May 13, 2007: What Would We Do Without You?

Admit it — you got a little teary-eyed like I did at the end when Lynette was told the bad news that she might have lymphoma. And what did it for me was Tom slowly grabbing Lynette's hand and holding it, after she had tried the same thing with him (before the news), and he had rejected her hand. That scene between Felicity Huffman and Doug Savant with Lynette and Tom fighting in bed, the one that led them to get Lynette to the hospital, was a prime example of two actors at their very best. Lynette finally admitting to Tom that she did indeed have feelings for Rick (but "nothing happened") was such a powerful scene by itself — then the cancer scare. I was a mess. You could tell how desperate Tom was getting earlier, sneaking in a marriage counselor (William Ragsdale) to talk with Lynette in a very "ambush therapy" kind of way. Lynette was not about to let Herman's Head get into her head.

Speaking of messes, thankfully Susan and Mike cleaned up the possible mess of dueling weddings by moving their ceremony to the fall. I enjoyed the back and forth competitiveness between Susan and Gabrielle. You knew that the grooms weren't going to agree to a double wedding, especially Victor. My roommate and I had to rewind that wine and chocolate scene with Susan and Gaby because we laughed so hard. Gaby suggesting to Susan that they "get married — together" and Susan first taking Gaby literally was silly, but Gaby's line was hilarious: "Just so you know, if I was a lesbian, I'd totally do you!" Susan: "That’s... good to know." The one lame part was Susan asking Mike, "Will you marry me?" after he was finally about to propose. What a way to ruin a romantic moment. It reminded me of Calista Flockhart doing the same thing to Rob Lowe a few weeks ago on Brothers & Sisters.

With Bree finally returning next week, I hope this doesn't mean we will say goodbye to Edie having a worthwhile story line. With Marcia Cross away, Nicollette Sheridan has benefited the most. I was glad Carlos was honest with Edie by telling her he wasn't in love with her, and it was good for Edie to see that Carlos seemed disappointed that her pregnancy test was negative. Her latest scam is a doozie: Convincing Carlos to move in with her and to have a baby together, but secretly continuing to take her birth control pills. Oh, Edie. So seedy. And I thought she was already diabolical when visiting Sunny Pastures and getting Mrs. Sims (Ellen Geer) to evict Carlos by lying and saying he "does smack." Hopefully he doesn't smack Edie when he finds out she's still on the pill.

See you next Sunday for the season finale. With Gaby having jitters, will she go through with the wedding? I do... look forward to next week.

Hmm. So Gaby secretly takes her birth control pills when Carlos wanted a baby. (Didn't Carlos switch them on her?). And now Edie is secretly taking birth control pills a mere two seasons later. Oh well, I like Edie and Carlos together so I'll go for the ride. I just hope they don't get "Chuck Cunningham-ed" or severely backburnered with Bree returning.

I also hope this is just a cancer scare for Lynette and not really cancer. I realize this is a nightime soap but I prefer the funnier take this show has rather than the heavy, dramatic stuff.

Holding off Susan and Mike's wedding is only to have another complication come along to break them up yet again. And why do I have a feeling they are going to pul a "Jim McGreevey" with Victor Lang? Or at least I hope so.

Victor gay? I never thought about that. I do think Gaby will back out of the wedding because one, she really doesn't love him, and two he is getting increasingly weird and we know he can be downright vicious. My favorite line from this episode was Edie telling Carlos "I just peeed on that, use a coaster!"

I think the secret wedding will end up being Mike and Susan.

Can't wait to see Bree.

I'm guessing Susan and Mike's wedding might be delayed until the fall so they can kick off next season with it.
A big season-premiere episode never hurts the ratings (and, unfortunately, the ratings for DH have been slipping).

I think perhaps one more comment or incident revealing Victor's mean streak (or need to dominate) will cause Gaby to call off the wedding at the last minute. Just a guess.

I also think that Nicolette Sheridan has more than earned her share of the spotlight on the show, and it would be a big mistake to suddenly send her into the background just because Bree is returning. If Gaby dumps Victor (perhaps he'll catch her eye in that special way as she's walking down the aisle?), that would set up an interesting triangle with them and Edie.

I also want to see more poker games with ALL of the women participating.
I don't know why that was abandoned.

Dave the moment I saw the doctor I remembered Herman's Head. I liked that show.

This episode was good. I too hope that Edie doesn't have to take a back seat when our beloved Bree comes back next week (yayyy)but her relationship karma is always going to be crap when she pulls stunts like getting Carlos thrown out of his house and taking birth control pills. Why she would keep them in her purse and not some hidden bathroom safe I'll never know.

I thought that Susan was being ridiculous about Gaby's wedding. Once she cancelled, it was all open game. Glad they made up though.

Gaby's starting to see the political implications with the politician. Good. I think she'll get all the way to the alter and then leave him.

I hope Lynette isn't really sick too. I don't want to have to deal with that on this show. Once again had to give it up to Tom for fighting for his marriage. Eventually, he'll reap the benefits of those points from Lynette.

Missed Andrew.

