November 26, 2006: The Miracle Song
It's always a treat when we get answers to questions that have been baffling our minds. But in the true Desperate Housewives tradition, questions still remain unanswered, so our head-scratching never truly comes to an end. Alma is alive and has been in hiding and in cahoots with Gloria (Dixie Carter) all this time. But where has she been? Has she been hiding because Orson was the one who killed Monique or did Mike? Since Mike still has amnesia, he doesn't even know (although Monique's blood was on Mike's wrench — uh-oh). When I saw Valerie Mahaffey listed with tonight's guest stars in the opening credits, I figured it was because she'd be seen in only flashbacks. When Gloria called that mystery person on her cell phone and said "meet me on the corner in an hour," my smart roommate Jason yelled: "I bet it's Alma!" I liked Susan sneaking into Orson's office and finding the evidence that he was in a mental hospital for psychological depression when he was younger. Plus, Susan heard Orson tell Bree that he never loved Alma, and that's why he turned to Monique. Aside from those tidbits, what are the secrets that Gloria still has over Orson? Color me intrigued.
The other big unknown that was answered was the "Is Art a pedophile?" question, much to the horror of Lynette. I knew as soon as Art made the reference that his (newly dead) sister Rebecca always believed in him, Lynette's earlier suspicions would be correct. Gross. Art's two lines to Lynette — "I'm free" and "I have you to thank" — just made Lynette even more mortified. Earlier, Art sure got a Wisteria Lane unwelcoming when he showed up to the holiday block party as a ho-ho-ho-ing Santa. Everyone looked at him with disgust, especially Lynette. But it was oh-so-Lynette of her to start feeling sorry for Art after the neighbor housewives staged their protest with the anti-pedophile signs — a protest that Lynette caused herself. That was Alison La Placa as Rita, the neighbor who organized the protest along with Mrs. McCluskey. I hope they give the very funny Alison more to do next time she's on. I was glad we didn't really get to know the extent of Art's pedophilia. For that story line, less is more.
How typical of Edie to break it off with Mike (or "take a break") after he was arrested for Monique's murder and was behind bars. I loved that they had Susan come to visit Mike right after Edie's breakup. Nice timing: Just when Ian's parents were coming to visit and eat a delicious dinner that Susan asked Bree to cook for her. Then I loved that Susan and Bree argued over who murdered Monique — Mike or Orson. Of course, Bree was going to side with Orson, and Susan was going to side with Mike. No Bree cuisine for Susan. But luckily, Ian's parents were delayed and stranded at my hometown airport, O'Hare. That Ian is a clever dude. Interesting way to get Susan to stay away from Mike — paying for an expensive lawyer to represent Mike and get him out of jail, but only if Susan stops visiting him. We'll see how long Susan follows that arrangement.
Eva Longoria was once again the comedy MVP. The way she set her sights on Bill Pearce — the single father of Amy, the one little pageant girl that Gaby and "spineless 'mo" Vern (Alec Mapa) were planning on firing — was hilarious. Funniest moment was the baton hitting Amy on the head, and then Gaby closing the blinds and saying to Bill, "Yeah, she's a special girl." The actor who played Bill — Mark Deklin — totally reminded me of Casper Van Dien. And the young actress who played Amy, Juliette Goglia, was a bit of a Madonna's daughter Lourdes-look-alike. That conniving Gaby wasn't about to allow Amy to set up her daddy with her best friend Sherri's mother. What better way to thwart that than to suggest Sherri (the most promising contestant, played by Chloe Moretz), perform with Amy (the least promising and so bad that Gaby said, "If she was a horse, we'd have to shoot her")? Suddenly, the best friends were enemies. There's no stopping Gabrielle: "Friends come and go, but a crown is forever."
Two final random observations: — How many of you were thinking the wheelchair-bound Rebecca (Jennifer Dundas) was going to get run over by a car, a la Mike Delfino and Mama Solis, as she wheeled herself away from Lynette? Thankfully, that didn't occur. Not that dying of a cardiac arrest wasn't tragic enough, but you get my point. — Oh my, Marcia Cross is definitely pregnant. It kills me when they don't hide it as well as they normally do.
Heads up for next Sunday and all of December: No new episodes! ABC is repeating the season premiere next week and won't have a new one airing until January 7. See you then; but in the meantime, comment away.

i also knew that alma would be the one that gloria was talking too. but right now im more confused then ever. however i dont think that mike was involved in moniques death. i think he is being set up....once again. why do they always set up mike for murder? first it was mrs. hubber now its monique. and the only person who could clear that up is dead....caroline. anyway i dont know if art was actually telling the truth about "his freedom" from his sister. or was he playing with lynette's head for payback for what happened to him. i think gaby hit a low. and im not liking her new love interest.
plus did everyone completly forgot about zack? susan saying that she is all that mike has....but what about zack, and diedra's sister kendra?
i liked seeing alison la placa i hope we get to see more of her. i remember her from that fox tv show "duet" from the late 80's.

I couldn't remember where I'd seen Alison La Placa before so I checked it out, and it was Friends. She played Rachel's obnoxious boss in several episodes.
This was a pretty good episode, but I find myself getting bored with the show. Don't know why and don't want to, but yeah, I'm not into it as much as I'd like to be. Dang it.

I am suspicious that Alma murdered Monique and that Gloria was involved. Don't know how and why Mike got involved, but I think Orson ran him over because he thought Mike did it.

