May 29, 2007: It's Tuesday

It wasn't the most exciting finale I've ever seen. It was subtle yet managed to surprise with a twist: House was left with no ducklings on his payroll. But even that move raised only my eyebrow and not my heart rate — as, say, last season's finale did.

First of all, House fired Chase. Just when I started to like him. I blame Wilson. He's always buzzing in House's ear about this or that. Now it's about House and his fear of change. Next thing you know Chase has no job. Nice work, James.

Then there was Marina (Mercedes Renard) and her mysterious illness. Roiling seas aside, Esteban (Omar Avila)and Marina's desperate voyage from Cuba to New Jersey for treatment at the hands of Princeton-Plainsboro's foremost diagnostician resulted in a case that flatlined pretty quickly. After all the focus on losing Marina's medical records at sea, this didn't have an impact on her treatment. Then Esteban, the husband shown to be extremely concerned about the love of his life, would only raise a little hell (not a lot) when he thought her doctor was not doing as much as possible for his wife. I guess Esteban was tired from all that capsizing business.... The drama surrounding this couple was superficially touching. That scene of poor Esteban saying goodbye to his doomed wife was supposed to get you right there, but it was just a scene with a guy and his dying wife. We do have to thank Marina (and her unprecedented third heart artery) for the tip about coughing to maintain one's consciousness when the heart has stopped beating. Let's pause for a moment on poor Esteban because even though I was happy that Marina didn't actually die, I was distracted with thoughts of who was going to pay her medical bills. I mean they are refugees, right? I’m assuming that if they had better means, they could have afforded a better boat for escape.

Speaking of escape, Foreman finally did. He got his long sought-after request from House to stay, but then Foreman's ever-growing ego kept him from accepting the offer. At this point it's: See ya, so long, buh-bye. After that, Cameron's quitting was uneventful. It's funny how, given their actions of late, Chase is the only one of the three that I want to stay, when not so long ago I thought he brought little to the table. I guess that is what change is all about. Unfortunately, I'm not convinced that much change is afoot. As cliff-hangers go, I'm not having palpitations wondering if the ducklings will be back in Season 4. I fully expect to see them and their lab coats neatly pressed and reporting for duty. Don’t you?

That's it for the season. We'll have all summer to ponder the fate of our doctors and who will return in the fall. Will Chase and Cameron still be together? Will Cuddy finally procreate? Will Foreman be even more full of himself? That remains to be seen. Until then, the doctor is out.

Have a great summer, everyone!

I was rather divided about this episode as well, I enjoyed the mystery of the sick woman (sick, dead, dead, alive) I really enjoyed House's exasperated glance up to the heavens when she came back to life!:^O

However, Foreman at the end was just a royal pain of self smugness. The only one I felt bad about was Chase. House really does OK by himself. (Loved the scene with the husband at the end) The writing as always was good.

Thank you very much Rhoda for your excellent coverage this past year!!

Foreman just made me dislike him so much more now than ever.
I was miffed when Cameron gave him the framed page of the journal with 'his' article title. But it was fabulous when House commented on how he'll have a framed copy of stole work with him forever.

Too bad Chase is gone... (for now?) But I'm glad it made Cameron open her eyes about him.

I enjoyed the season finale, although it was not as good as the finale from last year. I enjoyed the interaction between the husband and House. I am married and was touched by how much the husband loved the wife and how he was willing to do anything to help his wife. It was a nice change of pace that there were no hidden agendas evolved in the relationship of the husband and wife. Maybe it's the romantic in me, but it is was refreshing to see a couple who really loved each other. It seems a lot of times on this show and others, everyone is cheating and/or lying to their spouse or loved one.

I also found it refreshing that Chase stood up to House and spoke his mind, even though he got fired. I thought Cameron quitting and showing up a Chase's place was a nice way to end the season. I did not care for Foreman's attitude and conduct during his last day. He is too full of himself and needs to wake up and realize he is not the most important person in the world. I am all for Foreman wanting to be a better doctor, but first he needs to become a better person.

