« Degrassi: The Next Generation
Episode Recap: Free Fallin' (Part 1)
Nothing says "Hello Summer!" like a special Thanksgiving episode of Degrassi. Season 7 kicked off last night by planting the seeds for what I'm sure will grow into some pretty intense drama over the next few weeks. It seems freshman year at Banting hasn't met Paige's expectations of college. Apparently Statistics 101 isn't quite as easy as Mr. Simpson's computer class, and it's giving our girl some pretty severe panic attacks. How does Paige escape the stress of college midterms? By paying a visit to her big bro, Dylan, and her best friend, Marco. But really, could a Degrassi Thanksgiving ever be that easy? Besides getting stuck cooking the entire meal, Paige must keep quiet about Dylan and Marco's relationship, figure out if ex-flame Alex has really moved on, and somehow manage to break it to her mother that following in mama's footsteps at Banting isn't going so well. It's a bit much to handle even for alpha-girl Paige, and something tells me her little bonfire in the dorm room is just the beginning of her fall from grace.
Meanwhile, back at good ol' Degrassi High, Peter can't seem to get Darcy off his mind ever since the girl went wild on the Internet. Silly, naive little Darcy actually believes that having Petey brush up on his Bible will get him to shed his bad boy image overnight. I believe the saying goes: Fool me once, shame on you... fool me twice, shame on me. After the incident with the cops and Peter's suspended license, one would hope Darcy would see that he's a lost cause but ya know... it's Degrassi! There needs to be at least a couple rounds of makeups and breakups before this romance gets squashed. I just hope Darcy sticks with her Christian values and doesn't give it up to the smooth-talking rebel. Although classes may be coming to an end at most schools across the country, the semester at Degrassi is getting under way just in time to feed our hunger for high-school drama. Oh Degrassi... how I've missed you. Now if only they could come up with a way to bring JT back from the dead without going all Buffy the Vampire Slayer on us, I'd be a very happy guy!

Great writeup! I nearly cried for Paige when her turkey exploded. Blech. But has Paige always been such a gourmet cook? I'm guessing Paige is going to end up dropping Marketing and going to culinary school.

Of note, this is only the second half of season 6. Season 7 is being flimed right now.

Manda, I was just going to write the same thing.
I'm glad Degrassi's back but I'm hoping we get to see more of Alex and Paige again.
Oh and thank god Marco got better hair! Boys had some serious folical challenges for the last couple seasons. College is doing that boy right. Or is it Dylan that's doing him... nevermind.
I wrote a review of this week's Degrassi over on my blog if anyone's interested.

Yay! A Degrassi blog!
(I confess, I'm almost 30 and I watch Degrassi...I've been watching it since the 80s!)
Paige was just getting healthier, and now it seems that she is going off the deep end again.
I think the show is better when the focus is on the high school kids and not the college ones...I hope there are more scenes for the high school crew soon!

analytichick I was going to write the same thing. I'm almost 30 and this is definite appointment tv for me. I get a bizarre look for some friends whenever I mention Degrassi. Anyway...I finally got a Degrassi fix. I was about to enter rehab for this break. It was so sad to see Alpha-Paige start cracking. But we've all seen this before. It happens to the best. But on a lighter note...this will get Paige back to Toronto!!!! (and Alex's arms *fingers crossed*)

I'm still a DeGrassi purist and have yet to watch the DeGrassi-NG. But, after seeing the level of fanatici...er...passion you all have the show, I might have to put this one on the Season Pass.
I also must admit that I continue to sing Zit Remedy' signature tune whenever the mood strikes:
Everybody wants something They'll never give up...
You all know the rest.
(By the way, I am way over 30.)

this show i feel has gotten far too tedius over the past few seasons. the characters who were so real and authentic before are all boring and overly contrived. and since they killed JT its been near torture to watch it. when shows just kill people for no reason (the O.C for example) it spell trouble.

Hey ladies! I'm 33 and watched the original Degrassi on PBS so I've been addicted too!
I really hope Paige gets back with Alex and goes to Culinary school close by. I noticed the Room For Rent sign in Dylan and Marco's window. Hmmmmmm...
I read that they plan on doing 1/4 of it with the college kids and 3/4 high school. Maybe someday we can have the show split off and get two times the drama! haha

Personally, I'm glad to have more focus on the college kids. Paige has become one of my favorite characters. I felt bad for her this week. It'll be interesting to see what happens after the fire gets put out.

They didn't kill JT for no reason, the actor wanted to leave and he wanted to leave in a big way.
I wrote about this episode in my blog too. Here's the link. http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/Leah/Friday/800017869
