November 13, 2006: Take a Picture, It’ll Last Longer

I feel bad saying that this was a mediocre episode after having seen all those pictures at the end of the women on whom this story was based. However, that doesn’t change the facts, as any good CSI knows. Part of the problem was the fact that it was completely unbelievable that the powers that be would allow Natalia to stay on the case, once it was discovered that her sister was involved. If this were any other show, she would have been thrown off the investigation, because such a personal stake in something can color one’s objectivity. On the other hand, we’ve seen Horatio and Delko investigate the murders of loved ones, so I guess that it’s just business as usual at the Miami-Dade PD.

Being from New Jersey, I thought that I would appreciate this episode more than I usually can, considering it began on a turnpike. But just as that first car drove by without paying the toll, I kind of felt robbed on the plot. They actually had DNA evidence for the photographer, but just let him go because he said that the sex was consensual? What kind of investigators are they? I think a refresher course may be in order.

Also, where was the documentary-film crew from last week? I thought they were supposed to be shadowing Ryan, but there was almost no mention of that at all. Maybe it had something to do with this being a Natalia-centered episode, but it seemed like it was going to be a continuing plot point this season. Likewise with Natalia’s ex-husband. If there were ever an episode where he should have shown up, this would have been it.

I’m angling for an Alexx episode. I don’t think we’ve ever had one of those. Plus, it would be a great opportunity for more crazy science facts, for which we were sorely lacking last night. It just seems that this show is taking itself far too seriously this season, and though we’ve had some light moments, they’ve been few and far between. Last night’s episode was a constant downer, almost belonging more to the Law and Order: Special Victims Unit genre. The only cute moment we had last night was where Eva LaRue’s actual sister had a cameo as one of the reporters during the press-conference scene, and I’m willing to bet that that went pretty much unnoticed (unless, of course, you read TV Guide magazine!).

There is a reason that this is the most-watched American show in the rest of the world. Yes, it’s gorgeous to look at, but moreover, it used to be fun. Hammy acting translates into any language, but I miss the great Horatio lines of the past (“Drive-by, Miami style,” and “What we have here is a shark — a human one”). I also miss plots that actually hold together in the end. I’m hoping that they’re just saving the best stuff for sweeps.

I have to say I was a tad bit disappointed in this ep as well but still enjoyed it. I'm just getting into CSI: Miami and I find Horatio to be hysterically funny sometimes yet at the same time I can't wait for him to show up on the screen and save the day. It's nice to have a character who is absolutely dependable and stalworth?? He always does the right thing etc. It's just cool to have a dependable male character that's not shady in any way. As to Natalia working on the case, yes, that did seem absurd. I could hear Grissom's voice in my head 'You can't go ANYWHERE near this case Catherine" "You can't have anything to do with this money, Catherine" etc. So if you were basing it on the original it did seem silly BUT I tend to go with the flow if it means good entertainment. I can suspend belief for a while. I did like the ending when H came up behind the guy. That was cool. Miami usually does come through on the cool factor. I'll probably start buying the DVD sets to enjoy the eps from all the seasons I've missed. I'm still liking this show! H is sexy ( I can't believe I just said that - I feel like I'm cheating on Gil ) LOL

And may I ask, why there is no Without a Trace commentary section? Jack getting attacked with a nail gun?? come on, surely that beats out wife swap for a commentary page??:-D

There used to be a Without a Trace page, but no one ever added comments so it was removed.

Well, they sure went all out on the orange filters in this episode.

This episode was almost completely laughable. Consider the toll booth operators. Pul-leeze! Do they really look like that in Miami? And do they need THREE toll booth operators for what looks like a nearly deserted area?

BoaVista, when seeing the picture, says something like "That's Anya" and then proceeds to make a phone call to Anya without answering her peers regarding who that is. Most people would have said "That's my sister" or "That's Anya, my sister." And what kind of crime scene people allowed her to walk out of that room without pressing her for a specific response on who that was?

Why couldn't they also check the phone records of all the callers to and from her sister's home and cell phone?

What girl goes to meet someone without knowing their NAME like one of the abductees did?

Why would Horatio have a press conference and then start to quiz BoaVista for information?

Why was BoaVista even allowed to set foot in the crime scene or even work the case at all? And why, after Ryan tells her not to touch anything, she picks up the edge of the bedspread? What part of don't touch ANYTHING did she not undertstand?

The acting was horrible.

