January 30, 2007: One Day, One Room
I tried. I really did try to like this episode. Having narrowly escaped jail time due to Cuddy's perjured testimony, House is on clinic duty big time. He, of course, hates it. After a parade of uninteresting patients, most of which fear they have an STD but don't, House finds himself in close quarters with Eve (Katheryn Winnick), a chlamydia-ridden, pregnant rape victim. Feeling out of his league (and bored by this straightforward case), House tries to remove himself from the situation, but Eve won't let him go. And thus begins our quest to see House find a heart. Others may find it touching. I find it to be trite.
Eve wants to talk. About anything — the weather, maybe. House wants to disappear, as much from clinic duty as from this patient. Hiding out at the jogging park, a place Cuddy would never think to look, or even in an exam room with a paid-off patient, House avoids connecting with Eve — for to connect with Eve is to find oneself. Gah! I’m not much for cloying melodrama, of which this was textbook. Of course, Eve breaks through the tough exterior and gets just enough truth from the grizzled doc to move on from her own trauma.
But wait, there's more. Cameron's patient (played by Geoffrey Lewis), a homeless man with an inoperable cancerous mass in his lung, wants to be allowed to die as penance for the bad things he has done in his life. But really, he's just hoping someone will remember him. He found the right doctor in Cameron, who sat by his side and watched with puppy-dog eyes as he breathed his last breath. Then, sans gloves, she bathed his lifeless body in preparation for the afterworld. I can see the heartstrings, but I have no desire to tug at them.
As I said, I tried to enjoy the episode and the show did throw me a few bones. There was the patient (played by Roger Ainslie) whose nose suffered from athlete's foot. There was House trying to pass off his Vicodin as a breath mint. There was Cuddy trying to be tough with her "I kept you out of jail, I can put you back" threat that didn't have quite the effect she anticipated. There was the fact that Tritter was gone. So, yeah, there were some good points. See? I really did try.

I liked that it was different from the normal heal-a-mysterious-illness formula, but I did feel that some of the back-and-forth between House and Eve was ripped from a bumper sticker, to use House's words. It just didn't ring true at times.

This episode was so un-"House" like --- and not in a good way. I can understand the writers wanting to get away from the monotonous formula of patient is sick, wrong diagnosis, wrong diagnosis, House's right diagnosis, patient lives.. but to think up this poor excuse for an episode? Shame, shame.

I actually liked most of this episode. House was forced to actually care about someone for a reason other than a medical mystery. I didn't like the Cameron/homeless man scenes. It seemed too pat that he would find the one doctor who would care.

After the weeks off we've had from a new episode - I was very dissapointed in tonights show. I thought it was very boring. All I heard during the whole show was blah blah blah blah. The only major plus was that Tritter was gone!!! I wanted to see more of Foreman and Chase and of course Wilson. I can give or take on Cuddy and Cameron.

It looks like I'm in the minority but this was my favorite House episode so far. I really liked the departure from the tumor of the week format. I really liked House's patient. I could live without Cameron and her patient and House's scenes with Cuddy though. I loved the actress playing the rape patient and would like to see her again. I was disappointed that House convinced her to terminate her pregnancy. Part of what I liked about her was her strength and determination. Does House always have to win every argument?

I liked this episode. House was finally House again without all the Tritter drama. I loved how the guy with the roach in his ear was running around, and the guy at the pharmacy was like should I get a sedative, and House said no thanks I'm fine. I kinda missed the interaction of House and the clinic patients, mainly because it's true, some people are that cluelss. My sister used to work in an emergancy room and clinic, some of those patients House has had there in the clinic my sister has seen almost the same thngs.

I have to agree that tonight wasn't my favorite episode. Also, THANK THE LORD TRITTER IS GONE! YEAH! That story line dragged on for so long that I thought I was gonna break my TV cause I wanted him gone! I was disappointed in the whole "Big Secret" that was exposed last night. It wasn't all that great... It was good to see House back to himself... Sarcastic and unfeeling... Cause even though he connected with the rape victim, I don't think he gave all that much, if that makes sense to y'all. Cameron, those scenes didn't really keep my attention. I am waiting for House and Cuddy to get to the bottom of their "attraction/feelings", that will work for me. I think that will bring some excitment to the show with their chemistry. Anyhow... Until next week.

I didn't have to try at all. I liked it. I REALLY liked it. After weeks and weeks of House stubbornly refusing any and all help in his fight with Tritter, he finally let someone in-just a crack but she was in.
In the Tritter episodes, the writers took us through so many times where you just wanted to smack House for his dogged defiance over the Tritter incident only to then left the story to fizzle out with Cuddy lying to cover for House. It seemed like a cop-out (no pun intended). House needed some redemption and he needed to pay some measure the penitence Tritter so desperately wanted. This was it. I can go back to NOT feeling robbed. Sharing that information about himself was worse than rehab or jail for House. It cracked the facade that he desperately uses to protects himself. I was moved by it.
I wasn't surprised that it was his father that abused him-that was obvious from the episode where his parents came to town but it did open up some interesting areas of insight into House's personality. He wasn't born a misanthrope, he was molded into becoming one.
The Cameron/Bum storyline was rather lame and they should have used the the opportunity to show more about Chase. He's becoming less and less sympathetic all the time. We needed to see a crack in his walls as well. But over all it was another fine performance from the cast that DESERVES all the accolades that lesser quality shows like DH, Heroes, and Grey have constantly and undeservedly placed upon them.

I really did not like this episode. I found it really slow and boring. I get that we need to see a "softer" side of House every now and then, but this dragged. I found myself fast forwarding a lot! I too am glad to see Tritter gone - let's get back to business as usual for the team!

I very seldom watch House because it is not entertaining to see doctors experiment on patients (reminds me of Nazi doctors experimenting on concentration camp victims). My daughter watches this show and I was in the room. I liked this episode because it was different from all the others. There was no formula and House (or his crew) did not ineptly try various failed procedures. Someone finally cracked his pseudo-tough exterior shell!

This was not one of my favorite episodes but some of it was funny. I enjoyed House asking everyone what to do. Their opposing answers gave me a chuckle. They did not really know what to do anymore than House did. I also liked getting that information about his father. It does account for a lot of his reactions.

Decent episode.
Not great, but I've seen worse (Tritter).
Best line of the night belonged to Wilson: Wait a minute, am I supposed to be you, I dont want to be you."
I also enjoyed Katherine Winnick...plus she's hot.

Hated. This. Episode. Eve really bothered me with her big eyes and her "I don't knows". That whole plotline was just really contrived; a converation about God with a student of religion? Wha? Couldn't find some random African bacteria this week? Bring back the House formula, please!!

Sorry, but I hated it. t was probably the worst episode in a long time.
What kind of hospital would allow a doctor to continue to work ther if he offers money to patients to leave? Or still takes drugs? And the whole rape patient storyline seemed just a horribly contrived excuse to let the viewers in on a secret House has of his own. Well, I could have thought of a lot more believable ways to get House's secret out that would have been better than this storyline.
And the dying patient storyline was ridiculous in the fact that no hospital would allow someone who was homeless and dying to have a private room. I am not being heartless here, just realistic.
I think it's time to bring someone like Vogler back to kick this complacent, money wasting, unrealistic hospital under some control.
This episode was an insult to viewers.
