March 19, 2007: Nature’s Clones

Just take a moment and imagine how awesome it would have been had the CBS promos department not totally ruined the twist on this episode? When Beth Selby (aka Leslie Bibb No. 3) showed up 15 minutes before the end, it was less than shocking. Nevertheless, I was thoroughly creeped out.

The whole conceit is kind of disturbing (if not downright unhygienic!): triplets who exchange everything in their lives to the point where they’re really all living one life. You marry one (Ashley), impregnate the next (Beth) and get killed by the last one (Kayla) — all without ever knowing the difference. To Dominic Whitford’s credit, the sisters Ashley, Kayla and Beth did not seem to have any discernible differences in personality, though to be fair, one could argue that Beth seemed the most distinct, in that she seemed to actually care about another human being, and was generally more nervous than the other two. Leslie Bibb did an admirable job portraying all three, even if it didn’t exactly flex her acting chops, while Colin Ferguson (Eureka) pretty much just had to stand there and look ruggedly gorgeous in his underwritten role.

In something that may come as a minor shock to those of you who are regular readers, I actually wish we could have seen more of the B-plot: the psychopathic assistant. That seemed to be introduced and dismissed more quickly than it might have been. On the other hand, had they dwelled, perhaps I’d be criticizing it for being too disjointed an episode.

We’re still seeing Delko recover, which I’m actually appreciating. It seems like we always need someone making mistakes in order to add some extra dramatic element, and though his mistakes aren’t nearly as egregious as, say, Natalia’s were earlier this season, it adds a layer of depth to someone we know to be capable otherwise. Other than that, we didn’t really get much from our team last night.

You may all disagree with me, but all things considered, I enjoyed this episode. Yes, I wish hadn’t known one of the major plot twists going into it, but even knowing that, some parts still shocked me. That opening fall from the balcony onto the ice sculpture was, er, graphic to say the least, as was the plastic-surgery montage. This show certainly put its own distinctive mark on the murderous-siblings story. When was the last time outside of sci-fi that we saw two guest stars play five look-alike characters?

Ah, and how can I forget to mention how much I loved last night’s H-line?
Alexx: “That’s cold-blooded, Horatio.”
Horatio: “It’s as cold... as ice.”

And with that, I leave you until the next new episode, though I’m not totally sure when that is. Stay classy!

I know that I am in the minority here, but I really do not like Delko. I don't know if it is the way Adam Rodriguez is portraying it or if it is the character itself. He is always so self-righteous and egotistical that it makes me nuts. For instance, in this episode, Ryan was just trying to let Delko know that he understood what he was going through with the recovery/getting back to work process, and Delko gives him that nasty, tight-jutting-out lips stare. All I am saying is soften the guy up a little bit. I know that Ryan and Delko aren't exactly best friends, but he did almost die and Ryan is trying to be helpful. Ok, I'm done.

I liked this episode, although I already knew about the triplets from ahem, TVGuide, and fell asleep during the last commercial break and woke up as they were all being led out of the station. I had to smile though when Horatio was smiling at the baby, Noah. :-x

Loved how Delko's "double vision" of the blood spatter gave us an inclination as to the upcoming plot twists. I thought overall last nights epi was really good, however I too thought the assistant's murder to move up was kinda rushed and then hushed.

Sue I agree w/you. I am not really liking Eric and I wish they would put him on medical leave or something. I thought he and Ryan were coming to a comfortable work relationship after Ryan got shot in the eye w/the nail gun especially since it was partly Delko's fault and also they seemed to be getting along in the episode w/all the voodoo(?)

Either way I wish they would do an episode focused on Alexx or Calley or someone besides Horatio, Delko or Natalia.

Other than that I kinda did like the episide. The 2 husbands shocked the poo outta me. And I agree w/Leah, if they hadn't blown the whole triplets thing in the promo's it would have really rocked the episode.

Hey wasn't the guy who played the assistant once the host for ET for MTV? Ryan something? Any one?

Well, I must be a total dummy because I thought the triplets were actually triplet actresses. Duh.

I don't mind Eric. He's always been played very subdued. And I believe the reaction was just defensive. He knows he's not right, but he's not ready to acknowledge it - so he lashes out. I don't need any help, leave me alone. I just don't think those 2 guys will ever be buddies. Definately not a Warrick/Stokes friendship. Delko's been "caught" making mistakes and it's probably starting to scare him. One minute you are good at what you do and the next, you are making rookie mistakes and being caught. Not easy.

