February 12, 2007: I Will. Kill You. Clavo.
This past week I stayed away from all the spoilers I came across so that I could give you my honest reaction to however Delko’s situation played out — not an easy task for me, as I pretty much live for spoilers. What is my honest reaction, you ask? What the frak?! Frakity frak frak. Not to sound callous or anything here, but wouldn’t it have just been kinder to kill this guy off? Yes, we have a very much alive Delko, but one who also has significant memory loss (the go-to plot device for dramas this season). And here I was preparing another one of my snappy obituaries. I’m sorry that Delko can’t remember his sister is dead, but perhaps someone could kindly point out that her spitting image is working as an ADA up in Manhattan. It might help ease the pain. It’s too early to know how this is going to play out over the rest of the season, or even the rest of the series. And in the near future, I may be talking about what a brilliant move this was on behalf of the writers, but forgive me for feeling a little ripped off at the moment. And just as an aside, how is it not a conflict of interest for the entire team to work on Eric’s case?
Of course, I do get to mourn one character: Clavo. I will miss him and his back-and-forth with Horatio. Some great lines of his: • “You know what, my friend? You are a serious player. You could learn something from this man, pop. He never gives up, and I love that about you, Caine.” • “Lieutenant Caine — now my parade has officially been rained on.” • “Yet another startling revelation on the obvious.”
Who can blame him for having a major beef with Horatio? H made one of Clavo’s fathers disown him, and then he made the other one disown him. That takes some skill. Clavo's got his own failings, though. Cathy Gibson (played by Jennifer Hall) wasn’t a very good fake hostage. But to be fair to her, Clavo certainly didn’t make things easy, what with dumping her on the beach and all. It’s still better than the unfortunate fate her über-crazy Monica Wilder suffered on Nip/Tuck (you know, that other Miami-set drama).
Where the whole blood diamond plot came in, I’m still not sure, but I renew my objection to CSI: Miami’s strange obsession with being an issues-centered show as of late. This was almost two episodes in one, and for me, the Clavo half worked much better, mostly because it didn’t take itself too seriously. Plus, the more serious stuff tends to invite me to explore plot holes — something I’d really rather not do.
I suppose I’ll be thinking for a while about the aftermath of this episode. This could be just the shot in the arm CSI: Miami needs in order allow for some character development. What are your thoughts on Eric’s fate? Are you interested to see how this affects the team? Just glad he’s still alive? Wish it had been Horatio instead?
Until next week, as always, friends.

I did not want them to kill Delko, but I'm feeling like that would've been better than what's going on right now. But, we will just have to see how it plays out for the rest of the season or whatever. Although, it is unusual for them to call time of death and then continue to try to revive him. I will miss Clavo also and I totally knew that it was the security guard that shot Delko. Well, we'll see what happens next week...

I thought Dexter was "that other Miami-set drama."

All I can say is I went 'phew...!' then it hit me... there is something worse than losing someone to death, it's losing the someone you knew and loved when they are there but not 'there.' I knew someone who went into surgery and came out without their faculties and it was very freaky and sad. I do not know where this is heading as I am not a spoiler person either but I think it has potential. However, knowing CSI:M he'll have his memory back soon enough. I mean how much of his memory is gone? Can he still do CSI stuff and did anyone else get the feeling that somewhere inside Eric knew Marisol was dead because he was crying when he asked for her? I don't know. But I was thoroughly relieved Eric was not dead! It was odd how Clavo and H seemed to have some sort of 'relationship' even though they were enemies. Clavo was really evil though, he killed that girl and enjoyed it so I think he got what he deserved. Again, very glad Eric is not dead and I hope he regains his memory soon.

And how many Delko children have to die or face death before the parents MAKE it on screen??
On another note: Why don't they let H where GREEN anymore. It's always blue. I like him in Green.

This has the potential for some interesting episodes. IF the writers are allowed to really delve into the subject.
Bullet still in the brain -- does that mean no more scuba diving - water pressure and all? Wouldn't that be bad - I'm not a medical person - so that's just a guess.
I really hope there are some lingering effects. His speech doesn't seem slurred (one crossed off of Alex's list of things). Maybe some slow motor skills.
Of course, next sweeps that little bullet that's still lodged can start to wander around - makes for a great cliffie.
I hope they don't sugar coat this and have Delko up and running prints next week.

This has got to be the worse epi to date. I am glad that Delko didn't die. I had myself convinced I was going to have a Speedle flashback. But come on the writing for this epi was horrible. to begin with: I'm convinced that EMS sucks in Miami. I definately dont want their paramedics working on me or a family member. They are doing CPR on Delko but the only oxygen he is receiving is through a nasal cannula. No secure airway at all. You can pump on the chest all you want, but if there is no oxygen its not going to do a bit of good. Second they are shocking a heart that is flatlined. That doesn't work in the real world. Third when the Dr went to inject his heart with the epinephrine he jumped up off the cot before the needle even pierced the skin. It doesn't quite work that way. Plus when he jumped up that needle would have gone way deeper then it was suppose to, or broke off.
Enough of the fake medical drama on to the rest of the story.
None of the bad guys on this show ever wash their hands. Or watch crime dramas on TV. That gunshot residue just stays there forever. I busted out laughing when either Calleigh or Ryan said "We tested the wrong hand". Duh it just seems logical to test both hands at the same time. I now understand that Horatio cannot hit a moving target. He can blow up a semi but a man running he misses. I guess the dodge and weave move actually works. Totally believable. Maybe he is farsighted or something.
What was up with Hor and Nat whispering in the hallway. Top secret info sharing. Go to an office or something. I think it was just a ploy to get both their faces on the screen at the same time.
The whole blood diamonds story was not really needed, and actually I found quite boring. I think it was thrown in there to distract the viewer from the other crappy storyline. I wanted to slap Ryan up beside the head. If he would have said "you shot my partner/friend" to one more suspect I was going to go shoot him. They really need to hire some adult writers for this show. Now WTF??? was up with the ending. Clavo has a gun, Horatio has a gun, the 20 or so cops in the parking lot have guns, but only Hor man gets to shoot and do his best "Dirty Harry" imitation at the same time. I kept waiting for him to say "DO you feel lucku punk" He should have gone down in a hail of gunfire, but then Horatio would not have been the hero.
I wish they would not have killed Clavo. I enjoyed the exchanges between him and Horatio. Plus they could have used him again next year for sweeps. He could have come back to antagonize the brain damaged Delko. I'm sure Delko will be back to work next week as if nothing happened. Maybe he will have minor headaches or double vision. This whole epi just left me feeling really ripped off and let down. I hope this is not a taste of things to come.

