Highway to the Discomfort Zone

This week’s episode of Greek was all about relationships: Cappie and Rebecca’s, Rusty and his pledge brothers, Calvin and Dale, and of course Cappie and Casey.

It’s big sis/lil’ sis week at the ZBZ house which means all kinds of great tense moments betwixt mortal enemies Rebecca and Casey. Then out of nowhere, (and entirely good on her part) Casey tries to amend the troublesome relationship that they have. Which of course freaked out Rebecca (and me) so much that she goes to let Cappie know that not only should they date but they should make it hugely known, by making out on the ZBZ lawn.

In a weird way, I actually got Rebecca’s flight response. It’s been nothing but hatred between her and her big, and to add on this new twist of her choice of a beau well, I’d rather her hate me too. It keeps things simple.

Of course Cappie, good guy that he is, understands Rebecca’s view point but feels that he needs to tell Casey himself about their relationship. What?! Whatever happened to exes staying exes? Wait, this is on ABC Family, I forgot!

Of course that news was a bit much for Casey, first Rebecca and Evan, and now Rebecca and Cappie? Well Lizzie did say Big sis/lil’ sis week was all about sharing.

Casey decides she needs to up her game and bring someone who would blow away the Rebecca/Cappie togetherness. Bring in Jonah from the animal shelter! How hot was this guy? In my opinion, he was breaking all kinds of hot-ness laws, and apparently got Casey to break some real ones as well. After a disastrous showing at the double date event and waking up naked in his bed the next morning, we find out that junior McSteamy is actually 16 and living with his mom. Ouch.

Across the CPU campus, Rusty is coming to the painfully obvious conclusion that he has not been spending a lot of time with his fellow pledge brothers. They have memories, nicknames, and a bond that Rusty has missed out on, given his girl problems from earlier in the year and his obvious status as Cappie’s favorite. Once again it’s Cappie to the rescue as he announces that the pledges have to do a pledge project. The “Swingaling” the boys come up was equal parts lame and hilarious. Beaver’s joy at the tire swing was priceless as was his major plummet to the ground. It’s back to the drawing board for the boys and after some bad advice from Cappie’s big bro Joe, Rusty comes up with a video game to the dismay of his fellow pledges. They eventually come to a compromise and come up with a project that they can all contribute to, a brewery for the Kappa Taus that oozes black sludge. No matter! It’s the together-ness that’s the point of the project.

Let’s get to my favorite relationship, Dale and Calvin. Dale makes a pledge to “cure” Calvin of his homosexuality and goes to ridiculous lengths to “help” him. I was amazed by the writers of Greek for this plot line. They took a sketchy touchy subject and managed to show the humor and realism in it. Having Dale come across as a concerned friend instead of a closed minded bigot was genius. We got to see both sides of the extreme with Dale’s conversion therapies and Calvin’s not so subtle hints that Dale may be more open minded than he thinks. In the end Calvin gets Dale to accept him for who he is and that he happens to be gay and happy. Although I agreed with Calvin, that next time they needed to talk about that Confederate flag.

Over all a Meh episode of Greek. The laughs still continued and I thought it was nice touch that they gave a brief glimpse of Cappie dropping his dating news to Beaver. (Beav had such hopes for Rebecca.) Dale had a more prominent part and there was no Evan.

Then again that’s gonna change next week when the Omega Chi’s and Kappa Tau’s go to war. Oh yeah bring on the duct tape, farm animals, and whatever else you can think of because it promises not to disappoint!

Till next week!