Lynette's scene with the doctor hit to close to home for me; the only difference was I was alone. I am looking forward to the season finale. I hope Gaby does not go through with the wedding. Anxiously awaiting Bree's return(will Orson be with her-I hope so) and I also missed Andrew.

This season has been one of extremes. I am sort of tired of the men, is there no one else in town except the ex of your friend or the ex of yourself? I love Carlos, but know he is still in love with Gabby, who by the way should sooooo dump Victor, that is going to end badly, he is such a dictorial all about me kind of guy!! I loved the line about "if I was a lesbian" and the "use a coaster" will remain with me as well, though it was incredibly funny at the time. I hope that the finale next week will set up some decent story lines for next year, this year has really bounced around. I fear for Lynette, but her hubby could use a wakeup call when it comes to being a husband. Shall we wait and see?!

With Bree finally returning next week, I hope this doesn't mean we will say goodbye to Edie having a worthwhile story line.

Amen to that- is it really so hard to keep track of writing for 5 characters, but 4 is somehow a breeze? Geez- give this character a break and keep giving her a viable storyline!

I so much want Gaby and Carlos to get back together. Edie is better suited for Victor. They should just swap partners. I am glad Mike and Susan are finally together but I worry that they will now get boring. That happens on soaps all the time. I missed Mrs. McClusky. And where is Julie? As close as she and Susan are, it was weird that she wasn't there. I like Bree, but I don't want her to take over the whole show-again. And Lynettes possible cancer is a great storyline. Unlike a lot of folks, I think it would make a great story if she does have cancer as well as serve as a PSA. I think Tom and Lynette's relationship is one of the few on the show that could survive a cancer storyline and it might also make Tom's daughter not be such a brat to Lynette for a change.

Maybe its just me, but i think the writers are getting "desperate" for story ideas. Seems like every story they introduce is recycled from the first season. I still enjoy watching the show because i still find it funny, but it just seems like the writers are running out of ideas...

What was even funnier for me with the 'I just peed on that, use a coaster' line, is that neither of them seemed concerned about carrying it around in their hands, but Edie's concerned about her table! Too Funny!!!

In the promos for next week, the glimpse we get of Bree, she has a major evil glint in her eye, can't wait to see what that is all about.

I know I've read that Gabby does make it down the aisle, and I've also seen that they do marry, but I'm beginning to wonder if it really happens. Could we be seeing a scene from Will & Grace' when Karen got married and announced at the reception she wanted a divorce? hmmmm

I agree that many of the plot lines seem recycled, if not tired. Too, it's a delicate tightrope to present a silly soap while interspersing serious issues. Sometimes DH is more adroit than at other times.

Bree is pregnant. Even though Marcia Cross did already give birth in real-life, I suspect Bree returns with baby in the oven.

Lynette comes clean, is forthright and earnest about how she honors her marriage vows, why she had to fire the chef/cook and Tom misses the boat and fixates on L's feelings toward the fired chef/cook. As a guy even it was painful to watch. He can be so thick. She's processing the loss and needed time and space. The guy is gone. Whether L 'loved' him or not isn't the central issue. She needs care, love and humor, not the nagging self-centered neediness Tom perpetuates.

For those who saw, the previews revealed virtually the entire finale.

I have to say - over or not, I would also want to know if my significant other had feelings for the person they were obviously flirting with. I'm not sure I would nag them the way Tom did, but he needed to know. And Lynette was obviously shutting him out as the kids even had to ask her if she was mad at him.

No Dave, no teary eyes...but I love Lynette and hope the best for her character. I like both Tom and Lynette and thought the hand holding was pretty sweet.

Susan was a bit ridiculous to be angry at Gabby for taking over her wedding. I guess I see a reason for some of the anger though as she did not just take the date, but the whole darn thing. Susan could not have used the flowers and stuff in a few months after Gabby had. I loved the resolution between the gals and was happy the feud did not drag on for the entire episode.

As for Bree taking up Edie's screen time next week, I think she will have limited use as it was her first week back after having twins (she did have twins, didn't she??). I would be surprised if they demanded a full schedule from her.

Someone else mentioned it, so I thought I would second it -- I too miss Andrew and his sarcastic remarks.

I think the writers missed the boat a little bit. Granted, Bree was gone from the screen, but they could have kept everyone 'up to date' through Andrew, which in turn would have given him more screen time and we would have been able to enjoy his sarcastic commentary. I did wonder why Lynette didn't consider him for manager or assistant manager when it was Andrew that was keeping the place together and the employees in line - in a rather un-Andrew show of maturity.

Speaking as a former bride who had my wedding date stolen from underneath me by a family member (grrr) I found the ultimate revenge was making sure I did everything better than she did - maybe that's another good reason that Susan is holding out. Not sure she can top the $1+ million tiara though.

My husband has the theory that Victor is gay, but I don't agree. I think Victor is going to come out to be a viscious politician with the ability to make every an 'opportunity'. I think that's what attracts Gabby to him- they are very much alike. It's also what she dislikes about him - he's not willing to take the backseat the way Carlos would.

Personally with the return of Bree, the character whose air time I wouldn't mind being reduced would be Susan's. She has been too whiny, too irritating for the past few seasons, and it's time to cut her back a little. Give Edie a chance to shine for a bit too.