Before watching last night's epi I pressed the INFO button on my remote and was surprised to read "one of the team members dies..." so I was very confused when Delko survived. It will be interesting to see how they play this out. I like his character and the actor so I didn't want him to die, but that might have been a better move, plot-wise.

Since when is Wolfe a friend of Eric's. He's tried to sabotage him at every turn in previous shows. It should have been Wolfe that got hit, but then I wouldn't have cared. I'm afraid all reality will be cast aside to keep Delco in the show. bummer.

Glad Delco is still with us. If anyone needs to die it should be Wolfe. What a joke of an actor. He's been with the show for a while now and is still a horrible actor...so unbelivable! I love this show but he is just so out of place there...I wish he would just go away!

This kind of story clarifies for me what's wrong with this show (other than the Marble Sculpture of Ludicrousness that they call Horatio), and that is the fact that both Delko and Wolfe are jerks. When you have a show full of beautiful people, certain dramatic "slots" need to be filled. At least one of the beautiful, sexy women needs to be hard on the outside (but soft on the inside), and at least one of the young cute guys needs to be sensitive and vulnerable. Not weak or pathetic (and not necessarily gay, though it doesn't hurt), but the nonstop macho crap we have on CSI:Miami is a turnoff.
Maybe this story could be a way forward.

This show really pissed me off (if I can say that!). I tuned in waiting and HATING to see Delko die - everything we'd seen led up to that. And having him flatline for 11 minutes and have the nurse say they'll give him 5 more then call it? HUH? Isn't a person REAL DEAD in that time, especially brain dead? And not just with the losses that Delco suffered. Did the doctor just try to keep him alive because she kept looking at H's face? Come on, get real, this was all too much to handle. And seeing how he came out of it was even worse - as most people said - I think I would rather have just seen him die because I'm wondering how they're going to work this thing now and how Delco would like living the way he'd have to. I wondered at the tears too - broke my heart - and having the diamonds and all that stuff just made for a really disjointed show. Think I should have put on a pair of sunglasses and sat this one out!

THAT's where I have seen the court stenographer before, on Nip/Tuck! Thanks Leah, that was driving me nuts. All I knew is that I didn't feel sympathetic toward her character when she got rescued and I couldn't figure out why I felt that way. I was feeling the freaky Monica Wilder vibes.
I'm kinda sad to see Clavo go. While his CSI-M character was that of a nefarious villian, the actor who plays him is hot. That's the teenager in me typing that. As for Delko, while I'm happy he wasn't killed off, I was also sad that he isn't himself. Though, I agree, this twist could be good for future story telling. And lets not forget, he still has some projectile left floating around in his head. They only surgically removed part of it. I wonder how that will play out.
The blood diamond story was part of Clavo's story. While it wasn't really clear to me because I had started dozing off on the couch, I think he had the uncut diamonds before he was sent to prison and was laundering them for cash (the $1M that was transferred through H's bank account) after his prison break. The whole child-labor diamond cutter sub-plot I could have lived without.

This was worse the episode yet!
What was that last scene between H and Clavo for? I thought this was Miami not the Wild West. It made no sense. Clavo came to the police station so that H could shoot him? Come on, he plans this elaborate escape only for H to shoot him? Pleeasee. And what were the African Children for. I swear I could hear Annie's It's a Hard Luck Life playing in the background.
I thought Eric was going to die too. I'm glad that they didn't totally punk out and let him be alright. Hopefully they'll continue this storyline for a while.

I have to agree that was the worst one yet. They really could have made a great dramatic story come from the whole Delko thing but they didn't. I almost forgot all about him with everything else going on. I think they had too much going on in one show. The whole blood diamond thing and the Trevy guy was just to confusing.
Also, did anyone else wonder why Boa Vista didn't put on gloves when she got to the court reporter's car? She just reached in there and started picking things up and kept putting her hands on the car. I also didn't see an ambulance for the court reporter and where was the team to process that crime scene. They were so focused on things that didn't even fit tonight to focus on the details.
Another thing, that scene with Boa Vista and that DNA girl over the microscope/diamond seemed like one of the deleted scenes at the end of a DVD. It served no purpose whatsoever and should have been cut. I try really hard but I can't like either one of them.
I know it would be better TV if Delko didn't recover all the way or just recovered slowly, but if you have ever seen a friend or family member go through a brain injury it is kind of tough to take. The two people I know that went through this will never be the same and I really hope that isn't the case with Delko. I really love his character.
