November 7, 2006: Que Sera Sera

While the opening joke in tonight's show left me with the distinct feeling that I was watching a performance in an acting class, it did lead into a clever entrance for the show's main patient: George, a 650-pound comatose man thought to be dead and who, while in the process of being cut out of his apartment by a crew of wisecracking firemen, involuntarily alerts them to his true status with a built-in alarm.

Quick to champion the cause of the underdog, Cameron immediately empathized with the now-conscious George; however, Chase could not see past George's excess flesh in order to treat him. As a matter of fact, he disappeared from the case. What's up with that? We know Chase has issues. I just want to know what they are.

Occasionally we get a clue that there is something bubbling under the surface with him, and I patiently wait for the big reveal with the faith of a viewer who just knows we're going to get that powerhouse episode that brings all of Chase's disparate parts together. I'm still waiting. His blasé attitude toward George was effective in spotlighting the issue of standard of care as well as highlighting discrimination against the obese. In its usual way, the show used humor to emphasize the point — with fat jokes from House, broken MRIs, flatulence and more. The twist in this story was that George's problem had nothing to do with his weight. Instead, he was suffering from undiagnosed and terminal lung cancer.

The other case in this episode concerned House's legal woes. Honestly, if I were a part of this fictional world, nothing would annoy me more than House's attitude toward his situation. I wanted to shake him when he threw away the lawyer's information that Cuddy supplied and when he blew off Wilson's advice to get a good lawyer. It took losing his stash of Vicodin to get House to take action. Let's hope Kadeem Hardison, House's new lawyer, is up to the task of dealing with his new client as well as getting the charges dropped.

Detective Tritter is very creepy. David Morse is doing such a fantastic job in the role that, as I watched the show, I asked myself why Tritter isn't embarrassed that he's taken things this far. He's crossed over into harassment in my book, and now he just looks like an ass. He pops up at the hospital; he searches House's home and interrogates Wilson. It's clear that he's not willing to let this go, and I'm torn on how this situation will affect Wilson. I'm sad that he will be drawn into this mess by covering up the forged signatures on his prescriptions, but then I can't wait for the ensuing drama. Let me take a moment to appreciate Wilson or, better yet, his portrayer, Robert Sean Leonard. His subtle and varied performance of the beleaguered best friend is spectacular, and he manages to consistently steal the scene from the show's front man.

Some odds and ends: House spilled the beans on Cuddy's sperm hunt and then covered it up oh so smoothly. How long before Foreman throws his hat in the babydaddy ring?

I very much enjoyed Pruitt Taylor Vince as George, and kudos to the costume and makeup artists who had me looking up pictures of Vince to see if he was wearing a fat suit. Not only did he realistically look like he weighed 650 pounds, but he created a multilayered, likable character who proved in 60 minutes that there was more to him than met the eye. My heart broke at his response to his diagnosis: "I never smoked. C'est la vie."

Clearly things are going to get worse for House before they get better. But if the episodes continue to be of this caliber, then I say, let's keep this Tritter dude around for a while.

I can't figure out why I'm so pissed at the detective when House is obviously not someone I'd be rooting for in real life. I chalk it up to the great writers and Hugh Laurie for presenting such an interesting anti-hero.

I don't like this Tritter guy. I find his presence very annoying. How many more episodes is he suppose to be in?

Wow! I don't think House believed that Tritter was going to take things this far. But, like any addict, once the fix in gone or in jeopardy, he sat up and took it all more seriously. Unfortunately, House is his own worst enemy, and he isn't doing much better for everyone else involved either. I felt scared for Wilson having to find out about his name being forged on his own prescription slips and having to do so right under Tritter's eye. He put himself and his career in a great deal of jeopardy by lying to Tritter. Now he's on the his radar screen as well. Whoever here said that they can't wait for the ensuing drama is right, there's going to be a huge brew ha ha between Wilson & House and rightly so.

