October 15, 2006: Like It Was
Well, the battle between Susan and Edie for Mike's attention was certainly resurrected tonight. In true soap opera form, Mike finally came out of his coma and the only one not around or even in town was Susan. Susan was gallivanting with Ian in the country again, in a place where there was, of course, poor cell reception. When Susan's daughter Julie finally got through to Susan's cell, I was so hoping Julie would've said: "Umm... Mike came out of his coma. Can you hear me now?" I didn't think Susan was being fair to Ian. She didn't have to reciprocate his flirtations in the first place, but she did. But then I felt bad for Susan when Mike told her he didn't remember her and asked her not to come back for a while since he had to go to physical therapy. Retrograde memory loss will do that to you. You just knew Edie was going to be leering around the corner and then tell naïve Mike that he wasn't in love with Susan. Payback's a bitch and her name is Edie.
Orson is one of my favorite characters on the show now and I think it's due to a combination of the character being written so well and because Kyle MacLachlan is just so dang good. Yes, Orson is a "bad guy" and you can tell he's got a sordid past that includes killing his wife. But unlike Bree's former psychopath other half George, I don't find Orson creepy. Am I alone here? I like that he's so mysterious, but likably mysterious. Why is he being so nice and supportive to Bree's kids and to Bree herself even as he tried to kill Mike and then freaked out when he heard Mike came out of his coma? I kind of like not knowing why. Speaking of Bree's scandalous kids, it did not surprise me that Andrew turned tricks with older men while he was homeless and that Danielle had a bad perm, I mean, that Danielle was sleeping with her history teacher, Mr. Falati (Anthony Azizi from Commander in Chief). One of the best scenes tonight was when Bree confronted her neighbor Vera Keck and told her that her husband, Howard, (Terry Rhoads) was one of Andrew's clients. Best way to shut Bree up? Tell her about Danielle and the teacher. Poor Bree her two kids are the town sluts. Vera was played by the fabulous Lisa Banes, who has portrayed a plethora of various roles in her career, but the one I want to point out? How about the mother in Mother, May I Sleep with Danger? Oh yes. Not everyone can say they've played the title character in a Tori Spelling TV movie.
While we're on the subject of Tori Spelling, I enjoyed the battle between Gabrielle and Carlos. She went too far in selling his belongings in a yard sale, but he went too far when he even suggested peeing in her mouthwash, soup and coffee. Then Carlos pulled a Bree and asked Gaby to get out of the car and he left her there on the street after she told him she slept with John Rowland again. Oh, what's the Tori connection, you ask? That was Michael Durrell as Gaby's lawyer briefly at the very end. 90210 fans will remember Michael as Donna Martin's doctor father. Uh-huh.
What a treat it was to have a Nora-free episode! At last Lynette and Tom got to spend time with one of their sons. Since Parker was so bad at playing baseball, I totally related to him since I was always picked last while choosing teams in gym class (cue Debbie Downer noise). I didn't mind Lynette paying that pitcher kid Nicky $50 to help Parker and I laughed out loud when Parker's ball hit Nicky in the head. Am I bad? Glad Lynette seems to want to support Tom as he chases his dreams. As long as he chases them away from Nora.

i loved this episode. i too like orson...much better than george. i dont have the foggest idea on why orson hit mike with this car. but i cant waite to find out why.as for gaby and carlos i think gaby still loves carlos. she just doesnt want to admit it.....not just yet.i also knows what its like to always be picked last in school sports. however everytime i was picked last i turned out to be the team captin the next time my class played a game(this happened everytime). for some strange reason my other classmates didnt catch on it. but anyway it was sweet that lynette was trying to make her son fit in with the other kids.
plus so glad that nora was no where around. i hope we dont get to see her till the end of the season.

This episode proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that DH is back in a big way. Loved Orson trying to explain to Bree exactly what Andrew was doing for money. "Yardwork?"

Wow! I'm really excited to see what they do with Mike. If he only remembers moving in, then we are right back where we started. He doesn't know what happened with his dead wife, Paul or even that his father-in-law is dead and that he has a son.
I'm looking forward to this season.

I'm so happy that you're writing for this show! I've been fast forwarding through Teri Hatcher's scenes this season, so I can always stop by here to get caught up on what a mess she's making of herself and everyone around her.
I thought signing up to make blog comments would be difficult but I was done in a snap-- APPROVED!