I agree with Mamma Mia--Alma may have killed Monique (or Mommy Dearest did with Alma's connivance). I'm sure Orson thinks Mike did it, and that's why he ran over him. Isn't it interesting how people get away with murder on Wisteria Lane (or at least vehicular homicide--Andrew!). I'm going to keep thinking that Orson is innocent of everything except running over Mike--and, as he's recovered, I think I'll forgive him.
I felt sorry for Art because I did believe the pictures were innocent. That ending was a real zinger.
I am starting to dislike Susan, but I hate Edie for being the rat deserting the sinking ship. She's horrible!
I loved the poker scene. Good seeing the housewives together. Ian's plan was a good one; let's see if Susan can keep to the agreement!

I totally agree. I think Alma and Gloria killed Monique to set up Orson or to punish him for the affair, and Orson ran over Mike because he thought Mike killed her. But Orson didn't seem too surprised when he saw Monique in the morgue. I love the Susan vs. Bree stuff coming on. I loved the episode but I still have questions. There was no mention of Moniqie when Mike came to town-it was all about Diedre-so how well did he know her? Does anyone remember who Orson was visiting in the mental hospital? I thought the same thing about Zach. I forgot all about the Kendra. How did Zach get all his grandfather's money-shouldn't he had to split it with Kendra? So is the Art storyline over? Why would he "out" himself as a pedophile to Lynette? And where is Kayla? Do they now know how to do a longer storyline for Lynette?

As closely as I'm following the show, I'm confused: Orson might think that Mike killed Monique, but how would Mike and Monique even know each other? What would his motive be for killing her? As for the other "suspects", it makes sense that Alma would want Monique out of the way, so she could get back with Orson, and apparently that's what Orson's mom wants, too. But beyond that, I'm not sure what's going on...Any help?

wow i am totally with you on this episode !! and what a curve ball i should have seen coming with lynette and art and gloria and alma at the end of the episode !!!
the only thing that killed me with art's storyline and lynette feeling sorry for him was while cripple sister was telling her off, she was taking it. that is so not like lynette. and she had the easiest answer to give back to her to shut her up, why did he donate all that stuff and take down the pictures so fast if it was innocent? seriously, that was my 1st reaction i was screaming, ask her that! oh well. sorry she had to die. tho like you i was expecting her to get hit by a car. of course i went to a more recent show and thought of nip/tuck when i saw her crossing the street.
i still can't believe i didnt even entertain that alma was alive !! this is getting good. and its even more noticeable that marcia is expecting, i kept catching angles of her where i was wondering when she was due.
i am so glad you pointed out the resemblance to casper van dien in re: to mark deklin !! it was totally eating me up who i thought he was. tho he is far taller. i hope we see him a bit more. he is delicious !!

I'm I glad I read the comments. I'm jumping on the 'Gloria and Alma killed Monique to punish Orson' bandwagon. I'll take it a step further...Bree's next.
As far as Mike knowing Monique...well, he and Susan weren't together most of last season, he could have been with her then.

Dave, I don't think Desperate Housewives will be back until January 7. Please feel free to correct me, if I'm wrong. Thanks for your "spot on" commentary!

I still have a lot of questions. Mike and Orson are involved somehow. Why else would Orson run him over? I don't think that Mike murdered her. Maybe she was given Mike's number to ask him for protection? I think Orson killed her because he found out that his friend was sleeping with her. Also, how did Alma get away from Orson when he came back home and caught her trying to leave him?

oh, I really enjoyed last night's show. it was great and I felt it was so in touch with the characters: Eddie breaking up with Mike 'cuz he got arrested was SO like her, it's something I totally would've expected from her, lol, just like Susan being there for him and trying to help him, I liked seeing her sneaking arround Orson's office to spy on him, that was SO like her, lol. Gabby was hysterical as always, the writers have proven that these characters don't only work with the stories we're used to get from them, because I never would've thought in the past that Gabby would've worked as an entertaining character as she's been without Carlos by her side, but she and Vern with those little girls crack me up every time. Now the ending caught me up by surprise, I felt so bad for Lynette because I was starting to believe Art might be innocent as well, and then he confessed to her, why you ask? because Lynette had nothing to prove that and letting her know he'll be free to do whatever he wanted in another town was a perfect payback for him, because he knows how guilty she will feel. And then we have the Gloria and Alma reunion at the end, I admit it caught me off guard and didn't see it coming, so you guys think Alma and Gloria might've killed Monique, huh ? ooh, I like that idea... I think I'm gonna start a "find proves to defend Orson" campaign, lol, I just love that character, especially since he's with Bree.
>"Mike got arrested for Monique's murder" >>"Oh, thank God!", lol. I just love Bree.
I'm happy they're reairing the season premier, since I couldn't watch it the first time.

Just a few quick comments:
— That Art/Lynette face-off reaked of massive story line rewrite. I mean, why paint Art as her hero in the grocery store thing, only to turn a complete 180 in such short order? And here I thought Nora's death was going to be about Lynette's survivor's guilt, understood only by the cute new guy across the street. Opportunity missed. — I love this DH world where dippy Susan the godawful cook and mediocre mother is the world's best catch, fawned over by men of all nations. — I disagree with the theory that Orson ran down Mike out of revenge. Remember, Mike recognized Orson from somewhere, and that's what set Mr. Hodge off.... — Did anyone notice that Bree's key closet had a key marked "MANGER"? LOL I assume, because she is in charge of the town nativity scene... or something?

DH wont be back until 2007, but that was a great way to end things, nice episode. I'm still wondering what made Orson hit Mike with the car and also why was Mikes number on Moniques dead body, and also the jail connection between Orson and Mike.
The scene where the ladies were playin poker was funny, esp Gabby's line of anyone have a yeast infection, also glad the blonde locks are gone Eva looks so much better with darker hair.
Also ii wonder if Edie and Carlos are gonna do a lil something something.