Well the cleavage is back. Nothing like leaning forward on the table with your arms close to your body when interrogating some guy!! I'm surprised they could keep their eyes straight ahead!

Found it!! The actor who played the assistant, Josh Brockner is the guy from MTV on ET, Ryan Devlin. He also did some Veronica Mars episodes.

MOanbo, you are not alone! i thought there were 3 actresses as well.

overall enjoyed the ep---i needed me some new csi miami----but several things bugged me. mostly the whole ice sculpture thing. so i've already proven i am no threat to stephen hawking's career, but that ice tower just didnt seem thick enough to actually impale a body? i think it would have broken, and the thickest part would have MAYBE pierced his clothes and possibly a little skin, but he didnt fall very fall.

i agree, more calley. she's a great character, great actress, and my favorite TV name!

I, too, just thought Delko was being defensive, and scared. Another mistake, that he hadn't realized and caught for himself? Thought his reaction was perfectly understandable.

As for the triplets, I'm a bit disappointed that TV Guide posted the plot swing, because I think I would have enjoyed it more if I were discovering this at the same time the cast was. Granted, I like hearing a "bit" about what's going to be happening on a show, but to give away the main plot ahead of time is like having someone tell you about the ending of a murder mystery while you've only read half of the book. Spoils it.

Inspite all that, I enjoyed the show, as I generally do (love the Miami landscape scenes), and I laugh more now at H's stops, turns, glasses on and off, sideways glances, penetrating stares, and wonder whether the overacting is completely intentional. By now it must be, but was it at the beginning? I wonder, but pure camp, and absolute enjoyment!!

Oh wait, two other thoughts ... I didn't think the ice sculpture piercing was that far fetched. Just thought as I watched it what are the odds of a body falling just right that it would penetrate someone's chest and produce such a gory scene. Thought it was inspired! AND was completely thrown by the fact the guy was a double. Nice twist, and glad TVG didn't give that one away.

As far as the assistant? It came from left field. Felt it was completely thrown in as an afterthought - like maybe they had to fill some time in the show - and it struck me as completely unlikely and annoying because if I'd looked away for one second I wouldn't have even gotten that part of the show. But then maybe it's true, if they did enlarge his role we'd be wondering why. I preferred thinking he was the culprit and finding he wasn't, but maybe that was the spin, finding he didn't kill his boss (or his boss' double) but he HAD killed someone else. That was probably the intended plot line, but me thinks it fell flat!!

Liked the episode and the twists but puh-lease can we relegate Boa Constricta back to the Lab?! Her character just does not work as the "heavy" in the interrogation room and I thought the "I do my job, I do my job well" was laughable given how unprofessional she looked.

Last night on Two-and-a Half Men - Kandi, who was auditioning for a TV part did a hilarious parody of CSI - complete with cleavage, forensic speech, the famous Horatio Caine eyeglass removal, and even a great one-liner! She was dealing with a stabbing victom and when asked if she could tell who did it said " I'll take a stab at it". Very funny

Is it me or is this the only one of the CSI shows where the lead CSI doesn't do any lab work. Horatio is more cop than CSI. Mac (CSI:NY) and Grissom both do a lot of lab work.

Also, is there something wrong with Callie's arms. Ok, this may be dumb but, it's Miami, south Florida, and she is always seen in either a lab coat, blazer, or sometimes even a sweater while others go short sleeves or even sleeveless. I still like them all. Last night was intriguing but would have been more shocking if the previews didn't already show the triplet twist.

Two words: Spoilers Suck.

They ruin everything. I was thinking the same thing. How cool would it have been if we didn't know about the triplet? Of course, those glory days of not knowing the outcome of a show (think Colonel Blake dying on Mash) are OVER. Too sad.

I liked this episode alot though I too found Boa a bit annoying. I'd have rather seen H interrogate the trips. But then again I'd like to see Grissom in every frame of CSI and that simply can't happen. Call me greedy. I liked the fact that the trips were duped by the husband and his look alike. That was awesome though I felt bad for the little boy (Noah) who now has no Mother. I also didn't fully understand why H gave us one of those queer little smiles at the end. What was so amusing? LOL
