David Caruso: Terminator Tactics

David Caruso, Ann Donahue, et al. Give it up, PLEASE! Horatio Caine has long since abandoned this earthly realm. The attempt to use Terminator Tactics to elevate Horatio to superhuman status has become preposterous.

We've hesitated to broach this subject, forever hopeful we would see improvement. That doesn't appear to be the direction TPTB are headed. Perhaps the confusion lies in our definition of 'improvement'.

These Tactics, which have been mentioned by every reviewer and nearly every posting viewer over the age of 12 (not in a good way), may work on a large screen, one-shot, big budget movie. They're not quite so effective on series television that's touted as crime and forensics serious drama. David Caruso does not have a cape or a phone booth and, as of this date, is unable to leap tall buildings in a single bound.

We will concede (some gracefully, some reluctantly) the dark clothing which sets you apart from your team; the one liners, sunglasses, staccato.speech, duplicating phrasing, askewed stance, ghostlike disappearing & reappearing, absolute arrogance, hands-free romance and the dedicated focus.

What remains absurd and contrary to the original intent is the virtual disconnection from your team, the insentient attitude toward killing, and the Houdini escape routines in death defying scenes with nary a mark, as evidenced so clearly in the closing moments of "Guerillas In The Mist".
Our only proof that Horatio does, indeed, have red blood flowing in his veins is a small forehead cut, courtesy of an irate evacuee in "Hurricane Anthony" and a hand cut from Stewart Otis in "Body Count".

Perhaps this enforced hiatus is a second chance to appraise the current trend and reset your priorities. Or, if your intent is carved in stone, let your viewers in on the joke. We also need a good laugh.

As most of us know, "Jump the Shark" refers to a single event created solely to increase ratings. Dojo's piece has nothing to do with 'single events', but character developments she was not happy about. Did you even read it?

To me Caruso's ridiculous subpar-acting is definitely "Jump the shark" material. I'm sure I may use the term the way I see fit.

May I suggest you take a short course in the definition of "Jump the Shark"?

As has been said, this blog doesn't have anything to do with "jumping the shark". It is true, though, that David Caruso has been more morose, less caring, out of touch recently. TPTB should be reading this and "appraise the current trend and reset priorities". His only moments of humanity seem to be with Kyle. Maybe that's why I like the Kyle storyline so much.

It doesn't qualify as jump the shark in any way.
The direction Horatio is going is quite unsettling, however.

I don't like the Kyle storyline either - too bland and too much soap-opera.

"The direction Horatio is going is quite unsettling, however."
When I said the above, I wasn't referring to the Kyle storyline. Like most others, I think it's grand. Quite an improvement in Horatio's humanity factor with Kyle.
My reference was in agreement with Dojo; his remoteness from the team, the seemingly cold killing (though justified), the superhero escapes, etc.

What may grand for one appears bland for another one. The writers have to be careful not to turn the father/son saga into something unbelievably cheesy like they did with Aerosol.
HoCaine was at his best seasons 1-3. After that...
