February 5, 2007: I’m Gonna Be Fine

Please look at the title of this entry. If you are a police officer and you’ve been shot, you are never, ever, ever, ever to say this. Ever. Even though Delko's getting shot was the worst kept secret on tvguide.com, I certainly wasn’t expecting it to be anything like it was. Dare I say, CSI: Miami is giving us suspense again? When he got shot in the leg, I figured that was it. And then he just had to go and say, “I’m gonna be fine.” Horatio didn’t even have any sunglasses to fiddle with. He just had to stand there and actually emote. It was a watershed moment in the history of this show.

I have to admit that when the first Clavo episode aired, I was definitely more concerned with passing my physics-for-poets science requirement, and so while I vaguely remember it, it doesn’t have quite the same resonance for me as it may have for others. I like the character, though. He’s very over-the-top and so obviously evil that he almost makes up for the loss of Nick Townsend. (Was that really only two episodes ago? It feels like it’s been an eternity.) The flashback sequences where he talked about how it was awesome to watch a woman die gave me shivers that were unrelated to the bitter cold enveloping much of the U.S. Plus, he’s the only one that can really take on Horatio. Who didn’t cheer him on just a little bit when he said, “Lieutenant Caine: the master of the obvious”? He’s like a Bond nemesis in the amount of planning he puts into his schemes. He arranged a massive gun theft in order to get a rocket launcher which allowed him to blow up the exact courtroom in which he was being arraigned. And he managed to get a million dollars wired to Horatio’s bank account, take a hostage and get Delko shot (twice!). I’m beyond excited that we’ll have him back next week, as he seems to be the infusion of life that this show desperately needed.

I was also impressed with the subplot concerning the little boy getting shot accidentally by his brother. It certainly seemed more plausible than many of the other crimes this season, as the brother really had no idea what he was doing when he shot through the wall. It would have been more effective, however, had Ryan not been gnawing the scenery. Fighting back tears is not a good look on him, nor does it seem very fitting with his character. He’s dealt with worse cases than this, and never got too emotionally involved, so this rang a little hollow. I’ve given up on where the documentary-maker went. That story seems to have just disappeared.

Overall, probably the strongest episode this season, and I wish there were more for me to say about it. But considering this is a two-parter, much has been left unresolved, so there’s only so much to talk about. I’m really looking forward to next week’s episode, which promises to be the emotional show that I thought was coming with that bomb-on-the-beach monstrosity. Delko’s life is in the balance, and I think I speak for all of us when I pray that they let him live. I’m still not over the loss of Speed (Marisol, eh...), I can’t bear to lose Delko as well. If he isn’t going to survive, at least we get another episode with him next week. When he was lying on the ground at the end of this one, I really thought he was dead.

Keep your fingers crossed, and take with you this little nugget of medical knowledge, courtesy of the other “master of the obvious,” Alexx, and her “medical degree”: “This one has blood coming out of his ears. It might be internal bleeding.”

Despite having many incredible, unbelievable plot moments, this was probably the best, most exciting episode of CSI-M in a looonnng time. Yes, I think everyone knew Delko was going to be shot, but I also figured that the shot in the leg was it and I was cursing the show for making such a big deal out of it. Then...well, needless to say I was shocked. I am pulling for Delko, because if he dies I won't be able to keep count any more of how many times Horatio says Eric's name in each episode, or won't be able to make fun out of Horatio's over-annunciation of his name ("EriKK", with that over-obvious K sound at the end).

Still, the show had its normal laughing points - the "master of the obvious" being one. And maybe it's just me, but why couldn't they tell RIGHT AWAY that the mark on that truck was from a manhole cover? Talk about obvious.

Still, this show is great and each week I find myself relaly enjoying David Caruso. Now that's scary.

I also have still not gotten over Speed's death and if they kill Delko then I might have to stop watching. If only because I hate every new character they bring in (Wolf, Boa Vista). Like everyone else, I knew that Delko was going to get shot and I thought that the leg was it. It's really very upsetting. It was a good episode though and it feels like forever since a new episode had been on. Can't wait for next week.

Holy Cat Jack.........I too figured out that Delko was "the one" but, I had no idea the emotions I would have when I saw it. I am with the rest of ya, I could handle the "shot in the leg" but, then to get shot again!!?? DID NOT see that one coming. I was a freakin bawlin mess. Maybe because my 25 year old son could pass for Delko's TWIN!!! Maybe that is why it hit me so hard?? Am TOTALLY looking forward to Part 2 and hope the the character is NOT killed off. Wonderful episode.

As Adam Rodriguez [Delko] is the main reason I watch this show, I will be severly disappointed if he's killed off.
The "captain of the obvious" comment had me in stitches. Good thing I was DVRing the ep so I could rewind and laugh again and again.
David Caruso as Horatio is part of one of my fave drinking games. A group of friends and me each take one of his OTT quirks [adjusting his glasses, pausing midsentence, looking down at an angle when trying to get a confession, et al] and everytime he does one of those things, whoever has that quirk takes a drink. Whoever has drank the most gets the $25 pot and gets to pick first the following week. I always pick his saying Eric's name. Great fun!
Can't wait for next week's ep. I want my $25!!

