. But all is not lost, you can use the TVG Online Video Guide to find episodes, just go here: http://video.tvguide.com/Shows/Kyle+XY. We have 12 videos available.

I know that ABC is planning on airing the season premiere on June 15 at 8pm, and I think it is on SciFi on the 15th as well, but at 7pm.

If memory services, Kyle was rebroadcast on Friday's last year on SciFi.

Mine was 16 (1987)

It is interesting that Kyle is actually telling a lie, after stating in an earlier episode that lying is bad and that he should not do

Steven also explained the reason TO tell a white lie, namely to 'protect' someone in some way.

THEORY ALERT I've been saying from the start: He's a biologically engineered clone.
