Natalia In The Spotlight!

CSI Miami's first-run episode last night, "Miami Confidential", started with great expectations: messy murder (aren't they all?), short circuit fire setting off a fully equipped meth lab, Ryan's (Jonathan Togo) fuming tent to print the victim exacerbating the fire, nearly engulfing the victim, Ryan and Alexx (Khandi Alexander).

When we discover the victim, with her meth lab, was a CI (confidential informant) for FBI agent Mike Farallon (Matthew delNegro), several layers are added to the suspense. Remember Mike? He was Natalia's (Eva LaRue) FBI contact in "Chain Reaction", with dirty little secrets warranting a return visit. It's clear from their first meeting that Horatio (David Caruso) doesn't trust Mike and, of course, H's hunches are always right.

We have our usual half dozen suspects; the murder victim was pregnant (by whom?), the sleazy FBI agent, his overly calm wife, the victim's brother (step, we discover), the hip-deep in meth landlord, Jeremy Broyles (Ricky Harris), and the CI the victim replaced.

The episode played out with the usual twists and turns. Valera (Boti Bliss) was upfront in this one; Eric (Adam Rodriguez, Calleigh (Emily Procter), Frank (Rex Linn), Ryan and Horatio were all actively involved. Nicely done, albeit predictable. Natalia was the main game; she does self-recrimination well. That experience in soaps comes in handy.

For those with an interest, this was a "no-black" night for Horatio. Blue on Blue suits (pardon the pun) him.

"Natalia in the spotlight" isn't an inducement for me to watch. But a good episode, anyway. Horatio with instincts in place (and in blue), Valera in prominence, good story, fewer holes (obviously edited showing 12/17 date), Ryan and Alexx in danger. Excellent diversion for an hour. Good job.

So-so episode. Could have been better. HoCaines lament over the dead pregnant woman and the fetus was unnecessary.

Horatio's 'lament', as you but no one else calls it, was COMPLETELY IN CHARACTER.
Great episode, all around. Loved it.

The episode was good by I did have one big problem with the fire:

How can you not realize that there is a meth-lab (capable of producing a pound a week, according to Ryan) in the same room as you are in? My god, they acted surprised when the fire started. Hello - they were in a meth-lab! One other small problem - would you have plugged anything into the socket that already was obviously overloaded? If this show would straighten out these small inconsistancies it would be very good!

"In character" yes - but absolutely unnecessary.

Generally speaking, the idea of series dramas is to develop and maintain character. That would, by definition, include comments and scenes that are "in character".
May we all raise our glasses in a toast to celebrate that you are not a writer or producer/director on any of our favorite dramas.

Development? What development? It is a mere repetition. HoCaine already lamented over an unborn fetus in season 1 (episode "Ashes to Ashes"). It makes him look odd.

Of course, that's what development and creation of a character entails, repetition. Much like a rumor, wouldn't you say?
Yes, he's done it before, in Ashes to Ashes; that was 5 years ago. Not a "lament" we hear every episode, or even every year. Nothing odd about it at all; strictly what would be expected.

I darseay, that always depends on the viewers' preferrences. I think it was very cheesy and annoying. To make a long story short - others may have enjoyed it I didn't.

Apparently so. That's why CSI Miami is in 8th place and not 18th or 28th or 38th place.

Well, position 8 is nothing to be proud off. It is the middle-field. Could be better. There is need for improvement.

"There is need for improvement."

And in these posts. The best improvement to Monday's show would have been to highlight someone else, not Natalia.

I must say, as long as it is not HoCaine EVERYONE is fine by me.

And I much prefer Horatio in the spotlight, especially with Kyle.
