January 7, 2007: No Fits, No Fights, No Feuds

As Nicollette Sheridan said to the women on The View last week: "Finally! A new episode!" I would've preferred more Nicollette tonight, though, besides just the final scene. But what a final scene — Alma is moving to Wisteria Lane, thanks to the real-estate savvy of Edie. The best episodes of DH are the ones like tonight that introduce new mysteries while further answering old ones. What was Alma giving herself a shot of in her thigh? For a while there, I thought she was killing herself, but I was wrong. I liked the earlier flashback scene where we found out why Alma and Orson got married — she tricked him into getting her pregnant, and he was never in love with her. Loved when she showed up to Bree's door, and Bree fainted. Valerie Mahaffey is a stellar addition to an already solid cast, so I hope Alma lasts. Her best line was to Orson while sitting next to Bree on the couch: "What is it with you and redheads?" Since Alma and Bree are so similar, it was natural for them to bond via Bree's secret to making a good, moist pound cake: sour cream. So maybe it was Alma who killed Monique? And maybe Orson thought Mike killed Monique, and that's why he ran him over? We shall see....

I enjoyed Gaby and Carlos, especially when they both agreed that they are each a "tough act to follow." You knew Gaby's new beau Bill (Mark Deklin) was not going to continue tolerating Gaby's obsession with who sent her the flowers. Speaking of the flowers, Myra Turley was dang hilarious as Peggy the bitter florist who never gets sent flowers herself. It's a pleasure when Ricardo Antonio Chavira gets to be funny as Carlos, and he had some zingers tonight — like calling the chapeau-wearing Bill a paperboy: “Extra! Extra! Read all about it!” and then referring to him as Jimmy Olsen.

How many of you experienced some bad Nora déjà vu tonight? Little Kayla (Rachel Fox) is carrying on the tradition of her annoying mother, treating Lynette like crap just like Nora did. OK, it makes sense for Kayla to be going through trauma-with-no-mama, but having her put Lynette's heirloom doll in the garbage after literally trashing it was uncalled for. It's fun to watch the Scavo boys work as a posse, and that was a nice scene with Tom telling Kayla that Lynette wasn't the cause of her mother's death. But you know there's trouble brewing, when Kayla told Tom she'll never love Lynette: "And you can't make me."

Two more big "reveals" happened in this episode — one I saw coming, and one I didn't. I wasn't shocked at all when it was revealed that Austin was secretly sleeping with "Little Miss Van De Tramp" Danielle, behind Julie's back. Hey, I was just happy slutty Danielle's hair looked like it was from this decade. Once again, Andrew (Shawn Pyfrom) had one of the funniest lines, describing how he knew Austin was straight: "Austin's not gay — even after three beers." Oh no he di-int. What I did not see coming was Paul Young being in the same prison as Mike Delfino. Not a complete shocker, but it was one of those "Why didn't I think of that?" moments. We all knew Susan would make at least one more visit to Mike, but it seems as though she's convinced Ian that she really does love him and has said her last goodbye to Mike. As I mentioned earlier, we shall see....

So how long will Bree's friendship-breakup with Susan last? Great call-waiting scene between Bree, Susan and Detective Ridley (Ernie Hudson). Of course Susan was going to try to turn Orson in just to protect Mike. But poor Susan didn't expect Ridley to show up during Bree's "Shame On You For Thinking My Husband Killed Someone" dinner. Desperate Housewives, indeed.

im also glad that there was a new episode. and i agree more edie. anyway i also think that alma or her mother killed monique. but still unsure what it has to do with mike and why orson ran him over. yeah what was she enjecting herself w/?? this is gonna to be a good mystery. plus i had a feeling that paul was going to show up. i wonder if we get to zack and felicia as well.

now as for kayla...the apple certainly did fall from the tree with her. im already starting to not like her. and at that young of age she is already becoming a manipulative little b. like mother like daughter. lynette needs to start acting like lynette. i laughed so hard when the boys greeted kaylay by patting her on the head.

quick question did orson say that he was divorce or a widower? i dont remember him saying that he was either divorce or that his wife had died. but even so his marriage to bree is valid.

OK, where was Penny when the Scavos were at the ice cream shop and at the family dinner? Shouldn't she be about 3 yrs. old by now? Tom is too busy opening the restaurant to have Penny. And what happened to Lynette's job? She always seems to be home now. Did I miss something?

There was so much to enjoy in the show last night and lots of teases and questions and one big annoyance - that kid is definitely her mother, but harder to deal with because she's a child - a devil of a child - and knew she was trouble when she walked up the steps banging the doll's head - let's hope she gets dealt with SOON. I too thought Orson was still married to Alma but did I forget a divorce? If he was widowed he's not now. Here's to many more questions and wonderful moments of watching DH and arguing over it!!!

Can you imagine what horror stories Nora must've told the kid about Lynette? Growing up with such a manipulative mother, it makes sense that Kayla is Nora, Jr. Plus it gives the writers lots of new ways to introduce conflict into the Scavo family.