I'm not sure what happened to Chase other than for one episode he was working in the neonatal intensive care unit for extra money, maybe he just decided to go back to that since he wasn't wanted by House back at the office. I also wonder what's up with him and his dislike of overweight people? He acted like this in another episode as well and I'd thought he'd maybe learned a lesson from that. What kind of Priest would he have made if he acts this way with overweight people? Oh, well, an explanation is coming at some point, I'm sure. This is leading up to something.

I think it was great that Cameron was able to look past George's appearance to be able to work with him and take care of him. I come from a family of overweight people (although not anywhere near to this extent), and let's just say that they've had some bad experiences with the attitudes of healthcare workers. It was also good to see her stand up and take her rightful share of the blame for the broken MRI table instead of letting House take the heat for it. House definitely didn't need anymore problems.

I don't know if anyone even thought about this, but couldn't the whole case against House be thrown out with the original arrest? As House stated, he wasn't speeding, so what was the real reason for the traffic stop? And why would a detective be making a routine traffic stop unless he was stalking House?

I just think that David Morse gets off playing these evil cops -- and he does it so well, because I'm disliking him more and more every minute he's on the screen

I really love this show. Episodes like this last one just reinforce that feeling for me. Tritter is treacherous. The vibes are bad. George was a heartbreaker. Just a show guys but tears came as he got the news. He so wanted to be just a happy fat guy but no one else seemed to want that for him. "Your sick George, and your fat, so you must be sick because your fat." I wonder how many obese people are like George's character? Other than being fat, they are otherwise in pretty good health but are seen as sick just because they are fat and all that ails them is because they are fat. A terrific episode and I hope Pruitt Taylor Vince gets at least an Emmy nom for this performance.

House was rude to Detective Tritter, but this guy is making this a personal vendetta. He's not only terrorizing House, but also Wilson. Who knows who else he'll go after. He's sadistic, and I'm sure, doesn't have a personal life. Could you imagine some woman with this guy? Det Tritter is making House look like a boy scout.

I also applaud Pruitt Taylor Vince's portrayal of a very obese man. He certainly humanized the character.

I enjoyed last night’s episode and I loved Cameron lying to Cuddy and drugging a patient. I think even House was impressed. I also loved the exchange between them at the end of the episode where House asked if she was fat as a child and that’s why she was so determined with George and her “I like damaged people” response. It was just great. I like this new assertive Cameron.

As for Chase I wondered where he went and what his issue with obese people is. I remember a girl (in I think it was Season 1) that was heavy and Chase clearly had an issue then. I just hope he is not the one giving Detective Tritter the inside scoop. It would be like the whole Vogler thing again.

I love the show HOUSE but think the man House is a terrible person who abuses everyone.....so I am loving that Tritter is giving him some of his own medicine. Hope he is around for a long time.

I haven't watched the whole show yet, but I did catch snippets. For one thing, and maybe I did miss something, but Twitter in all reality could not just barge into House's residence and then take those pills without a warrant if that's what he did. Maybe that's the key here when later on they go to court. Also, it's not that uncommon for a cop to dog someone, but it has to also be done legally or else......the cop's case is a goner. And as jopan said, Twitter originally stopped House for no reason. If House was more of a "do-gooder liberal", he could turn the tables on the cop for doing this; this also may come back to haunt Twitter...and save House.

Also, did anyone else catch when Cameron when to George's residence, her it registered with her that it resembled House's residence?

I disagree with you on this, MOanbo. If a person is that grossly obese, they are NOT "in pretty good health" and never will be. Being just 50lbs overweight (which the CDC and a lot of insurance companies categorize as being "grossly obese"!) can bring on very serious health problems so someone that weighs 650lbs is not healthy, regardless. The strain alone on the heart is mindboggling, not to mention other internal organs and your bones.

A wild guess: Chase was real fat at one time and it probably traumatized him forever and caused very negative repurcussions because of it. Or else someone who was fat did something to Chase to have him feel this way.
