April 22, 2007: God, That's Good
I love it when the DH writers give us those moments that involve a murder or a mystery and only one character is told the story behind the murder or the solution to the mystery, but we as viewers don't hear it and are left wondering. In this case, little Parker Scavo was told by Mrs. McCluskey exactly why her dead husband is inside her freezer, but he was sworn to secrecy. I assumed Ida Greenberg would be the one to first discover the secret (after seeing last week's coming attractions), but I didn't expect one of the Scavo boys to be the very first discoverer. Parker's look of utter shock was perfect (kudos to Zane Huett for being a super little actor). One of the funniest parts was at the hospital when Parker first told Mrs. McCluskey about his encounter while they were alone. Mrs. M: "Don't tell your brothers — you were always my favorite." Parker: "I saw the man in your freezer." Mrs. M (shouting): "Lynette! Can you go get me some green jello?" So when Ida was the second person to find out Mrs. M's secret and obviously called the cops, of course Mrs. M was going to assume it was Parker who was the leak.
After Eva Longoria revealed in this week's TV Guide cover story that Gabrielle was going to tie the knot with Victor Lang, I was skeptically trying to figure out how they were going to make it believable for Gaby to marry him so quickly. How clever for them to make Gaby save the day and be the hero by putting a kibosh on the "Lang Bang" sex scandal by stepping up to the plate, or rather, microphone during the press conference and announcing that Victor had just proposed to her right before the rolling blackout. Gaby knew everybody loves a love story so she stood by her man. But poor Carlos. Edie even picked up that he still loves his Gaby.
I thought they advanced the Susan-Ian-Mike story line quite well by having Susan attempt to set up Mike with Roz, I mean Maggie, her wedding chef (Peri Gilpin), to disastrous results. Susan to Mike (after he told Maggie about his jail time): "She thinks you're Charles Manson." I was glad Mike told Ian about his kiss with Susan. Better for Ian to know about this now rather than after marrying her. I liked how Ian kept testing Susan by bringing up Mike's name and then inviting him over. Susan trying to choose between the two wedding cakes was too funny — the "rich and elegant" cake was appropriately placed in front of Ian while the "down to earth and sweet" one was in front of Mike. Once Susan found out that Ian won Susan on a bet with Mike, it made sense for her to figuratively choose "C" — none of the above — so now neither of them will get Susan. But we all know that won't last.
Once again, it was the Lynette/Tom plot that I wasn't as thrilled with. I didn't hate it, though. I liked that Rick (Jason Gedrick) was giving Lynette a reason to feel sexy (letting her hair down again at the end), but I don't buy that she would accept Rick's flirtations. I expected to hear Tom jealously make a comment about Rick's good looks and fire him on the spot. I also found it strange that Lynette wouldn't think Tom would be overly angered by the positive restaurant review in the newspaper. Lynette yet again got a chance to one-up Tom. It isn't every episode that one of the Scavo children get a more intriguing story line than their parents.
But for the most part, I really enjoyed this episode. More positive stuff I want to point out: — The importance of power — both the electrical kind and the mental kind. What would we do without it? Unfortunately, Mrs. McCluskey ended up in jail after she lost her power. I hope we find out what she told Parker and that she returns to Wisteria Lane soon. Kathryn Joosten adds so much to this show. — Mike asking his roommate Carlos if he had a woman in his bedroom with him since Mike heard "sex noises." Carlos: "No. That was just me." — Gaby pressing up against Victor in the dark, trapped in the elevator: "Oh, what you're doing is amazing!" Victor: "My phone is vibrating." — Gaby walking in with waffles for Victor's breakfast. Victor: "Will you marry me?" Gaby: "They're just toaster waffles." — Todd Sherry was hilarious as Russell, Edie's realtor cohort. Great line after he walked into the house that Edie was using to have secret sex with Carlos: "I see you can't close a sale without opening something else." — Susan kicking Maggie under the table rather than Mike. — Nice to see Rachel Fox back with some oomph as Kayla. I loved that they had Kayla walk in with the newspaper review rather than Lynette (another example of giving the Scavo kids something to do besides just being bratty).
I'll leave you with the lovely news that we'll be treated to four new episodes in a row — no repeats (the season finale airs Sunday, May 20).

God bless Marcia Cross & her twin baby girls, but I really miss Bree (and Orson, as I've been a Kyle Maclachlan fan since Dune). I can't wait until they're back.
Sometimes Tom Scavo annoys the living daylights out of me. He can be such a brat! I understand that the pizzeria is not what he had originally planned, but he should give the new ideas a chance. I thought Kayla was a little sweeter than usual last night.
Poor Mrs. M! I hope they discover her husband died of natural causes.
I loved seeing Roz--I mean Peri--again. My husband & I are enjoying the Frazier DVD's, and she was so great on them. I hope she's in the next episode too.
I hope Carlos & Gaby get back together. They belong together.

Nice to see Kayla being sweet on her father but, according to next week's previews, she's still a little hard on Lynette. Wonder how that's gonna turn out. The whole Gaby and the mayor candidate story is very funny and sexy especially when they got out of the elevator and met some firemen. Nice to see Peri Gilpin post-Fraiser as the wedding chef. Any chance she might appear again? Edie and Carlos? Hoo-boy! Can't wait to see Gaby's reaction next week when Edie tells her. And Susan camparing cakes to her men was so obvious in a humorous way. So true! Too bad she had to find out about the bet. Can't wait for the rest of the season!