I must be dense but I was surprised by the Paul and Danielle twist. I like that we see Paul again, in life people don't go away that easy and it's no fun when everything is wrapped up in a neat bow.

Susan has been one of my least favorite characters from the beginning and she solidified this placement by calling the cops and telling them what Bre told her in confidence. Obviously no one informed Susan of the "Bro's before Ho's" Mantra. It was well stated when someone said she would walk over anyone for Mike.

Marcia Cross was looking very va va voom tonight. Pregnancy suits her wonderfully.

Wow, what a busy episode! Lots and lots going on, just the way I like it.
I'm on the Edie bandwagon, too. She needs to become more involved in at least one of the storylines.

As for Kayla, she really is her mother's daughter--even her facial expressions are eerily similar to Nora's. But if she becomes too much of a clone, then what would've been the point of killing off Nora? DH fans will probably get pretty cranky about this before long, so Lynette needs to return to her no-nonsense child rearing.

Interesting point about Penny, too. For a toddler, she certainly spends a lot of time apart from the family!

It's also nice to see Gaby and Carlos having a conversation without throwing things at each other. I hope they reconcile (well, their version of it, anyway). I also hope Susan and Bree patch things up. There's enough going on without the housewives feuding with each other.

Finally, I am so happy to see Valerie Mahaffey again, on ANY show, but she's an especially good fit here. I've been a fan of hers forever and I hope she sticks around.

Wow.... Great episode. Here's my prediction: Alma is giving herself hormone injections to make her fertile. Since she got Orson the first time by getting pregnant, I predict she's preparing herself. As with the women on Wisteria Lane, she'll find someway (drug?) to seduce him and get herself pregnant.

As for Orson and Mike connection. I think Orson met Mike while he was in jail. Orson was his dentist. I don't think Orson killed Monique. I think Alma and/or his mama did it.

Can't wait to see what details Paul puts in Mike's head. Guaranteed, he's not trying to help him....

Almost forgot...

Who do you think is sending flowers to Gaby? It has me stumped. Any theories?

I also thought Alma was killing herself, so it was a surprise when Bree called her in to the dining room, and she actually appeared! Now I wonder if she is sick, or is possibly making herself sick?
Also, with regards to her marriage to Orson, I seem to recall Orson telling Bree that he had been granted a divorce, although I don't remember in which episode that was.

At first I thought Alma might off Bree or Orson with her syringe of who-knows-what! Then after seeing her inject her leg, I instantly thought diabetes.

Gabby's flowers- since it wasn't Carlos, I was thinking it was John the hunky lawnboy perhaps???

Great episode!

Although he's in the clear concerning the Alma's "death" and disappearance, Orson still has to answer for trying to kill Mike. I can't help but think that Mike was hired to kill Monique, and that Alma Hodge was somehow involved in that whole scheme.
What I would like to see:

*Susan minding her own business.

*Lynette handling Kayla like I know she can.

*Danielle's teen pregnancy. Bree will snap.

After being shot, Lynette's job said she could take all the time she needed before returning to work. I guess that synced with the restaurant opening perfectly.

Wouldn't Paul Young be in prison? Shouldn't Mike be in the local jail, you know, since he hasn't been convicted of anything yet? Not sure.

I hope Alma and mommy dearest (hell, or Mike) killed Monique. I just really like Orson & Bree. This is the perfect man for Bree.

One last thing, after last night's episode, here's hoping Susan is the next character to meet the business end of a car bumper.

Paul Young might not have had his trial yet, and Mike obviously hasn't so they're both probably in the county jail, or something like that.

It's doubtful that John the lawnboy sent Gaby the flowers...that story seems to have been closed the last time they hooked up (when Gaby ended up in the suitcase!)

I see more Susan-bashing coming.
I think she does love both Ian and Mike--not the best situation for her to be in, but I think she's simply torn between the two men. Her instincts tell her to protect or defend Mike, but Ian has been good to her (despite his hints of being a control freak).

I like the idea of Alma giving herself fertility injections ... I almost wish I hadn't read it though. Almost too spoilerific if it's true.

Susan has always annoyed me ... and last night was no exception. Again, I ask, *what* is it about this woman that has the men falling for her? I do think she did the right thing though, in giving that information to the police, especially if Mike is innocent. I don't like the idea of Bree letting an innocent person suffer ... even for Orson, whom I have come to really like.

It was great to see Andrew ... not so much Danielle ... and it was predictable that Austin would be with Danielle on the side. My question: why is it that these tween idiots (aside from Andrew) are getting more time than Edie? Come on! Throw Edie a delicious, "juicy" bone for Pete's sake.

Loved the Gaby/Carlos interaction. Gaby at the picnic was priceless, and it was really sweet when Carlos was talking about the flowers he would get her. I'd like to see these two come together again.

And the Scavo s/l still doesn't do anything for me. I think it's because I detested Nora so much ... her spawn is her spawn. I'd like to see more Lynette/Tom than the kids.

Having said all that ... this season is definitely trumping last season by far. I actually want to watch again.
