Love for Gilmore Girls
As I was growing up, and in my teenage years, I admired the Gilmore Girls. Aspiring to the emmotional rollercoaster Lorelai has gone through, and yet still remaining together and tough. She had never broken down, and what was great was that Rory did not always make mistakes, and put her life together to aim high and never lower. Even when she was with Jess, who was to most people, not the best of guys, she showed him a kinder side of life. Rory was never changed by Jess or Dean. But instead she made her own life goals and stuck to them, and even in the end, she stayed successful and follwed her dreams.
When I sat down, on a boring afternoon, to watch the 6th season, I began to really wonder how the writers could possibly end the show. How could they do it just right and make the diehard fans absolutely satisfied? This puzzling questions quickly sunk in and made a worry whether the writers, who had done an amazing job writing all episodes in seasons 1-6, could ever tie the loose ends, and make the show memorable. I remember that day, when I finished watching the last episode of season 6 for what was probably the 10th time, I knew that after, hopefully enjoying the 7th season, that would be it. No more watching the great actresses Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel, and actor Matt Czurchy (these being my most favorite),, (I probably spelled a few names wrong). And when the 7th season aired, I must admit, it was a bit suprising. Of course the love between Logan and Rory continued to grow, but when Lorelai married Chris, that was just a stupid thing to put in the story line. Their relationship could not possibly have any hope of lasting for long; all those times that Chris let both Rory and Lorelai down on many occasions. It was not too suprising that Logan would finally propose to Rory; since long distance communication was not the best way to keep the spark between them alive, and when he said he was offered a job in San Francisco, that would make sense that he would ask her to follow him down there as a married couple.
I can understand why Rory said no. It was pretty clear throughout the whole show that Rory wasnt the type to be tied down. Meeting her goals seemed to be always top on her list. I was impressed by how well her education and goals went. Yale is a great school, and her writing skills were great as well. But what was extremely sad to me, was that on her graduation day, when she stopped Logan as he rambled on about various things, and said Logan, I cannot marry you, and went on to explain why, he said implyed that its all or nothing. That he didnt even want to TRY long distance communication. In my eyes, if you are that much in love, it was not realistic to THIS story that they would just completely split apart. I can see that this may not be true for every love story, but for this one, it didnt seem right. Logan turned out to be the best guy for Rory, and even in a few bumps in the road, they still remained in love and cared very much about eachother. With his last line ''Goodbye Rory'', with a grin and a sad parting, it was truely the end of a great tie in the story line. It was finally split and that was it. They should have remained together in some way though, maybe not married, but at least together. That wasnt a part of the story that if they were together, there had to be an end and final resolution to their relationship, in whatever way that may be. But still, I was very dissappointed. I guess Lorelai living her life in Stars Hollow, managing the Dragonfly Inn, visiting Luke's regularily, Friday night dinners with her parents still every friday, and Rory going off to write was enough to end the story?
I am VERY dissappointed with the writers, as I'm sure many big fans out there are. For not only did the writers ruin the finale of the story, but also ruined the hopes of everyone that there would be somewhat of a happy ending. But i guess that isnt possible for these writers, for they did screw up.
