April 15, 2007: Liaisons
Last week, I complained about ABC revealing too much during their promos and coming attractions. This week, I must do the opposite. Thank you, ABC, for not revealing too much about the plot of this episode in last week's previews. We were simply teased without seeing any key plot developments. For all we knew, Edie and Carlos were going to have amazing sex together because of those Postman Always Rings Twice-like scenes they showed, not the "amazingly bad" sex they had their first two attempts. I loved Edie bitching at Carlos about referring to her as being "bad in bed." Edie: "I've had more thrills leaning up against the dryer." I was pleased to see the two of them finally have success at the very end. I kind of wish they played Nicollette Sheridan's other half's song "Time, Love and Tenderness" when they showed them lying in bed together after the good sex. Sometimes that's all it takes — time, love and tenderness — rather than, "Wham bam, thank you, ma'am."
I found it quite ironic that Carlos was initially having bad sex with Edie while Gabrielle, after abstaining from Victor, finally gave it to him good in the limo. My favorite lines were between Edie and Gaby. Gaby: "We had sex yesterday in his limo." Edie: "Ooh, I love limo sex! Towncar or stretch?" Gaby: "Oh, stretch, of course. I'm not a complete slut." I knew Gaby would eventually come around and use Victor's money and political power as an aphrodisiac. Victor learned the hard way that Gaby needs to be worshipped and won't be ignored. Now he's in love with her.
It was about time Mike planted one on Susan (OK, ABC did reveal a little last week when they featured the Mike/Susan kiss in the previews, but at least we didn't know the context). Earlier, I went from having an "Oh, please — not again" moment when Susan drove herself and Ian into the water to avoid hitting a deer, to laughing out loud when Mike showed up to save the day and took his shirt off before diving in to save them. Nothing like making Ian feel even more inferior. Not only does Ian not know how to swim (wimp), but Mike has a much better body. Poor Ian. Of course he wants to move to London with Susan. Another line I laughed at was from Susan, after Ian failed to perform in bed: "Don't worry. It happens to everybody. Maybe it would help to talk about it. Want some cheese?"
Speaking of cheese, Jason Gedrick is a welcome addition to this show as Rick, the suddenly hired new manager at Scavo's Pizzeria. Sure, Rick's an ex-drug addict, but he can make a kickass calzone! I liked how Tom didn't want Rick hired, without even seeing him. Wait until he takes one look at him — he'll be even more of a Crabby Spice. I bet Andrew develops a crush on Rick. But in the meantime, Andrew's happy enough "doing the beer delivery guy." I love how they give Shawn Pyfrom at least one good zinger per episode. Lynette's reaction to hearing Andrew say that was priceless, as was Mrs. McCluskey's reply when Tom asked her to please control his kids: "Can I beat them?"
I always enjoy it when they leave us with a shocker, so the best part of the episode was the very end. I just knew that something strange was going to be revealed about Mrs. McCluskey, since they don't normally show her alone in her house talking to the spirit of her dead husband Gilbert. So there he was — at least his dead body — inside her freezer. Oh, the questions! Can we assume she killed him? Or maybe she loved him so much she wanted him close by, preserved to look like he used to look? Desperate Housewives, indeed! Color me intrigued.

I thought this whole episode was so good. More like the first year, but more interesting since we know the characters so intimately now.
I knew the first time Mrs. McCluskey opened her freezer that her husband was in there. What fun this is gonna be!
As for Susan, I don't mind her idiotic moments. I so loved that about her in the first year and we don't see it as much anymore..except for the past couple of episodes. She's not my favorite character, and the sooner she gets rid of wimpy Ian the better, but she can have some really funny moments.
Loved getting to see so much of Edie. I really think Carlos belongs with Gabby, but by the end of this episode, I was liking the coupling of Edie/Carlos.
Just a very entertaining episode.

I still think Mike/Susan is the heart and soul of this show, so I'm glad they seem to be heading back in that direction. The body in the freezer was a great zinger at the end, too.
The contribution by Andrew re: the beer guy reminds me of something I saw way back when he was first starting to be a major character on the show. Shawn Pyfrom was a guest on The 700 Club, talking about his wholesome, upstanding (pre-Desperate Housewives, of course) career. Within a few weeks after the appearance, he was kissing hot guys, blackmailing his mother, seducing her boyfriend, etc. I'm glad they brought him back from the brink a little since then, but the character is still a hoot and a hottie.

I missed Andrew's quote about the beer delivery guy (when did he say that?) but thankfully caught everything else and KNEW Mr McClusky was in the freezer! Don't know how, but when she was talking to him and opened it up to get her ice pop I thought we were going to see his body, so it wasn't a surprise to me at the end. Funny how sometimes you're so into a show you can just write a scene? Loved the Mike/Ian/Susan bit and I've grown to dislike Ian though hadn't until last few shows which gave me misgivings since I do so want Mike & Susan to get back together - think they're perfect for each other - he enjoys the dumb but cute things she does (me too) so should be interesting to see how it develops. LIKED Edie & Carlos and roared at the "bad in bed" - especially when her son asked whether he should spread the word that she's GOOD in bed - and Edie's look when Gaby mentioned his being good in that area? Priceless. Gaby & - can't remember his name - the about to be Mayor are now looking more appealing to me - hadn't thought they had the chemistry though so many viewers did - and now find I was wrong. What a hoot when she brought that gorgeous guy into the debate and started making out with him in the first row. She really does need to be "appreciated" and think he got the message. Expecting a wedding proposal soon. LOVE THE SHOW and am so glad it's back on track and hope it stays there. Looking forward to see whether Lynetee strays from her perfect marriage (Tom's not to be much liked in the state he's in and her new restaurant addition is a hottie - who seems to think she is too!). Oh the avenues we can explore - so many of them - let's hope the writers/producers keep on track.

