April 29, 2007: Gossip
Seems as though just about all of the housewives were having feelings for two men tonight. Susan had to choose between Ian and Mike; Gabrielle was dealing with her jealous feelings about Carlos while celebrating her engagement to Victor; and Lynette was further flirting innocently with Rick, much to the suspicions of Tom. For the first time ever, Edie was the only housewife devoting her attention to just one man. Nice change of pace for an episode that focused on the subject of gossip.
First off, can we all agree that we're happy our dear Mrs. McCluskey was released from jail and finally told everyone what she secretly revealed to just Parker last week? I don't think any of us wanted her to be a murderer. Mrs. McC's explanation that she came home and found her husband dead on the couch with the remote still in his hand made perfect sense when she added that she discovered his pension plan had not been changed to make her the beneficiary (silly Gilbert forgot to switch it from his first wife). What better reason to put him in the freezer? OK, I'm not saying I would've done the same thing, but at least we found out the method behind her madness. Quick side note to let you know what a TV addict I am: my roommate once came home and found me asleep (but not dead) on the couch sitting in an upright position with the remote still in my hand. Had to share.
Back to DH... I loved how jealous Gaby got about Carlos dating Edie. It did not surprise me that she asked Susan and Lynette not to be Edie's friend, but it was oh-so-Edie for Edie to lure Lynette to Travers' birthday party by having her cater it, and then having Susan there to sign copies of her book. I think my favorite scene of the entire episode was the dialogue between Carlos and Gaby after he picked her up and carried her away from the party. Carlos: "So if I'm just dating and you're in love and getting married, remind me again why it is that you get to be the angry one?" What a way to shut Gaby up.
You knew that as soon as Susan told Mike she decided she was going ahead with her marriage to Ian that it would be a short-lived decision. Mike telling her, "At least I have my memories," was the best way to keep Susan's mind focused on Mike. Playing Mike's phone message twice while Ian was standing behind her sealed the deal for Ian to skip town and head back to England. Sucks that Mike also skipped town. Ida sure summed it up to Susan: "I always liked him." You are not alone, Ida.
Once again, they gave little Kayla something of substance to do. Yes, she can be a little brat, but at least she's protecting her daddy. I thought it was appropriate for Kayla to be the person to see Lynette being flirty with Rick and to alert Tom. I liked when Tom showed up with all the kids via cab to surprise Lynette, spoiling Rick's plans with her. Of course Lynette was not going to agree with Tom when he suggested letting Rick go to save money now that Tom was getting better.
Other highlights I'd like to point out: — That Susan was going to sing her own rendition of "Wind Beneath My Wings" at Gaby's engagement party with special lyrics. Something tells me that most of you were happy we didn't get to experience it. Am I right? — That Julie was finally back to give her mama some needed advice and support. — That Kayla told Lynette she could tell she was lying: "You always laugh like that when you tell a lie." — That Gaby described to Lynette and Susan just how cold she wanted them to be to Edie: "I want icicles hanging from that bitch's ears." — That Susan ("men are scum") had to see the court-ordered anger management therapist (Judyann Elder) after the incident in the parking lot with that random man (Ben Parrillo). — That Lynette agreed with Susan that they were essentially "whoring" for Edie behind Gaby's back: "Looks like we're working the same corner." — That Parker defended Mrs. McCluskey to those neighborhood boys who wrote "witch" on her door, and that he convinced Tom and Lynette to hire her back as babysitter, even with a raise.
Did you notice they finally mentioned Bree? I was amused that it was because Bree sent Gaby a basket of fresh muffins from the "top of the Swiss Alps" as a congrats engagement gift. Marcia Cross is a guest on Letterman this Thursday night, so I've already set my TiVo.

I absolutely love Mrs. M. her reasonings are understandable, yes insane...but still its understandable. I hope we get to see more of her.
Anyway, I hate Carlos and Edie together. I want Carlos and Gaby back together. They have better chemistry together than Edie and Carlos.
I cant stand that little brat, Kayla. Yeah, she is trying to protect her daddy. But she is doing it out of spite.
Yeah Dave ur right. We are lucky that we didn't get to hear Susan's rendition of "Wind Beneath My Wings."

I Like Edie & Carlos together -- it's Gaby & the Senator? that I HATE together! I feel really bad for Edie, she has real feelings for Carlos, but he point blank said it was just a fling (to Gaby).
Also LOVE Kayla -- she's got Lynette's number!! Once you start putting perfume on for another man it spells trouble! But Lynette doesn't seem to be questioning her own behavior...
One point of contention -- It's was Travers birthday, yet there was no Travers!!!

