Mannerisms unnecessary

This guy makes me laugh. How often is someone looking at the ground constantly, then as soon as you ask them a question they look up tilting their head ever so slightly, always to the right (his right), then looks up. Every scene with him has him doing this. It is pathetic. I could do a better job acting in my sleep. It annoys me to the degree that not only will I never watch the show again, but other people watching the show in my house I will make them feel ridiculous and uncomfortable. I have been watching television for 50 years, and in all this time I have never witnessed an actor being cast with the same mannerisms in every scene.Check it out and see. If Im right then you have to fly me to hollywood to appear on Jay Leno so I can demonstrate what I'm talking about.

I agree with you. I think Carusos sole purpose in season 5 is it to stand around and stating the obvious which could have course have something to do with his resurfaced drinking problems. I have the impression that he even isn't trying anymore to give a good performance. CSI Miami needs a significant drop in rates - maybe that'll wake Caruso up.

Everybody's a critic (so I'll add my 2 cents). I like Horatio's mannerisms. They are part of his character, everyone has something like this though maybe not as obvious. Kind of reminds me of Goren on L&O Criminal Intent. Anyway, anytime an actor creates something in a character that can be recognized even when parodied somewhere totally out of context, whether you like it or not, he's made the character real.

thank you last poster! SO TRUE. David has indeed created an interesting and 3-d character in Horatio Caine. All too many people don't recognize nuance when they see it, but David is a master of the small details. Give the guy his due - he's GOOD.

Speaking of one-trick ponies, which David is definitely NOT, read some of "horatiolover's" blogs or comments.

A "horatiolover" SHE IS NOT, but her one trick is constant flaming, anywhere and everywhere.

David's mannerisms irritate some and endear others; it's a matter of taste.

I'm a big supporter, but less posturing would be an asset. The head-tilt has been his for years, as has hands-on-hips and duplicate phrasing for emphasis. That's the man, not the character.

Separating which are pure David and which are gimmicks can be fun, too.

It's always an amazement to me how viewers can get so bent over such pettiness. Watch or don't watch.

I agree 100% Who in their right mind even thinks Caruso can act? A paper cutout could do better. I love the entire CSI family but refuse to watch CSI Miami because of Caruso. He's a joke. Someone please wake up at CBS.

What I think is hilarious is that when Horatio Caine interviews a subject he never looks at them. Anyone that is a fan of detective stories knows that the purpose of an interview is to observe how a person responds to difficult questions. But not Horatio Caine - he would rather look at his shoes!

Me too. Caruso is utter ridiculousnes paired with an unsightly face and very limited "talents".