I thought this was one of the funniest episodes in a long time--although I'm ALWAYS entertained by the show.
Edie and Carlos were a hoot! Who would have imagined that the two of them together would equal zilch in bed (although they did prove that the third time's a charm).
I'm still not sure I like Gaby's guy--things are moving awfully fast with the two of them, and he still seems a bit slimey to me. But hey, if he's willing to worship her according to her specifications, fine with me!
As I've said in a post a week or two ago, I still laugh at Susan's klutizness and mini-catastrophes. That's just who she is, and I'm surpised so many fans of the show haven't accepted that about her by now.
I still have mixed feelings about Ian. He is a bit of wimp and VERY insecure (I hate to admit I can identify with him in some ways), but look at his "competition"--Mike could intimidate any guy whose trying to have a serious relationship with the girl in the middle. But trying to ship her off to London with him was a pretty lame scheme.
As for Mrs. McClusky, I had an odd feeling each time she went to get a popsicle from the freezer. The only time you see basement freezers on TV is when there's someone inside them! Now THAT could be a good Wisteria Lane mystery!
I try to avoid seeing promos for any show because they do give too much away, but I happen to get a glimpse of a few DH promos in the past few weeks. They've been hinting that the new pizza shop manager and Lynette will start to feel a little something for each other. I'm definitely avoiding ALL promos from now on!

Another great episode! And I feel a little guilty that I'm not missing Bree and her dysfunctional family mess...although I do love Andrew and his zingers! Maybe I'll change my mind once Marcia Cross comes back and they write her a new story line.
I hope the new revelation about Mrs. McCluskey doesn't mean she is going to be leaving the show soon (ie. convicted for killing her husband and stuffing him in the freezer) I LOVE her so much! Asking if she could beat the kids was priceless and when she smacked Tom upside the head I laughed out loud. I don't know how...but I hope they explain why her husband is in the freezer in a way that keeps her around!

Forgot to mention...
I read last week that the ratings for DH have been dropping rather severely. Anyone know why? This has been a very strong season (although the long gaps between new episodes has got to hurt). Perhaps the damage done by last season's backlash was more extensive than we thought? Very unfortunate. I hope it bounces back in the ratings. It deserves to get its original fans back!

What a great episode! Ok, so about Mrs. McCluskey having her husband's body in the freezer...Now that that story line has been started, I'm predicting a power outage on Wisteria Lane--which will probably be Susan's fault --and oops, Mrs. McCluskey's secret is revealed. Any thoughts?

I'm with you guys, I thought last nite's episode was terrific. It did seem more like the first season eps. I heart Mrs. McCluskey and definitely didn't see the husband in the freezer coming. I hope she's not guilty of anything or if she is, she gets away with it. Lynette's going to need her to babysit for at least another decade.
I wanted Lynette to let the calzone customer have it, especially for making her cry. Glad to see the cutie pie manager and I bet Andrew will try to push up on him. I don't think it will go too far with him and Lynette. She'll catch herself before she gets that caught up.
Pinkie I agree with you, I think Carlos and Gaby belong together but I really like her with Victor too. He doesn't seem too slimy to me, I mean he is a politician so some of the slime factor has to be attributed to that. As long as he can deal with the single most high maintance housewife in history, they should be alright.
I almost fell out of my chair when Travers asked Edie if he should tell everybody that she was good in bed. Hysterical. I knew if Carlos and Edie just took their time and didn't try to be John Holmes and Vanessa Del Rio, they would be good together. I wonder how Gaby will take it when she finds out they're fooling around? And they seem like they're headed for relationshipville at that.
Was nice to see Tom's daughter without seeing her cause any trouble.
Ian's a dork. But you can certainly understand his insecurities, Susan was in love with Mike up until a couple of months ago. Now how he supposes that love just goes away is a mystery to me. Mike had her first buddy. He'll have her again.
Did anybody else wonder if she had bothered to talk to Julie about moving to England? I bet she hadn't. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'm glad she's not my mother.
Loved loved loved the episode!

Dorjean--
Andrew said he was doing the beer delivery guy in a restaurant scene earlier in the episode. Lynette had just sent one of the assistant manager interviewees out the door, and Andrew came up and asked what was wrong with that guy. The conversation led to the fact that the job paid only $8.50 an hour. Lynette said that that was what they paid Andrew, but he seemed ok with it. That's when Andrew said, yeah, but he was doing the beer delivery guy. Lynette then said something about how she so didn't need to hear that.

How gross is it that Mrs. McCluskey continues to eat things out of the freezer that holds her husband's dead body? I swear, she always eating a fudgesicle or something!

Garry B -
You asked why DH's ratings are slipping. I'm still watching it, but I'm caring about the show less and less. Gabrielle is a total high maintenance beyotch, and I can't stand watching that sleazy politician. Lynnette has been a real beyotch towards Tom lately, and I'm tired of all her conniving to get her way. Tom himself wasn't very easy to watch last night! I couldn't care less if Susan gets back together with Mike; I've never thought that he has much personality. I do like the Edie/Carlos storyline, and I like the Bree storyline alright, but I'm glad that the Alma/mother-in-law storyline got wrapped up.

So I am thinking there has to be some sort of drug addition story line coming up. Figured the new guy falls off the wagon or introduces someone to drugs - like Lynette. Tired mom running the business, running the house, needs a little pick me up.....

I may be in the minority here but I think this season of DH is funnier, tighter, and more entertaining. The recent Edie injection has helped a lot. The lame Lynette storylines are always arduous but the yummy Jason Gedrick can stay on Wisteria Lane as long as he wants.