I would not be sad if they wrote off Teri Hatcher's Character. Not that I dislike TH, but I really, really dislike everything Susan.

I have to agree with you, I cannot stand Susan's character. If they want to kill her off, see ya! And what's with making Susan look horrid this season? And Edie as well...what happened to the hair/make-up department? Orson is one of those characters you love to hate, where as George was a character that you just hated. I hope that he sticks around a bit longer. I'm liking that Andrew isn't trying to get back at Bree, I like the way they are bonding.
Yes....I agree with all of you...a great show with NO Nora. She's got to go!
Carlos and Gabby are by far my favourites, I think deep down inside they both still love eachother and will eventually reconnect. At least I'm hoping so!

Loved last nite's episode. Not sure if Gaby ever truly loved Carlos. Loved the lifestyle but did she love the man? I know he loves her. I hope they get back together but can't wait to see the War of the Roses on Wysteria Lane play out. Is it me or is Susan not only a bad mother, but also a bad girlfriend? Ok so after sitting around the clock for 6 months at Mike's bedside she earned a little break. But shouldn't she have rode into town or at least identified a spot where her phone would work everyday to check on the coma victim, or at least on her teenaged daughter? Edie is deliciously sinful, but it serves Susan right! And what's up with her hair? It was like that last year too, looks damaged and frizzy and terrible! Hope Andrew and Bree can work it out. Maybe now she'll begin to understand how the way they turned out was in great part her fault.

I have no idea how they're going to keep up the story line of Mike believing Edie's lies. The other women are sure to fill him in on the truth as soon as they see he and Edie together. I'm sure the writers have it all figured out but Edie's going to have to do a great job of keeping him away from the other women to keep this charade going.

I don't care for the Mike lost his memory-Eddie takes advantage-Susan's thrown on the side by Mike situation AT ALL, I don't dislike Susan or Eddie and Mike for that matter but I just care less about the Susan story line than I care about the others and as always Bree is my favourite, I loved her face when Orson told him what Andrew did for a living and I really dig that Orson character while I'm on the subject, I really thought that I only liked Bree and Andrew's interaction as long as they were fighting but they proved me wrong since I really enjoyed them bonding last night. I also can't wait to see more of the war of the Solis

I agree with everyone--it was great having a Nora-free episode. I did think the Tom/Lynnette/Parker storyline was a little over the top, but I do agree with her that he should have finished the season.
I also think that Gabrielle does love Carlos in her own way, and I hope they get back together--especially without an interfering "Mamma." This does call to mind the War of the Roses, which ended extremely badly. Be warned, Carlos & Gabrielle. I wonder if John's fiancee would like to know about them?
Unlike many people, I can't stand Edie. I feel for her a little, but what she's doing is really terrible. I'm very annoyed at Susan--she treats her daughter Julie as if Julie is the adult in the family. With all she went through with Zack, she needs some parenting. Get a clue, Sue.
I have loved Kyle MacLauchlan ever since Dune and Twin Peaks, so I was glad to see his name in the credits. I think he's much better than George (don't we all!). It's funny how well he does with Andrew. I thought the scene in which he was trying to communicate to Bree what Andrew had done was hilarious. Bree is just such a fantastic character and Marcia plays her beautifully.
It was really a pretty good episode.

I agree with everyone that Susan is horrible. I couldn't believe she said that line to Ian about him moving faster if it was his wife who woke up after a coma. Yeah, he's purposely turning off the gas so the house doesn't blow up just to slow you down Susan. Grow up. I hope Susan finds out that Orson ran over Mike, then Orson can have an excuse to kill Susan.

Dave or anyone, tell me why did Orson run Mike down with a car? I sure don't remember why, but I remember watching that episode. Bear with me here as I am using a senior brain. Thanks loads

MOambo,
That's part of the mystery this season. Apparently, they know each other from the past but no one has explained why/how...

Glad to see I'm not the only one to notice Susan's hair. I usually don't pay much attention to her scenes, and now I'm totally distracted by her stringy hair. What's the deal there?
Love Bree and Orson. Agree that Carlos and Gaby are still in love and hope they get together. Gaby may have made a mistake about telling Carlos about her fling with John especially if he finds out that John is now engaged. Could use it against her.