On a superficial note, glad to see that Emily Proctor seems to have abandoned the botox and seems to have dropped some weight. Yes, she looks much more wrinkly but frankly she looks better because her face - her eyes especially - is so much more expressive.

Still...I won't miss next week. How can one pass up on an hour of such badness?

No one mentions the best line of the night! "My uncle was a safe cracker," Ryan says as he listens to the loud, audible clicks coming from the safe. If it were that easy to crack a safe you wouldn't need one.

The only reason this show has so many viewers is because there isn't much else of any caliber on against it.

First off, I don't read the tv commentary on tvguide.com until I've watched the episode and considering I haven't watched last night's Without a Trace yet, I didn't really appreciate reading on the CSI: Miami commentary about something that happened. Yes, there should be one for Without a Trace, but if you're going to write about spoilers you need to let people know.

Now about CSI: Miami. It was an ok episode. I liked the end when we found out that it was based on real events and I hope that someone watching can identify someone in those pictures. My problem is that I don't like Ryan or Natalia and I'm kinda tired of episodes about them. I agree with you Leah; we are due for an Alexx episode. There's been a couple of sort of Alexx episodes, but nothing totally about her I don't think. I think that Emily Proctor does look great, but I thought she looked great before too. Although, I've noticed that David Caruso has aged since the first season (I watched an episode from season 1 yesterday and then when I watched the new episode my mom and I both noticed that at the same time). I know that throughout the years the makeup on the show has changed (especially for the women), so it's possible that at the begining of the series they just made the actors look younger or something.

All in all, the episode was ok, but I can't wait for next week.

Oh and I live in Florida, used to live in Miami, and I have never seen anyone working at the toll booths on the Turnpike that are dressed like that. Not to mention the fact that the Turnpike doesn't go over a bridge like that, but they do that stuff all the time.

HD tv shows us every pore, zit and nose hair on these actors. They must hate it. Even the makeup shows. No illusions left I guess.
The episode was comedic as usual, except that the subject was based on an ongoing case. No way Natalia works this case!!! I don't like her or Wolfe anyway, but this reinforced it. Horatio is a cartoon, but I've never missed an episode of this show and watch reruns.

I thought the ep was ok, even though there were no hilarious Horatio lines. Did anyone else about get a seizure from the strobe lights at the end? I know they like to do "cool" stuff with camera work and effects, but that was a bit much.

Wow, the only reason I watch the show is b/c I lust after Ryan Wolfe/Jonathan Togo. :)

I have been catching the earlier episodes on A&E and I just found out Delko has 3 sisters. So if Marisol died why did we not see her other family at the funeral? Or did we and I just missed the episode?

I have to agree the writing for this show is really getting crappy. No way in real life would Natalia be allowed to work the case. And yeah when Ryan said don't touch anything and she lifted that bedspread I wanted to slap her. Her character annoys me anyway. I wish her ex would come back and do something to her. I was expecting to see Rob Estes also. I figured he would be in this episode for sure.

I just wish they would balance out the characters better. It is soo frustrating. I like the show but it is getting painful to watch. The last episode I like was the Halloween one w/all the voodoo or whatever.

I can't believe I fell asleep half way through watching this ep. Can anyone tell me what happened at the end? Was Anya saved? Who was the kidnapper? I read this blog to find out what I missed and I'm getting nothing! ?<img border=">

Oh wow, I totally apologize about the spoiler for WAT. I totally hate spoilers for any shows I watch and I especially hate when I find one I wasn't expecting to find without a tag. So sorry. Hopefully you can still enjoy the episode... The nail thing was on the commercial so I didn't really think 'spoiler' but still I'm sorry if I messed it up for you.

And yes the strobe lights bothered me alot. I got a little bit sick to my stomach and had to look away. Plus it looked like David got a bit of fire sparkle stuff right in his eyeball and he didn't even blink. Go H!! Horatio Caine blink?? Never! And yes Anya was OK. The kidnapper was a photographer. The end was the typical Horatio as Hero scenario. He saved Anya and Natalia was very thankful etc.

Thank you, Sonnet53. I fell asleep during last week's CSI-M too. :( I'm going to have to start setting my VCR to tape it anyway even though I'm watching it, just in case. :-p

I also didn't enjoy this episode. This whole season has been disappointing in my opinion. Natalia's storylines are so unnecessary. I don't even like her character. I'll be happy if she goes.
