David Caruso: Where's Calleigh?

In the first 3 seasons of CSI Miami, the audience felt a certain attachment to the Horatio Caine/Calleigh Duquesne relationship, the mentor/protege closeness that became a hallmark of the series. That palpability has been allowed to lie fallow the past 3 seasons, non-existent for well over a year.

We knew, when we recently addressed this issue on our independent blog, we were fanning the flames. There has been a tremendous response from fans and viewers, all grateful for our bringing it to the fore. Apparently the detractors are also grateful; they've picked up on the theme, as we predicted they would and, true to their obsession, have blamed you. Both Ann Donahue and Emily Procter have attempted to calm the restless natives, without much success. Their less than adequate explanations have fallen on cynical ears.

You, and quite possibly only you, have the power to make the changes necessary to get these characters "back on track". After nearly six years, it's a challenge to stay fresh. We know you're up to it. We know you, Emily Procter and Ann Donahue, et al, are preparing for Season 7, perhaps even beyond. That probability depends in large part on maintaining the continuity that has kept CSI Miami on or near the top during its run.

Over the past seasons, storylines begin, are explored, dropped in favor of newer, hopefully better, plots. Some of these work, others are better forgotten. Through them all runs the thread that comprises the backbone of the show. To deny the existence of that line surpasses the absurd; i.e., the absence of Horatio's support for Calleigh in "Stand Your Ground".
We suggest you acknowledge the impact of your audience, play to the integrity that put you on top. We all look forward to several more years of Horatio, Calleigh and Co. That integrity will make it happen.

Ah, a voice of reason in a sea of slime.

Nice job. This topic needs to be out in the open. Then maybe it will be honestly addressed or, preferrably, they'll respond by restoring the comraderie between the two. Not to be denied, it would SHUT "HER" UP! Well, that's not true, is it? She'll just go on to something else; she bites into whatever bait you provide.

As fans of any show know, you start watching a show for many reasons. and as time progresses, you become comfortable with it. Sometimes, the powers that be, decide to "shake things up". Sometimes, it needs to be done--and most of the times, it doesn't. The reasoning behind it is known to the producers, directors, writers and stars. What you wrote is a reasonable statement of how true fans are appraising the situation. By the way, thanks for not including unsubstantial innuendoes and rumors masked as "opinions".

Thanks, all. We tried not to give a knee-jerk reaction to HeidiHo's little brown piece (she surpassed "yellow" journalism long ago). Good to see our efforts are appreciated.

There's been so much hubbub about this subject, more since the hiatus. I hear Calleigh & Horatio have a couple of scenes coming up but if they're just throwing us a bone, as you said on your other blog, viewers won't buy it. The fans especially are looking for a renewal of their relationship and I, for one, doubt they'll settle for less.
