Episode Recap: Don't You Want Me (Part II)

In this week's episode of Degrassi, Paige became gay and there was a pregnancy scare at the high school. No, it wasn't a rerun, but it wasn't anything new either. If I weren't loving the Alex storyline, this blog would be a rant of my annoyances with this season. However, the conclusion of this two-parter put an end to Lextasy (Alex's stripper alter-ego) and what I can only hope is the ultimate end of Emma and Sean.

As soon as Alex put aside her feminist views and got up on the stage, it was only a matter of time before one of her clients propositioned her to take things to the next level. Leave it to some sleazy rich guy coming on to her to give her the wake-up call she needed to finally toss in the G-string and the body glitter. But with all the insanity Alex has gone through recently, the last thing she needed was Paige throwing yet another hissy fit, no matter how valid her points may have been. It's not about you, Paige! It's about keeping food on the table and a roof over your head. And just when things couldn't get worse for Alex, it turns out Mama Nunez used Alex's tips to bail out her deadbeat boyfriend. I was totally with Alex when she decided enough was enough and left the nest for a more stable home environment. I just hope Paige has gotten over those panic attacks.

Moving on...the whole Emma/Sean fiasco completely annoyed me throughout this and last week's episodes. They were planning for a child that they weren't even sure existed. When Emma took the pregnancy test and it came up negative, it didn't convince her. I understand that missing her period freaked her out, but that's when you schedule an appointment with your doctor and hope for the best. Don't start picking out colors for the nursery and force your boyfriend to change his plans for the future before you've gotten accurate confirmation that you have a bun in the oven. Emma is usually so much smarter than that. It was good to see that both Manny and Spike were ready to support her no matter what the second test results brought, but it was a lot better that her "friend" came to town right before she was about to take it. Teen pregnancy was so sophomore and junior year!

The two-parter and this season of Degrassi ended with the Winterfest dance. By the way, what was with there being no mention of this episode actually being the season finale? If it weren't for the teaser for the next season starting in the fall, I would still have no clue that my blogging duties are being put on hold for a while. Nevertheless, I was happy we got a brief update on all the cast members we've been missing over the past few weeks. It looks like Jimmy and Ashley are still together. Liberty and Toby seem to be coping with JT's death pretty well (and it looks like Toby has become Mr. Popular... winning the crown for ice king and all). Even though the second half of this season was a bit of a letdown for me, the writers certainly have me on the edge of my seat waiting to see what's going to happen when the students from Lakehurst start attending Degrassi. See you all in the fall!

Hi Adam:

Although it was great to see the Degrassi High School Students that we all love and have missed, for the most part, I hope that we see much more of them when the new season starts. I thought that it was interesting how they juxtaposed the light-hearted Winter Dance with the Disco Ball and white lights against the seedy strip joint with it's red lights.

I wasn't surprised that Mama Nunez bailed out jail-bird boyfriend with Alex's hard-earned money. Mama's too co-dependent to be a good mother to Alex. I hope that Alex is able to move into the big house with Paige, Ellie and Marco, finish school and go to university. It would be interesting if Alex accepts the intership from Paige's mom. I'm sure Mrs. Michaelchuk (sp) won't be too happy to find out that her second child is gay, also.

I also didn't know that this was the season ender. Thanks for pointing that out. When the Lakehurst students do start attending Degrassi High, it will definitely be a nail-biter. J.T. was well-loved. Toby and Liberty will be directly impacted by this turn of events. J.T.'s girlfriend, I forgot her name, I think it's Mia, will definitely receive the brunt of whatever happens.

I'm up in the air as to whether or not I want to see Emma and Sean back together. I think it's a good idea that Sean wants to do something positive for himself, even if that means that its over for him and Emma.

I'm also struck at how attractive all of the kids are. Sometimes when child actors grow up, they're not as cute. Everyone looks so good, especially Manny.

Thanks, Adam, for the blog.

I am so glad you are doing a blog for Degrassi TNG. Not a lot of people I know watch it. I thought that the second half of season 6 was really poorly done. Everything went downhill after they killed off JT.

I want them to focus on the kids we care about in better storylines. Marco finally got his own ep and it was about a gambling addiction that was cured in that same ep! Weak!

No Jimmy/Ashley/Spinner except in random scenes or as background filler. Criminal!

Manny finally returned after falling off the face of the earth. Giving her that lame Lakehurst beau was terrible. No way would our fiesty Manny fall for such a dud!

Get Paige/Peter/Mia gone! Bring in Liberty and Toby to replace. They are the ones we actually care about!

Fix Emma/Sean fast please! They don't have to be a couple but stop writing them so poorly!

Sorry for the long post, but I have been so frustrated this summer!

Didn't this season already play out? Maybe not on the N but on some other canadian channel, because when I was catching up on episodes before the season started online, I found the rest of season 6 BEFORE it started, then when it did start I was like, "I already watched these!"

But, there will be new eps in the fall right?