I also like Kathryn Joosten as Mrs. M she is a hoot. I wonder what she told Parker about why her husband was in the freezer. Whatever her reasoning on she put her husband in the freezer gotta be a good one.
I also loved the kids reaction to the body in the freezer. Just like what a kid would do.
I have always felt that Gabby and Carlos would someday get back together. Maybe they will. And I thought that Edie and Carlos gave up on the sex, and just be friends. Man I need to pay attention more.
Yeah it was nice seeing Kayla not being so bratty in this weeks episode. But it looks like in next weeks eppy that she is back to herself.

I'm still shocked that Penny had a line. That "More please" was so cute. Is that the first time that she's spoken?

I'm not convinced from the previews that Kayla is going back to her old ways of being a brat just for the sake of being a brat. It looked to me that she catches Lynette in a flat out lie and calls her on it.
The way I am able to accept Lynette accepting the flirtation from Rick is by thinking of how she got to be a mgr. of a pizza joint. She finally got to work out of the home doing something she used to love. Then Tom comes up with the bright idea of opening a pizza joint. She is reluctant, but ends up supporting him. He hurts his back again, and now she has to completely run the place?! And I don't know about you, but I am not fond of taking care of someone with the flu who is crabby and demanding let alone someone with chronic back pain who is going to be down for months.
Anyway, I think they did an OK job setting the stage for the flirtation. However, I'm a bit surprised she just does not get the reason Tom is upset. His dream was a family pizza joint, not a 4-star, upscale eatery with an outsider being in the mix.
I can do without the Susan/Mike/Ian storyline. She used to be my favorite character, now I wish she was the one out having twins.
As I said last week, I very much hope that Mr McClusky died of natural causes and Mrs McClusky could not bear to part with him. Who knows, maybe they will find he is DB Cooper and she kept him so no one would find out (SO just kidding here!)
I really like her character and snarky comments and feel it would be a shame to lose her.

I forgot to say that I think Julie should have been in this episode at least for a couple of minutes. She could have given Susan some sensible advice, as she always does. I've missed her lately. Where is she? And BTW wouldn't it be rather interesting to get Karl's reaction to all of this?

This was a good ep and glad to see more of the Scavo kids. I too am not thrilled with the Scavo storyline. Yawn...
Love Mrs. McCluskey.
Peri was great as the caterer. She looks great. And nice to see Mike with some actual lines and scenes which have been rare this season.

Was that a blooper at the beginning of the show when Mrs. Mclusky was using a cordless phone during a power outage, or are there really cordless phones that work without power? If there are, I have to get one of those. I really dislike this storyline they have going with Tom and Lynette. I hope they get them back on track soon. And I miss Bree and Orson as well. And it's always nice to have that one smart-ass remark from Andrew in an episode. I love the lines he gets!

I caught the cordless problem as well... unless she was on a cell???? ( it sure looked like a cordless...
the only other thought is that maybe she had a UPS on her cordless base which would keep it alive but that's pretty unlikely....

The Lynette/Tom stories are kinda doomed to be less flamboyant than those focused on the other neighbors because Lynette is a smarter, more prudent person. It would be completely out of character for her to have regular affairs, juggling men, trying to commit huge crimes and hide them; she's too normal and intelligent a person to get into that kind of thing.

Last nite's epi was good as usual. Imzadi I wondered where Julie was too. I think there are entirely too many Susan scenes with no Julie. Up until this season Susan couldn't make even small decisions without her. And while I applaud that it seems like the child is finally allowed to be a child and not have to play the part of the grownup, Susan isn't any more mature or stable this season so certainly she would consult with her at some point.
cdanie1s, I let out a big ahhhhh when Penny spoke. So cute. Was the first time that I heard her say anything.
I get that Tom's dream is slipping away from his original manifesto, but their entire lives hangs in the balance if Scavo's closes. I don't think they suggested that they stop selling pizza altogether did they? With 5 kids and only one source of income, he better shut up and like it!
The Edie/Russell scene was way funny.
I was proud of Gaby the Hero. She totally bailed him out. I just wonder if she's really going to go through with it. And what will Carlos do? He's not going to let her get married to another man without a fight I'm sure.
I don't think there's anything wrong with a little harmless flirting to let Lynette know she's more than a mommy/manager of a pizza joint. I still say she'd never cheat on Tom.
Parker seemed downright happy after Mrs. M told him why her dead husband was in the freezer so I really want to know what she said. I hope she gets out soon, she is truly quite funny.
"I knew the little bastard would rat me out".

In response to the question about the cordless phone: A cordless phone will work during a power outage, if you have an extra-battery charger in the base which serves as a back-up power supply. I agree, though, that what we witnessed was a "blooper."

I agree with KAD, with one income source and his wife supporting his dream he needs to be happy the restuarant is making money instead of going under. He should be more supportive, she sure has been. Cheese doodle orange shirt and all!

What a hoot this was. I'm curious now as to who the second couple will be since there are supposedly TWO couples marrying for the finale with one of them being Gaby. Thought the other was Susan and either Mike or Ian but now wonder whether it could possibly be Carlos & Edie with his doing a payback to Gaby? I like not knowing, and for those of you that might have been missing all of the items here and elsewhere linking "Gaby's" wedding with Eva's if her marrying Victor comes as a surprise - sorry - but it's been talked about long enough (reading some of the comments here made me wonder though). Love Mrs M and hope that she was just keeping her dead husband closeby and that he died of natural causes - would hate to have her disappear the way Oren's mom did. Was wondering what had happened to Kayla - she hadn't been on the show and I questioned that, just as I question Julie being a no-show suddenly without any explanation, but wow am I enjoying this show again and waiting for the next episode! Whatever is in store is fine by me!!