I didn't mind this episode except for one thing: Two policemen were taking a whole truckload of guns somewhere,UNESCORTED, to be melted or destroyed? And yet the guns were still LOADED? That would've been fun when they melted them.

They need to have someone from the Delko family come visit Horatio, saying something like, "Both my children are around you and they both get shot around you, and all you can do is stand there with your head cocked funny and your hands on your hips? Don't start messing with your stupid sunglasses, you redheaded weirdo. Why does Homeland Security trust you when you can't even keep my kids from being shot? Why? WHY?"

To which H looks to the right, and slowly replies, "Ma'am, calm down. I promise you... we'll get him." [takes hands off hips, puts sunglasses on again, cut to aerial shot of Miami.]

Shot? Somebody got shot??? I guess I missed it, as I was still mesmerized by Caleigh's look last night (Captain Jack Sparrow called, and he wants his boots back).

I enjoyed this epi very much. The story line is very compelling and I thought the acting was very well done. It caused a great emotional response in me that I had not felt for a while. I still miss Speedle and I hope Erik does not have the same fate.
I had only one major problem with this epi. Why in the hell would they transport loaded weapons to the smelting factory. DUH heat and ammo would be an explosive combination. Anybody with half a brain would know that the police depts remove all ammo from the weapons before they go into storage. But here we are driving in a truck with thousands of loaded weapons.
Other than that and the total waste of space that Natalia took up in this epi(not a fan)I really liked this epi alot. I cant wait till next week.

I also have to jump on the "Please don't kill off Delko" bandwagon. I am also another one that has not gotten over the death of Speed. My 12 year old daughter and I came running from opposite ends of the house yelling "Nooooo, they can't kill him off." Needless to say my mother, who happened to be at my house at the time, was looking at us like we were totally nuts.

I've got news for you Leah, or maybe it won't be, but every secret is ill-kept on TV Guide.com and in the mag itself! Especially that Ausiello report that lets you know what's going to happen 3 seasons before it happens. Since I hate spoilers, I hate that fact. Now on to the show. I too was shocked that Delko got shot again and he certainly looked dead and very realistically and upsettingly DEAD! H's softly spoken "Eric?" was sad and I really hope he lives. I can't see them killing him off but you just don't know these days. He was shot in the NECK so it's not looking good. Well at least he won't have to pay off the debt to that stupid woman who sued him if he does die... but he better not! The show would just not be the same without Eric and H catching the bad guys and male bonding every week.

Not only does MDPD have an incompetant crime lab, but they must be the worst major PD in the country. First "Dispo Day", and now they send a load of (loaded!) guns to the smelter with nothing but two Red Shirts™ to guard it. No police escort or backup. And no special security for the rocket launcher! I don't know much about rocket launchers, but I'm guessing they take some kind of special ammo (possibly called "rockets") that you can't buy in Wal-Mart, even with a fake ID. So I guess it must have been loaded when they put it in the truck. Brilliant!

Maybe, instead of wasting money on Hummers, they should buy a super duper saw or compactor to make the guns unusable before they try to ship them somewhere.

aiming your anti-tank missile towards the front of the courtroom near where your crime boss would be standing during his arraignment,

Yeah, they were banking on
1) the missile not killing Clavo, and
2) the missle disabling the bailiff enough for Clavo to get his gun, and
3) the courthouse not burning down/collapsing and killing everybody inside. Oh, I almost forgot, Miami also has the worst courthouse security in the USA. And until they look at the videotapes, they don't even notice the hostage is missing!

I think Ho should have said, "Screw the hostage, I'll kill Clavo for 'resisting arrest' and keep the million dollars!"

Did the tracer device on the money have a FLASHING RED LIGHT??? Are they planning on tracking it with a spy satellite?

If I knew female cops would be dressing this way, I would have never taken an early retirement from my local PD......

i also loved the ep. delko is the biggest reason i watch the show, so if he's dead i will get to bed one hour earlier monday nights!

quite a few implausible things: the loaded guns, the whole missile into the courthouse that was so perfectly spelled out above, looking for "a mercedes" in an at-least 4-floor parking garage in just 5 minutes.

but what really bugged me, and distracted me, was how horatio went into a bank, and within 2 minutes had withdrawn ONE MILLION dollars that had been put into his account very recently! even if he did flash his badge, the bank is not gonna give up a million bucks so easily!

DONT KILL DELKO, some of us will stop watching----not that it matters much considering the numbers of people who must be watching if it's the number one show in the world!

also, if he is dead, hire a NEW casting person, i cant stand the new people either. they are so blah and boring, they dont have the quirky charisma to keep up with H, callie, alexx... and it's gonna be hard to replace the foxyness that is delko!!! that smile---yum!
