« Dancing with the Stars
dancing-kristy's unfair advantage
It has been obvious since week one that Kristy has fantastic dancing skills. No one starts out that good right off the bat without having major skills already. I thought this show was about non-dancers or those with limited skills to start with working their butts off and showing improvement each week, not someone coming out of the box so polished that it is obvious all the others don't have a chance. It must have been hard to see her incredible dancing prowess right from the first week..... This is not fair, the show's producers need to make darn sure they don't bring in competitors so obviously talented in dancing already. What is the fun in seeing her dance perfectly and get 10's right from the start......kinda boring to know she was at the top of the game at the beginning and surely no surprises every week knowing that she is again going to get 10's every time she dances........Long story short, she was almost perfect going into the competition, which is proof she was not a novice dancer, and the show would fall on it's face if they were all like Kristy. Hope show's producers get it.......we want to see a real competition among novices.....not someone that looks like a pro on day 1. One more thing, Samantha Harris is not good at all at her job......read other message boards, everyone is talking about how irritating and bad she does her job...really shows up next to Tom who is probably the best all around host in the business. Too bad he doesn't have someone quick witted and intelligent enough to bounce one liners off of and have a few laughs with like he did when Drew Lachey filled in for Samantha. Those shows with Drew made it crystal clear a new co-host is needed for this fun and entertaining show. Love the show even bringing out the above flaws.

Does she have unfair advantage because you have seen her dance on other shows or you've seen her ice skating? It's my understanding that she might have a some advantage in the area of showman-ship (after all, so have all the others whether they be an actress, football player, rapper), coordination, etc., but Karina herself said that dancing and ice skating are the not the same things. Trashing Kristi isn't going to make any of the other stars better. Kristi brings a refreshing, wholesome and positive attitude to the show. She and Mark have absolutely great chemistry and respect for each other.
I think the show is interesting because they are on it-otherwise, it would be rather boring. If anyone's a Mark Ballas fan, they should be voting for them because of what happened to him last year with Sabrina.
The couple that really bothers me is Shannon and Derek-good grief, she's supposed to be an actress and the crying every week has gotten old, old, old! Is she trying to get sympathy votes or more attention for her career?Even Marissa responded to her judges comments better than Shannon has. I watched their last performance more than once and the judges' comments were right-she had absolutely no hip action. I think they were saying at this stage of the game she needs to listen to their comments and improve. I think the attention they are getting is not because of their dancing. That's sad. With all that's happening in the world and all the global crises, their crying and ranting was broadcast on CNN! She's 34 and she needs to grow up. Derek needs to remain objective about the judges' comments and they both need to move forward.

Monday night, Carrie Ann compared Marissa's spins to Kristi's. Hello, Kristi can spin like a top, not only was she a champion singles skater she was a champion pairs skater, doing spins and yes, lifts too. She had a definate advantage from day one just as Apollo did. Balance, coordination just being too things she already had at a championship level.

I'm amazed by the hatefest on these boards about Kristi Yamaguchi, the bone-headed ignorance of skating and the assumptions about similarities between ice skating and dancing. What's wrong with you folks? Mario Lopez & Drew had actual dance experience, but I don't see the haters going there. She's done well from the start, so she "obviously" had an unfair advantage? What a load of crap. I am an ice skater. A spin on skates has zero to do with the technique, leg position or footwork needed to spin on a dance floor - graceful gliding on ice is NO help in gliding gracefully in a tango! I've skated a number of years, and skaters don't use their feet the same ways AT ALL. Another note: skaters fall in 2 camps: technical and artistic. Technical skaters are better at jumps and mechanics, artistic skaters at the performance/"dance" aspects. Kristi is legendary in skating as a technical genius. Her artistry only improved as a pro skater. Now, Michelle Kwan or Sasha Cohen, truly artistic skaters, might have an 'advantage" - but greater than Drew or Mario L? Give me a freaking break! I loved the moron who thought pair skating and ice dancing were the same. Kristi was a pair skater, not ice dancer. The only technique there that helps her in DWTS is a bit of partnering and LIFTS - which weren't "legal" til late in the show! Real ice dancers would have a HUGE advantage - they actually tango and waltz on ice. I think you guys are being incredibly petty and unfair. Don't criticize someone so rudely when you have no clue as to what you're talking about.

It was totally unfair this ENTIRE season. Carrie Ann kept saying she wanted a female to win. Kristy win was just as UNFAIR as Kellie's the first season.

Well, now it's time to get over it--she won!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I for one am glad and totally disagreed with most of the comments about her unfair advantage. Her advantages came more in the area of athleticism and how far she could push her body. On the finale, they showed how clumsy she was in high heels, tripping on her feet and Mark's etc., and then overcoming her club feet from birth. Mark pushed her to the limit with his choreography and they did the most difficult of any other contestants. She just seemed to be a natural at the dancing; she worked as hard as anyone on the show each and every week and never had a bad attitude. Her work came more in the area of drama and emotions. She said that several times on the show. She didn't like to show her feelings. Oh well, I'm so glad that she and Mark won. They were absolutely great together.