So happy Mrs. McC was not a murderer, but did anyone wonder how Mrs. McC got her husband down the stairs and into a freezer by herself?????? ">

I'm not buying Lynette being so into Rick, especially when it is so obvious he is flirting with her. This is the same woman who flipped when she thought Tom was cheating. Lynette has a lot on her shoulders with her family and the restaurant, and I could maybe buy her doing something else as an outlet (i.e., drinking too much), but I don't think she would purposely not go home to her children. Now that Tom has softened up a little, it shouldn't be that bad. Hope this storyline ends soon, because the Scavos are the only stable family on Wisteria, and I would hate to see that disrupted.

I agree with all of the other posters.
I want Carlos & Gaby back together. Victor is nice, but he belongs with someone else. (BTW do you know John Slattery is married to George Clooney's ex-wife Talia Balsam?)
And I'm getting very upset with Lynnette. As everyone else has pointed out, she & Tom have been the most stable couple on the street. She's letting a good looking guy who's a good cook as well turn her head.
I can just imagine Bree sending the fresh baked muffins--and "they're still moist!). I miss Bree & Orson.

I'm having a hard time buying Lynette too. They have the only reasonably good marriage, so it's hard to understand why she's giving in to Rick so readily. Especially after the way she flipped on Tom, I'm very disappointed that she's even flirting with the idea of cheating a bit. And finally a moment where a Scavo kid is something other than annoying (Parker, and also Kayla in a way).

Lynette and Tom's marriage has been rocky ever since Kayla and Nora came into the picture. They'd had their problems before, but this is one problem they never really resolved. I love the idea of Lynette- a woman who threatened to leave her husband if he ever cheated on her- being the one who's tempted. I don't think their marriage should end, but it's great to see Felicity Huffman get a strong SL after S2's bacon-eating incident.
My favorite moment last night was when one of the twins asked Lynette, "Mommy, can we play?" when he saw her and Susan crawling around on the ground hiding from Gaby.

Sigh of relief concerning Mrs. McClusky. She also finally had a bit of a storyline, though short-lived.
I said last week that I did not think Kayla was going back to her bratty ways, and still do not think she is. Like someone else said, she is just protecting her father and calling Lynette on an unwise flirtation that should not be happening.
For some reason, Gabby's self-satisfaction that Carlos was still "hers" irked me a bit. Seriously, if she has taken a relationship to the point of saying yes to an engagement proposal no matter what the reason was, so I feel sad Carlos is still stuck in limbo.
I have mostly liked Ian during his whole time on Wisteria and liked him even more last night. Too bad he had to cruise back to England. Oh well, bon voyage.

I can't help but shake my head at how so many posters (or shippers, or whatever we are) in the past few months have been moaning about Lynette & Tom's boring storyline. And now that things could be getting a bit spicey with Lynette and Rick, everyone seems to be dreading a possible affair between them. Well, if you don't like that idea, what do you suggest?
Let's at least be consistent here. Tom and Lynette do have the most stable relationship on Wisteria Lane, but that somehow has been interpreted as dull (I personally have never found their family/work/relationship crises of the past 3 years to be dull). And now that something might develop to throw a major monkey wrench into their marriage, all I see is dread in your posts.
If you don't want to see Lynette succumb to the "dark side," let's hear some creative ideas that will make you happy for once. If not, then let this story play out.

I'm glad Ian is gone but I'm sorry Mike is too. I was very happy to see Julie back last nite as well.
Actually I buy Lynette flirting around with the new guy. I wouldn't buy her taking it beyond flirting. She's a mother of 5 who schlepped from being a stay at home mom to a corporate executive to a pizza parlor manager in the space of a year or two. She wants to still feel sexy.
Having said that, I was a bit surprised that she was going to go out on a date with Jr. and thought it was a good thing that Tom showed up with the kids when he did. He only needs to talk to her about it, she'll cut it out.
I couldn't blame Kayla last nite. It is her responsibility to look out for her father's best interest. Lynette should know better, she knows how much that girl dislikes her. And she needs to keep in mind little girls will notice way more stuff then little boys.
I loved that Bree sent the still moist muffins too and can't wait for her to come back.
I wanted to slap those little boys for vandalizing Mrs M's house. I was a little surprised that Lynette didn't reach out to her before she made her confession. The woman had been a lifesaver to the Scavo's since Lynette started working, that's the thanks she gets?
I guess I feel a little bad for Edie. She does have feelings for Carlos and Carlos is just kicking it with her, but she should know that she's not exactly the kind of woman you take home to meet mom. And Carlos is very traditional.
I totally buy Gaby with the Mayor to be. He has tons of money and is willing to make her feel worshipped. Does she have any other qualifications?
Another great episode!
