Well I'm not holding my breath..or I'd die. Cuz I'm not going. What is being missed here is that while the Chix have the right to freedom of speech..Americans also have the right to not listen to them. America has spoken too. The Chix want to speak their minds...but don't want America to speak back. When an American trashes their country from FOREIGN SOIL...it's unforgivable. The movie is nothing more than a self-serving piece of propaganda as three girls attempt to save their careers and line their pockets with the money they lost on album sales. An apology would go much further than a pitch for sympathy. Poor poor Dixie Chix..Whaaa Whaa. They should take their own advice and ..Shut up and sing. I hate war too...but when at war..you NEVER turn your back on your country. Dissent is part of the democratic process...treason is not.

If you would watch the movie, or knew absolutely anything about the CHICKS as people you would realize that you are wring about them. And they did not trash america. They said they didn't like the president. There is a HUGE difference between those 2 things.

The movie is about the ridiculous reaction by huge corporations to boycott the Chicks. The boycott was a resuly of huge clear channel and another huge media conglomerate telling all their radio stations not to play the Chicks, if it weren't for them, the boycott wouldn't have happened. There are even scenes in the movie from government hearing saying this EXACT same thing.

treason. you're funny. I don't think you even know the definition of that word. All the Dixie Chicks did was say they didn't like the president. Nothing more. In fact, the real quote was a lot longer than what was in the news. If the WHOLE quote would have been published no one would have cared.

Why do people who don't have a real clue what the Chicks said "Shut up and Leave America"? Natalie only said they were embarrassed or ashamed that Shrub was from Texas. Period! And that warrants people threatening to kill them, kill their children and families?

If anyone wants to live in a dictatorship take your pick of countries and get the hell out of America and go live there if you want to shut people up and kill them for speaking out against a war-monger, a war-profiteer who started a war in a country that had NOTHING to do with 9/11 but used the fear of mushroom clouds and a lot of other fearful tactics. ONly to get congress approval and that of a majority of Americans. We were used big time! Fear, fear, fear is still in play!

Does anyone think it alright that the largest embassy in the world is being built in the heart of Baghdad, with its own generators, water etc? Even if the the "Iraqis stand up so our troops can stand down", as the war-mongers like to say, our troops will still be in Iraq to guard and protect that embassy. And just what do you think that embassy is for, but to protect the Iraqi puppet government and make sure the oil blood money goes in the pockets of big oil conglomerates, which include the Bush family. WAKE UP AMERICANS!

It amazes me that people call unforgivable something that is guaranteed our right as the supposed leaders of the free world. Unforgivable is killing someone. Unforgivable is not speaking a single sentence of personal preference. I'd say anyone who quit listening to incredibly good music for this reason alone has real control issues and should take a check on their own motives and over-reactions. Don't like their music? Well that's a whole other subject and of course we don't all like the same thing. That's a reasonable argument

I think the problem was they were in France when the statement was made and people love to hate the French. Another innanely bigoted stand. People are not good or bad due to the country of their origin or even where they live now. That includes our enemies - which France is not at the present time.

The last time I heard the sale of the new CD has gone well. So, there goes the theory that no one is listening or cares. Plenty of people are not listening to the blow hards who shoot off their mouth on a long dead subject like the one sentence from Natalie Maynes that some think should define her career. It doesn't - her talent does. So get over yourself.

They were at the Shepherd's Bush Empire in London, not in France.

Treason..noun..treezun..a crime that undermines the offenders government.

When on foreign soil..berating ones President, in a large public forum, during times of war..definitely undermines ones government. In my opinion. An opinion I thought the constitution allowed me. I must have been wrong.

Note: At no time did I make a personal attack towards the poster(s) of this (these) messages. I never implied the poster was uninformed... uneducated.. intolerant... bigoted.. inane, etc... nor did I invite them to leave their country..and I'm not about to do so now just because I was attacked. Your opinions, are as valid as my own.

I would however add that I read that many of the Chix U.S. concerts were canceled due to lack of interest this time around. I guess I'm not alone in my feelings and I feel the same way about everyone doing such things on foreign shores. Sheehan, Belafonte and others.

I had no intent to offend anyone posting to this thread...it appears conversation is a lost art.

I sincerely hope you enjoy their movie, music, and political agenda..it IS your right.

Have a good day.

I believe that the Dixie Chicks should be able to say whatever they like without fearing what amounts to being blacklisted. If the fans are upset with them that's also their right, however it is wrong for radio stations to stop playing their music & tv stations refusing to air their movie ads.

There are many Americans out there who don't agree with what President Bush is doing. Natalie speaking her mind is her right being an American. Freedom of Speech is a right I hold dear.

greysin - that did sound like a personal attack and I apologize for that. I didn't intend it that way. This is something that has been over discussed and I was reacting to that fact. You, of course, will believe what you want as will I and we both should be free to express those feelings.

In my opinion, the right to free speech is the right to speak your mind without fear of persecution from the government AND your fellow americans. That right was taken away. So many people say, "Oh, I have the right to speak my mind too and not buy their music" but what they don't seem to understand is that so many people took it so much farther than that. Death threats, stonings, burning and destroying their artwork. THESE things are so much more unforgiveable than the simple statement that was made my Maines. Big deal if she said it on forgeign soil. Does the fact that she was on foreign soil take those rights away? No.

And the rallies that were held to burn and destroy the cds were so much like Nazi book burnings it's scary. Those people who did that and stoned the chicks and sent the horrible frightening letters are no better than the people that supported Hitler.

Potch - I'm with you 100%. And wouldn't you like to know who was ultimately behind those CD burning rallies? I'd say there is where you find the real subversives.
