Horatio Caine, A David Caruso Production

We have maintained a blog on a community board for over 2 months. Rightfully, we feel our blog should be posted here, since most of our posts relate to David Caruso, his character, Horatio Caine, and CSI Miami.
News, yes. However, we're usually the last one to get any news, so don't look here first. If your interests are of a prurient nature, please go elsewhere. You won't find anything to your liking here.

We won't belabor anything tonight. If you're not familiar with our writings, read our other blog. This will be the same. If we decide to remain here, we will cease posting there. Double duty is not our style or in our time budget.

The last posting here reflected on Horatio's mannerisms. We're explained our view; will do so once more.

As the title implies, Horatio Caine is a David Caruso creation. The mannerisms so often critiqued are intentional; they're part of the package. The sunglasses, the stance, the head tilt, the soft spoken, seemingly disconnected speech, the arrogance, the slipping in and out of scenes, even the always in evidence dark suits & striped shirts; all of these and more are deliberate. Does anyone really believe that, at nearly 52, David's hair is STILL that red? Or that he never sweats (silk suits in Miami? Get serious).

As we've also said, ad nauseam, this character will surely outlive CSI Miami and probably David and us.

Some people don't care for the character. We're fairly certain David never entertained any fantasies that the entire world would embrace him or his character; only that David Caruso and Horatio Caine would be remembered.

To that end, he has been immensely successful.

HoCaine and David Caruso may be remembered - yes. If in a positive way largely remains to be seen. HoCaine for his annoying mannerisms. His ridiculous speech patterns. His shrewd view on morals which sometimes border on hypocrisy. His unhealthy attitude towards sexuality and last but not least his overbearing pompous attitude towards those who may have failed in his eyes.

David Caruso - oh, my. To think that David Caruso - a B/C/D-lister who coincidentally landed a job after nearly 10 years of obscurity - should be compared to the highly artificial figure HoCaine is ridiculous at best.
The three times divorcee with the reputation to be very difficult to work with can't be more different from the illusion that was created on TV.

If HoCaine is a production of David Caruso - which is doubtful since the award goes to the writers. Caruso was/is just the tool to put it to live - then I doubt it if it will outlive ANYTHING. After all Caruso has A LOT OF FAILURES under his belt. He stared in a lot of movies that bombed mainly because of him. He even produced a show tha bombed halfway the first season because it was so bad.

However, WHAT will outlive is Caruso's bad reputation. His reputation as mediocre little talented actor with very little range and even less charisma.

Way to go!

Good morning Dojo, hope you had a great long weekend. I hope you will continue to post on the community board as I don't think the message boards always get read. It wasn't until Pat let me know that I even came over here. I agree (unlike the rude poster above) Caruso has made Horatio. The writer give him a script but he is the character creater. It is how Caruso wants the character portrayed with the nuances, stance etc. In the future that is what will be remebered the character not what the writers scripted him to say. I think Caruso has done a great job developing this character over the years and I look forward to how he develops Horatio into a parental role and brings in a whole new set of emotions. I've already notice a softer side to Horatio in the last few episodes where children and young adults are involved.

I daresay, once CSI Miami is history nobody will talk about David Caruso anymore. What people will remember is the artificial figure he portrayed . A figure some love some hate.
But Horatio Caine has nothing to with David Caruso at all. I think the children shtick is annoying and it is solely used to get better ratings.

How ridiculous to say Horatio Caine has nothing to do with David Caruso. Who do you think created Horatio Caine? The writers? Dream on.
Of course Horatio Caine will go down in history as a television character icon. There's no doubt about that. Love or hate have little to do with it.
It seems some of us spend too much time wallowing in that abyss where evil spirits dwell, never seeing the light of day.

Horatio Caine is a creation of Caruso. Right. But he has nothing to do with the person Caruso is off camera. Too huge is the gap between the pompous artificial character and the 3-times-divorcee. It is just a role he plays. Nothing more. What will be remembered is the wooden acting and the ridiculous one-liners.

I can't help but agree that when CSI Miami runs its course, David Caruso will be forgotten. Are any of us still remembering "John Kelly"? Perhaps Caruso will leave the show, they get a new leader, and the show will revive again and go for several more years. He is about the worst actor I have ever watched and he is playing the character the exact same way he played John Kelly. Arrogant, no-it-all, smart guy. The show is good in spite of him, not because of him. There are so many good actors and characters on it they can carry him along.

We're interested in the characters as portrayed on tv or in the movies. An actor's private life is of NO INTEREST OR CONCERN OF MINE.
I certainly don't expect my employers to judge my work by what I do outside the office. Nor should they. Nor should we.

I have to agree. It is just a show. Once the show is gone so will be Caruso.

As for his private life being talked about in public: being a celeb it belongs to the package. Sorry.

Being a celeb belongs to the package

Really? So, if you are a celebrity you are not entitled to any privacy? In essence, the public owns you? Care to elaborate on how you reached that conclusion?

As my extremely wise father always said, "Petty people talk about people", "Brilliant people talk about ideas". (that wasn't original with him, I'm afraid) I prefer to be classed in the latter; apparently some of you prefer the former. I like your ideas, Dojo.

Good words to follow katie lynn, I prefer to acknowledge that over innuendoes any day. As my journalism teacher once said, "The public will believe anything, so long as it not founded on truth."

Some people chose to be in public because the like it when they are talked about. It is a two edged sword and those who are deemded celebs have not only to take the good sides of a job but the bad as well.

Caruso and other celebs. may choose to be in the public eye but they do NOT choose to be STALKED, or HARRASSED. I'm equally sure that Caruso did not choose to have his life threatened. No one deserves to have that happen to them and it is done by a sick, twisted individual, who deserves to be punished.
