January 8, 2007: When the Shoe’s on the Other Foot
And so we say goodbye to deliciously creepy Nick Townsend. He is survived by his ex-wife, Natalia Boa Vista, who had him put in jail. His apartment had been described as “Grand Central Station, with women coming in and out,” but he had many other redeeming characteristics as well, such as stealing and stalking. Upon further consideration, he had no redeeming characteristics whatsoever, except that he was just basically awesome. I, for one, will miss him and his alter ego, Rob Estes. Thus ends the obituary of Mr. Townsend. You knew that in the end he was either going to go to jail or be killed, but I was always of the opinion that the CSIs on this show needed a more serious nemesis, and he seemed like a good one. I suppose that over the rest of the season it’ll be the terrorists, but still, I’ll always have a soft spot for this guy.
Also, we got an introduction to the bizarro-CSI: Miamians, aka the night shift. Of course, if we aren’t counting Jake, there seemed to be only two of them, which struck me as odd. Maybe we’re getting set up for a spin-off of a spin-off, CSI: Miami: Night Shift. In fact, I kind of want a flak jacket with that on it. Johnny Whitworth’s Jake Berkeley was doing his best to step into Horatio’s shoes, with some good lines (“Spoken like the last request of a guilty man” and “The evidence trumps your confession”) and a new, very twitchy mode of presenting himself, but a second-rate Horatio isn’t even as good as a first-rate Ryan, so leave me my Caruso-isms, please.
It was kind of neat how the Benjamin Rhodes and the Townsend murders were tied together; for those of you who missed the ending, Jeff Murdock killed Nick because Nick had the last remaining piece of evidence that connected his wife to the murder of Rhodes, because Nick always stole from crime scenes, so it wasn’t just the standard A and B plotlines. It was a particularly nice surprise to see Sharon Leal as Lauren Sloan, considering I spent most of my day listening to the Dreamgirls soundtrack, on which I got to hear her sing (she played Michelle), plus I was a fan of her character on Boston Public.
We must address, though, what this means for madams Boa Vista and Valera. Should we be concerned that both of them thought that Valera had killed Nick and neither of them came forward until kind of late in the game? At the very least, one of them could have called 911. As neither of them was guilty of the crime in the end, I guess no disciplinary action will be taken, but (at least to me) it still feels like something needs to happen. I suppose we'll have to wait and see.
So let's take the time to mourn a great and sinister character, one who managed to spout the best quote of the night: “What’s the matter, Eric? Test tube too small?”

I was so disappointed in this episode. I was hoping Natalia would be guilty and they would finally write her character off the show.

I didn't think it was possible for the acting to get worse on this show. Sadly, I was wrong. The scenes between Horatio and the ME are simply painful. If she calls another 40 yr old "baby boy", I might be forced to violence.

I enjoy this show, but I have one gripe. The character of Ryan is written so inconsistantly. One day he is a nice guy the next day he is a jerk and so forth.
Also, I can not stand that actor playing "Jake". He makes me want to turn off the show.

Noooooo Not Nick But dangit I am going to miss Nick. Not even Natalia could resist the evil charms of Nick. Everytime I saw Rob Estes name in the credits a part of me screamed Yea. I was also really hoping Natalia was guilty, she just seems to get more annoying each week. For the first time this season Horatio stayed on my good side. It was Eric and Ryan that I wanted to slap up beside the head or knock their heads together I cant decide which. Ryan talking all bullish to the clean up guy and Eric starting a fight in the lab, and then acting all "day shift rules and night shift drools" to the other team. I am just dumbfounded by the professionalism. How much thought do you think actually went into this epi. The whole show just seemed rushed, but maybe it was just me wondering when it was going to be over. Yipee back to terrorists.

This entire show is becoming annoying, with too many characters and no development, and too many "second chances" for some of them who get "personally involved" as HC would say. Lets get some real plots and some better development, I can watch better shows elsewhere (like Bones for example) and free space on my recorder. Sorry, I have been a fan in the past but this YEAR is sorry.

Frankly, my favorite show with Rob Estes was Silk Stalkings. Now that was just plain fun with good looking folks to boot.

I agree with Debgal episode should have been two parter. One minute Natalia is warning coworker about ex next minute she's confessing to sleeping with him (and stalking him)? Among other things the episode was wrapped up too quickly.

They should have kept Nick and gotten rid of Boa Vista.
She finally shows that she owns clothes in a color other than orange. What a shock. Now she needs to get rid of the obvious push up bra.
The alternative universe CSIs were odd.
I am so tired of Boa Vista, maybe this means we'll see less of her in future episodes.

Ewww....did you see the scene between Horatio & Boa Vista at the end of this episode. I'm telling you Horatio and Boa Vista are headed straight for the bedroom. I don't know WHEN it will happen - just THAT IT WILL HAPPEN.

Darn it Horatiolover. I was really trying to ignore that moment. I second that EEEWWWWW sentiment.

Actually horatiolover I thought the scene was funny because it looked like he really didn't want to touch her. He made no move (that I can recall) to physically console her when she put her head on his shoulder.

I liked this Jake guy at first. Thought he'd be cute w/ Caleigh. Then, the more I heard him talk, the less I liked him and I couldn't figure out why. Last night listening to him, I figured it out. He sounds like Christian Slater!!! Kinda creepy. And I too was glad to see Sharon on here. I've been a fan of hers since she was on Guiding Light.

Well, if you recall the HoCaine & Marisol thing - he didn't touch her either AND THEY GOT MARRIED - so Natalia putting her head on his shoulders is A BOLD MOVE - don't you think?

Actually after rewatching the ending I believe he didn't touch her because he was too busy playing with his sunglasses. Or he was too busy playing with his sunglasses so he would not have to touch her (which is how I prefer to view it).