I am hoping next season will be better than this season. I have enjoyed a lot of the episodes, but I feel that something needs to change. I feel that they really need to finally deal with House's drug abuse. I do not think that House getting clean will make him less of a doctor or a pain in the butt. I like the relationship between Chase and Cameron, if it continues, I hope it goes slowly forward.

I say let the boy go work in Harlem where he can make a difference. His ego and attitude has been a detriment to the show since the beginning. I know, many would say, but he is a good foil for house. I don't buy it. He has been nothing but a self centered jerk since the start. Always feeling like he was better than House. Come on people, he came rushing to House because he knew House was the best. He wanted to learn. All he did was try to prove he was better.

Whats up with House firing the aussie guy? Did he do it to try to keep Foreman? If so, bad damn choice.

At this point, I hope House hires a trio of new people who can work with him without trying to prove they are better. Maybe the chick who thought the blind patients problem was botox. She seemed nice, and just as good looking as the redhead chick.

Serious mistake firing the Aussie dude. Of course the writers will find a way to bring them all back. Yet another serious mistake.

I wonder if Foreman has learned enough under House to make a difference in The Hamptons as well as Harlem? ;)

btw - what's up with House and Hubby Dearest smoking stoogies in the just had major sugeries wife's hospital room?!

I'm glad someone mentioned the girl who suggested botox, etc. That was a nice bit of foreshadowing - perhaps there will be "new blood" from this group next season.

I have to admit that I fell asleep 15 minutes into the episode. Luckily I set my DVR to record it.

I thought it was totally unrealistic that PPTH would take in this patient who came into the country as refugees just because they came looking for House. Frankly, I think that whole premise ruined the credibility or believability of the story.

I guess the other think that I have never been able to understand about this show is why the doctors who are diagnosing the case also actually perform most of the procedures. Is this how it works in most hospitals? It seems anyone that I've even known who has been admitted to a hospital, they are usually passed off to someone else to do the CT scans, MRIs, etc. Would someone who was a specialist in doing the angiogram (I think that was the procedure Foreman was doing) have seen the heart irregularity much sooner?

Count me as one who really doesn't care that he fired Chase, who is nothing but a whiner. And Cameron again shows her immaturity by quitting too. What a bunch of children House has working for him.

At this point, I think I would prefer if House starts next season with a new batch of underlings. Maybe a little new blood would be just what the doctor ordered. Some of the interactions between the doctors has gotten predictable and tiresome. Bring on some new guinea pigs!

Fairly boring, as season finales go. The good news...the ducklings are gone! I'm looking forward to an entirely new group of ducklings next season and I hope these three are gone for good!

Please, please bring Chase back. He's been my favorite duckling since Episode 1 of Season 1 and I seriously cannot handle the show without him. I might not be able to watch.

I think the ducklings will be back as full grown ducks. That's been the theme of some of these conversations - do they trust House's judgement more than their own? Chase was fired because he'd "learned enough." And Cuddy was willing to give Foreman his own team.
I'm also amused at how few other staff this hospital seems to have (hey, maybe that's how they afford the endless tests!) It always reminds me of a comment someone made on a late West Wing episode, where the gang was in China, trying to deal with all the diplomatic requirements. It was commented how helpful it would be to have an embassy, or an ambassador ON THE SCENE to take care of those things!
Here, they could hire nurses, and MRI techs, lol.

I happen to like Foreman the best of the ducklings. He is competent and confident, and yes, sometimes he's arrogant. But let's face it, he's nowhere near as bad as House. I'm looking forward to the ducklings coming back next year. House may actually be learning something from them, as well as the other way around.

The comment about the "boy" going to "Harlem" was so racist, I'm not even going there.

Interesting, Grey's Anatomy ends with new interns or ducklings coming on board and now there's the possibility House may do the same... ;)
May 30, 2007 10:07 AM
I'm thinking maybe House gets a new team of interns and as Cuddy suggested previously Formean gets to have his own team and lead a team instead of working. under House. Chase & Cameron would work under Foreman remember when cuddy made Foreman House' s boss temporarily!
